FTP footage processing not working.

Funny, as the contact page isn't working but the rest of the site works...

I always failed sending 4K video via FTP :(
I stopped uploading 4K ProRes files as the previews are not encoded properly. Instead you see strange artifacts at the first few frames.
I think you'll find the problem is because you encoded on a PC.

It is not possible to encode a 'true' ProRes on a PC.

I researched this for several weeks trying to upload ProRes to Getty. FFMPEG etc. are a problem. Although you may have limited success with very small files (less than 1GB).

I ended up getting a used MAC on ebay and have not had a problem since. Purchase 'Compressor' from the Apple Store ($49) and batch process all your files.

This is not really true. I use LRTimelapse on a PC and I get huge, perfectly fine, 4K ProRes files (>8GB, ~40s) when I encode the sequence at Ultrahigh quality.

Yes you can create great ProRes clips with FFMpeg and LRTimelapse and they will look and playback great. However, they will not contain the correct Apple header information. This can only be added by a MAC.

Have you tried uploading your ProRes to the Getty ESP system? - You will get an error.
I don't upload video to iStock, anymore. Their commission is an insult.

You might be right about the header, however my PC created ProRes clips are fine for Shutterstock.

I don't upload to iStock but I do upload to Getty. It took a considerable effort getting the ProRes correct.

The last I heard on the Getty forum was that someone had written a script that could rewrite the FFMpeg header info to the ProRes clip correctly. Basically tricking systems into thinking it was produced on a MAC.
I'm using FFMpeg to render the ProRes clips on my PC and I only have issues with Fotolia's preview generator.

Maybe even the full resolution files are ok but no point in showcasing a broken preview... So I send them Photo-JPG movs.

Some agencies (not IS/Getty) confirmed to me that PC rendered ProRes files are no problem. And since I have no plans to upload any footage to iStock I stay with my system.

Same thing here.Someone reported that his 2160p prores clips are displaying properly, but mine are not, so i upload as mjpeg both 2160p and 2304p.Same applies for 1080p prores clips so it's not the resolution
The only thing left to ask since support hasn't got the slightest idea about how their site works is, are your prores clips encoded on a windows or on an apple machine?
Out of curiosity: Are you rendering the clips on a Mac or PC? Mine are rendered on a PC.

Just realised that if they start selling 4K footage for $100, at 20% royalty, that makes $20 for us.

$20 for 4K video!!!

You can actually see the number of downloads by each video and the best selling aerial video has been downloaded 7 times in 6 years!!! Go to page 2 and you already see 0 sales on all videos. I can probably sell more aerials through my grandma :D
All I see is that they charge $50 for 4K videos. Search for "4K" and select footage on the left. The videos have a 4K icon. Click on one and you see $50 for the "HD" option which has a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. Go figure.

Yes, exactly. I upload both 4K and HD and merge the clips so they show up in the search results as one clip but the buyer can chose between the HD and 4K option.

Obviously you are able to price them differently.

Apparently it's a secret because I've asked for render settings for h.264 export before (Premiere or AE) and nobody responded.

I try again now, if anyone would like to share their settings? I understand that file size of Photo-JPG is not favorable but for the life of me I cannot achieve artifact-free renderings of my CG clips (TIFF sequences) with h.264.

Photo-JPG is as easy as can be using 95% quality and every single frame is tack sharp without any artifacts.

Kindly note that I'm talking about 3D renders and not large gradient ares such as skies etc.

I've been toying around with ProRes on PC but Fotolia seems to have encoding issues (at least for the preview) and it's propably not the preferred way for (buyers/editors to use PC encoded ProRes copmpared to Mac generated files?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not a footage buyer but I see quite a few clips heavily color graded when uploaded to the agencies. As you can also see in the SS trending video reel as well.
http://www.shutterstock.com/en/trends/

While it mostly fits into this reel I wonder if it is not limiting the sellers, as heavily graded clips cannot be easily re-adjusted to every film maker's/editor's needs.

Wouldn't it make more sense to upload neutrally, proper white balanced footage so that the buyers can add their look themselves (which might vary greatly from the color graded clips in the library).?

Your thoughts.

I've seen such tropical beach videos on youtube that are from 5, 10 minutes up to an hour or more ready to be licensed.

Stuff like that. Usually you can find all the necessary details in the video description.

Videohive's royalty rates have always been insulting. It's absolutely beyond me how anyone can justify to upload footage to them.

114
Can someone please explain how the same company can justify sales ranging from a few cents to hundreds of dollars for the same content?

If I understand correctly Rights Ready means Rights Managed? What kind of usage justifies a license comission of 4 cents?

That's the only match then.  The others must be from someone else.
As long as those 2 match it doesn't matter if the rest is from him/her or someone else.

The "We miss you" email is intended to get you to buy a package while receiving a 50% discount.

No sale for almost 2 years now.

General - Stock Video / Re: Nimia's New Pricing Model
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:08 »
I'm quite irritated about the pricing options:

Low Res: ≤ 852x480
High Res: ≥ 1280x720

Naturally, this seems to mean that a buyer who wants a 4K clip will be selecting the High Res version. So anything from 720 to 4K will be the same price?

That means 4K will be sold at price points starting at $79 !

Hmmm...

118
Slightly OT, since you guys are obviously uploading Prores, which agencies are actually selling those clips without conversion?

Pond5, Shutterstock, Videoblocks.
Ah, ok. Thanks :)

You mean downconvertion?
I only know of nimia offering 4K clips without bothering to downconvert.
Sorry, that's not what I meant.

I wanted to know which agency is selling the file without re-compressing it. I mean the original uploaded file.

In the case of Fotolia I understand that any compression type will be converted into h.264 as the file format for sale.

So if you upload Prores (regardless of resolution), which agencies sell the actual Prores file?

If so, makes me wonder why Adobe would have even approved of this venture then.

122
I've already written to Shutterstock asking them about the current situation or plans on changing this system.

I urge everyone who is annoyed to send an email to SS to let them know that there is a number of contributors who experience questionable sales as the one mentioned above or if you don't believe this to be a good system the way it is now.

If they don't get (enough) feedback about it - they definitely won't change anything.

Hi all -first message from a newly registered member, but longtime lurker on this forum!

Today I got 8 consecutive downloads of the same picture (subscription price). I have been selling on SS for almost two years and never had this happen before. What is it, what does it mean?

Thanks!
It's possible that the image got selected for a featured lightbox and now it has bigger exposure. Also, it might have been used in a newsletter to a certain group of buyers who might be interested in that topic.

I've recently uploaded couple of hundreds aerials to SS. All but one were in 4K. I had to downsize one video due to technical problems. I've just had my first sale and it was THE one video uploaded in HD! The batch contained similar videos in 4K which in my opinion looked better. Why would the customer pick the only HD video? This raises suspicion that the customer filtered out 4K versions, possibly unknowingly.

The way SS filter works is really really bad for 4k producers. I'm puzzled. I really don't want to upload HD versions and duplicate my content. But we might be losing out on sales... bummer.  >:(
That is sad to hear although it's impossible to know for sure what exactly the reason was for the HD sale.

It simply makes no sense whatsoever to not include the HD versions of 4K clips into the HD filtered results (which provide even better image quality as native HD).

Just the lower resolutions should be filtered out - not the better ones.

...But the thing is that if they want to be an agency that prices like the rest then they should at least ban the 25gb upload limit.
If you want volume and low prices you cant expect people to pay you to upload more than 25gb at a time.
As long as I understand your statement correctly, the 25GB quota applies ONLY if you are not publishing the clips to the marketplace (e.g direct licensing).

I've uploaded far more than 25GB and never paid anything.

Im talking about the multi-agency.There is a  25 gb limit for every batch of uploads (until they ger reviewed where it resets again) which is the reason i have struggled for months to upload 150 clips there only.My 4K clips are 2-4 gb each.
If you want to upload more in one batch you will have to pay a feee for storage.

So If multi-agency prices go from 140 tο 79 for hd (and we dont know about 4K which is 240 for commercial and 300 for editorial) then i guess it would be fair to not expect people to pay for storage.
Unless they dont want clips to get uploaded at their place.
For an agency that hasn't sold anything in 3 months asking a fee to hasten the upload process is a bit too much
OK, now I understand what you mean. It happened only once to me that I couldn't upload anymore due to that limit. The pending clips got reviewed the next day and I could continue.

I put my uploads on hold now anyway due to the price change especially not knowing how much 4K will be priced...
