Bigstock.com / Re: How are you doing at BigStock?
« on: September 05, 2009, 13:11 »
Larry ~ Thanks for your time and for looking over my BigStock portfolio.  I will definitely heed your advice.  I have some more residential home photos I can upload.  I'll see if I can do better on the crop to include more of the landscaping.

As for the pet photos, I would like to dispel the misnomer surrounding these type of photos, actually they DO sell quite well on my other Microstock Sites. In fact, with only 30 images in my portfolio on Istock I sold an extended license on a dog photo, just as one example.   (Trust me, I wouldn't have so many shots if they weren't selling somewhere  ;)).  I guess BigStock is just not the place for them.

Thanks for your honesty and constructive criticism.  I will try and put my nose to the grindstone and upload more images.  Its just been hard to get motivated because it seems like a lot of work for little reward so far.  BUT... I plan to hang in there. ;D

Thanks Again!

Thanks everyone for your valuable information and comments.  SS has been my best seller. In fact, I reached a payout for the first time last month. I was hopeful as my portfolio continues to grow so will my sales.  This gives me even more inspiration. :-*

Question about Shutterstock:

1. I'm curious if at Shutterstock old images continue to sell -or- is it just the newer ones?

2. Does anyone know how the search engine works there?

3. If a picture has lots of downloads will it be positioned higher in the search engine or favored over images with less downloads?

@Larry~

I am very impressed with your ability to sell your photos at Bigstock.  I've just struggled there.  I have over 100 images there, but only have earned $6.50 over the past year.  I'm very frustrated with myself and ability to sell photos there.

Could you take a peak at my portfolio and maybe give me some insight as to where I'm going wrong with Bigstock?

I'd really appreciate it much.  Its so hard to be motivated to upload pictures there when week after week I check my account and no sales!  :(

Is Bigstock a site where you must constantly continue to upload files to get old files looked at?

Hi Larry~

I disagree with the above poster.  I believe you are mistaken.  I have uploaded 3 or 4 luxury homes there and HAVE NOT had to have a property release.  These are single family homes, taken from a golf course.

My canstock link below somehow doesn't show all my images. I've provided this direct link so you can see the photos I'm speaking of:

https://www.canstockphoto.com/portfolio.php

PS: I would LOVE for you to sign up and get referal $$ ;D I need all the help I can get! :-)  Please just click on my "see my portfolio at Canstock" link in my signature ~ THANKS!

Well, the upload process is really nice.  I enjoy how they have the "series" editor.  The portfolio view both old and new are great.  I hadn't seen any sales there with my first batch, so I didn't upload for a few months, then I sent a second batch and have had 4 sales.  I think I'm going to try to upload more consistantly there.

One thing for sure is, they are sure beating my sales a BigStock, which RARELY come!

32
I am very familiar with SS and its "Feed the Beast" mentality.  I upload 1-3 pictures each time a batch gets reviewed.  SS is a site I CONSTANTLY upload too.  As long as I do this, the sales come through.

IS is completely different, I don't get many files approved there.  I think my portfolio has a total of around 48 files total, but I KEEP getting sales regardless of if I'm getting new material up there or not ~ it still ceases to amaze me, this crazy phenomenon.

Ok my question is, what type of site is 123RF - is it more similair to IS or SS in the way a contributor needs to build a portfolio there.

So far I have less than 50 photos.  I've made about $5.00 in sales, they come far and few between though.  Should I try and upload more regularly, does this give me an advantage on this site? or should I attempt to dump a large batches less frequently?

I just can't seem to sell many photos on BigStock.  I have about 100 files and have earned a whopping $6.50 so far.  Its been a very frustrating site for me!  I've even tried uploading batches of 10 every couple of weeks for exposure and still its just one big BUST for me!

Portfolio Size: A meager 26 images - but still building (lots of rejections)

Image Views: Only 1 image has 2 views - the rest 0 (lots of keyword issues with SV transfer)

Sales: None yet - but hoping to see one soon.

Veer / Veer: Portfolio Size, Sales, Views, & Keywording
« on: August 02, 2009, 14:02 »
Hi Everyone,

Now that Veer has been up and running live for a short time, I was wondering how everyone was doing?

Overall:  I'm a bit frustrated with the images that transfered from SnapVillage.  These images don't have the correct keywords set. They are missing very important words which would be relevant to the image.  For example many of my dog photos & horse photos don't even have "dog" or "horse" as a keyword.  When is this going to be corrected?

Questions:

1.  What is the size of your Portfolio on Veer?

2.  Are your images getting views?

3.  How many sales hae you had so far?

Veer / Re: Veer - a big waste of time
« on: July 16, 2009, 20:30 »
My experience with VEER so far is they are EXTREMELY pickey!  They seem to have ONLY very specific images which they feel are suitable for stock.  Not something I consider a big deal, but it is frustrating because I haven't been able to build up my portfolio as quickly as I would have hoped.

In addition, they made me "Fix" one of my images for keywords - TWICE ~ then proceeded to reject it.  What a waste of time that was! Wouldn't it have been better to just reject it in the beginning?  The rejection was for "Pixel quality issue (noise, compression or resizing artifacts) " ~ something I'm getting on quite a few images.  I'm not believing it at all because the same images have been accepted to very particular sites whose reviewers I respect and trust more so than the ones from VEER.

I'm trying to keep a positive attitude and give VEER the benefit of the doubt though, because they are new and are striving to be different.

37
Thanks!  I'm going to try it may be just what I was lookin' for. :)

I take some landscape photos, a lot of horse pictures and tons of DOGS!  I have seen the most sales from Fotolia (especially for dogs and horses), but they only accept about 25% of my submitted images. FT seems to prefer West Coast images of the United States.   I've also had success with Dreamstime, Shutterstock and Istock (definitely have more rejected than accepted at Istock - but the dogs and horses accepted DO sell).

Bigstock for me has been a DISSMAL failure with animal shots and landscapes (I've had plenty accepted -just no sales).  For small companies I've sold a handful at 123rf, only a very small portfolio there though (less than 50).

Overall, my acceptance ratios are about 50%.  I've been active since Aug. 2008 and I've made roughly $200.  My biggest portfolio is on DT with 169 images, my smallest is at Istock which is less than 25.

Hope this helps.

Adding Galleries

1.  First and foremost you must have a Gallery already created on FT
2.  If you don't have any Galleries on FT - nothing will show up.
3.  If you DO have Galleries on FT go to the My Galleries Tab and they should already be there.

Need help creating a FT Gallery let me know and I will post instructions, right now the FT sight appears to be down, so I can't give a detailed explanation at this time.

Sorry about not getting back to everyone, I was working a 12hr shift.  Anyways, it seems like most of the folks using this self promotion tool are less than impressed.  For me, it didn't take very long to set up my pages and it was pretty simple.  I'm planning on finding ways to direct people to my webpage, maybe a link on my flickr account (not that tons of buyers come that venue, but some have), maybe add it to my blogs, etc.

As for those of you who can't seem to get any files to show up:

1. Got to "Team Back Office"
2. You should see all of your files in your FT portfolio there
3. Go over to the pull down menu (the default is public) and switch to "on home page"
4. You also can leave the default as "public" if you like.
5. Lastly, and the most important part, click "Apply Changes" which is at the very bottom of the page.

Hope this helps....

GoldenAngel~

I stumbled on it by complete accident.  I was searching the forums for a totally different reason when I found a link to this self promotion tool.  When I looked into it in more depth, my interest was piqued and I set up my account, I mean why not?  It seemed pretty cool.

Then, I wondered how many others may NOT know about this unique self promotion tool.  So, I decided to post something here and see if I'm the only one in the dark... lol  ;D

Adobe Stock / Myfotolia.com ~ Is Anyone Using This????
« on: June 25, 2009, 00:04 »
Hi just wondering if anyone is using Myfotolia.com to promote your FT portfolio.  I guess you can link it to some kind of google stats.  If you are using it:

1. Are people looking at your site?
2. Have you seen an increase in traffic to your FT portfolio
3. What do your google stats look like?
4. Do you recommend setting it up?
5  And of course.... has it increased your sales?

I just recently set mine up http://my.fotolia.com/sgcallaway1994

Let me know what you think, maybe I can mark you as a friend...

Here's the link to set yours up too, if your interested: http://my.fotolia.com/Home

Pennywise, look carefully at the photos and you will see a blue link which says "more" double click on this and it will give you the rejection reason.  Its very subtle and you would miss it if you weren't looking for it.

How disappointing....

I guess no one (from VEER) is going to respond to my above rejection issue , I will have to accept that my review wasn't bad, it just is what it is.  I won't be questioning any further reviews either.  I just thought there was a possiblility of a problem, but I guess not.  However, I do find it VERY frustrating to have images denied for reasons which don't make any sense.  I-Stock would NEVER approve an image if their was a pixel or artifact issues, they are just too STRICT!  If VEER doesn't want my images because they don't fit into their "collection" or big picture, I'd much rather have them say, this isn't the type of image we need right now.  It would be far less frustating and confusing for someone like me who is still learning.

Adobe Stock / Re: fotolia acceptance / rejections criteria
« on: June 22, 2009, 12:35 »
Yes, Fotolia rejects most of my images (I think my acceptance ratio there is less than 35%).....

BUT...

1. The low acceptance ratio doesn't negatively impact me in the search engine or in any other way. :D

2. Acceptance of my images gives me a good gage for if it will be accepted at other agencies, thus I like to upload to FT first.

3. FT has a fairly quick review process (usually less than 36 hours)

My Experience with What FT Accepts:

1. Unique Landscapes  (West Coast landscapes have done well for me)

2.  Any image with a well executed shallow depth of field (especially those with an object in strong focus in the foreground and then some type of related object or people blurred in the background)

3.  Just FYI my portfolio is mostly a collection of animals (strong focus on dog & horse photography).  So, I don't believe they won't accept anything but people images. - I've had surprisingly good success, especially with my horse portraits.)

Slowly but surely I'm gaining sales at FT, its definitely not my highest preforming portfolio, but its a strong 3rd place.

*** This was not my application submission, I was pre-approved for VEER ***

 >:( Brian~

I think I may have received a questionable review.  All my images were rejected for the SAME reason..." Pixel quality issue (noise, compression or resizing artifacts) ".  Why I believe something went wrong is because each image was not related to the other.  They are ALL from separate photo shoots (with the exception of 1).  In addition, ALL of these images have been approved on other sites, many of which have an EXTREMELY tough review process.  Could someone please look into this.... here are just a few examples.

Hi Everyone,

I received my password and account login information.  So far I've been able to go through the upload process without issue.  However, I noticed I have a limit of submitting 100 photos.  My question are:

1. How was this limit established?

2.  What happens when I have submitted over 100 images?

3.  Is this limit per day or per month or per?

4.  Will this limit change?

Thanks!

I have been uploading images to SS for about 4 months now, but I haven't stumbled upon a way to see how many views my images are getting (or not getting).  Is there a way to see these statistics?  I think it would be important to see now that the search engine has changed.

Also, is there any way to see how many downloads OTHER members photos have?  I haven't discovered a way to find out this information either.

~Thanks!

Shutterstock is definitely worth the time, I think it took me at least 3 or maybe even 4x's before they accepted me, but they have been my #1 money maker and #1 in sales after I was finally accepted.  I also get the bulk majority of my new images accepted too!   :) ;D
