Shutterstock.com / SS sales world map "discrepancies" ?
« on: November 18, 2015, 08:25 »
So far I was under the impression that all images and footage clips that popped up on my sales map eventually show up on my sales report.

Sometimes, footage shows up on the map and with a delay, of up to one hour I would say, the sale was registered in my report.

Does it happen to anyone that sales show up on the map but not in the report at all?

Just wondering before I send off a message to support.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Getty's new $100m debt
« on: November 10, 2015, 13:08 »
Getty is just trying to find ways to survive but do not know how.. Which is sad because I work exclusively with them >_>

It looks like macro stock is about to disappear but I cannot see the future in microstock either..
So Microstockers claim the current model is unsustainable and Macrostockers appear to believe that macro will disappear.

Most likely neither will happen but it is just the sheer oversupply of imagary in both market segments that dilute individual contributors' earnings.

In order to increase the effectiveness of this takedown, please also consider emailing/contacting Shutterstock directly if any of you have been affected.

Shutterstock has a little more financial muscle (than me at least) to get this sorted. At least it involves Shutterstock directly since those punks use the Shutterstock logo and trying to copy the whole web site to look like the original Shutterstock.com.

I'm sure Shutterstock will not let this pass without trying anything.

I found less than 100 of my files there. Already trying to dig through the webhosts legal stuff.

Will post more if I get additional info.

BTW, my WHOIS research for their name server of parsihost.com leads me to the host: http://www.radcom.ir

Wouldn't Canva have a much more civilized option to achieve their goal rather than kicking people/images out of their company?

I'm thinking of implementing a search algorithm that factors together the content quality, initial quality rating and time online to simply let successful older files slowly sink down the search results to be replaced by higher quality content that has been recently approved?

I thought SS kind of has a way to solve this issue.

I remember DT didn't change their algorithm for several years (at the beginning) which meant that successful files from the early days ALWAYS showed up on the top of the search results. Eventually they understood that newer (and better quality) content needs to be presented to customers (also to mix up their search results anyway) and so the former successful sellers slowly sunk down.

156
Sorry for being late but this requires a lot more than just a bucket of popcorn...

Anywho, let the discussion begin :D

157
It happened in the past and I just noticed that when I submitted a couple files that the setting for "Free Section" was set to yes again although it used to be "No" by default.

I never set it to yes so it couldn't be a saved setting form a previous file submission.

Just watch out for that - if you care.

VideoHive / Re: Faster VideoHive Upload Workflow?
« on: August 31, 2015, 02:50 »
Apologies for the OT question but who is making serious money with Videohive's low prices/commission rates plus all the additional work that one has to do to get content online?

159
I can only repeat, if Resimstock comes back online with the same site, I recommend that affected artists should also contact (DMCA claim) the domain registrar "name.com" as well.

Name.com is located in the US and if they see any chance that someone could make a copyright claim against them for knowingly supporting that company should lead to quick actions as well.

160
Is it the same hosting?

Looks like some other hosting and "site under constuction".

Yes they have changed their hosting company as the updated WHOIS information shows:

Do we have someone here who speaks Turkish? I used Google translate to check for Natro.com's copyright terms but couldn't find any.

Probably they picked a web host who doesn't care about copyright. They most likely won't make this "mistake" twice.

161
In previous instances where images of mine were offered for sale on a website (or otherwise used to make money without the appropraite license) the web host shut down the site after one DMCA complaint that I made.

I think KTOOLS can show some support for artists when clearly a company is ripping off contributors with rather large sums making some good money through extortion.

Did anybody send a copy of these documents to KTOOLS so they can verify the accusations? This may accelerate the closure of the account.

162
Still, everyone who has been affected will have to keep watching that URL as that company will change (or have to change) their web hosts.

So their domain name will redirect you to the new web host and the game may start all over again.

Therefore, if KTOOLS shuts them down AND your images appear again under that domain name In a few days/weeks then send a DMCA claim to both the new webhost AND the registrar of that domain name (name.com).

If the domain registrar is also aware that their client is abusing the domain name, they might shut down the domain name as well for copyright infringement (which is explicitly forbidden by the TOS of name.com).

163
This is Jon from Ktools.net. This was brought to my attention today. This person is using our PhotoStore product to run a site that seems to be hosting photos that are infringing on copyrights of others. I have given them until tomorrow to remove these photos or I will shut the site and hosting account down. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Awesome! That's what I thought, that they actually host these images on the KTOOLS servers which is insanely stupid actually as KTOOLS would never knowingly allow that!!!

Great for stepping up and taking action!

164
Their name servers say "KTOOLS.NET" - technically their site should be hosted there (Rockford, MI 49341).

If so, wouldn't it take only one DMCA request to KTOOLS to remove their entire site?

Usually, American web hosts don't take DMCA claims lightly due to the fear of getting sued.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I couldn't find any of my content there so I would have also sent a claim.

Otherwise the registrar should be able to provide the information where the domain is pointing to. Even the registrar (name.com) is located in the US.
Perhaps one can even submit a claim to them as the unlicensed content is displayed under a URL registered through them.

Nikon has the worst customer service in the industry. For that reason alone I would stick with Canon.
I'm shooting with Canon now but in the past I once burnt out a Nikon external flash unit and mailed it in to their Service Center a couple weeks AFTER the warranty expired.
I swiftly received the fixed unit without a bill. So, the experiences with their customer service may vary.

I was always wondering how that works. How can "other" people upload songs of famous artists to Youtube and get away with that?

I once filmed a university graduation and when I wanted to publish it, Youtube refused it because during the closing ceremony they played a famous song in the background.

So I have no clue how all these different versions of famous songs were even possible to be uploaded to Youtube in the first place?

Does anyone know how this is possible?

matter of fact, i was recently listening to hard to find old tunes and guess what, i found 99% of them on Youtube, often with very good quality and i also found bootlegs and video from the same artists that i've never heard of .. all stuff that is probably not even on sale

I call a PR stunt of Apple using Taylor Swift as "bait". Apple just needs to create more of a stir for their new service and a little guerilla marketing won't hurt them either.

If Apple cannot pay artist for a trial period then who can? And to assume that world class artists would take it silently is ignorant. Apple may be ruthless but not stupid.

Symbiostock / Re: Problems with purchases
« on: June 05, 2015, 15:32 »
Finally, I finished my website: http://www.toonstyle.com/ - it was complete renovation: new custom Wordpress theme, Woocommerce plugin, re-uploading of all content. Critique and comments are truly appreciated!

Great work. I think many would appreciate if you could start a separate thread listing all the plugins (watermarking etc.) you used.

Good luck!

The Graph Paper Press looks good enough.

What I'm really interested in is the connection to the Amazon S3 cloud storage.

Does anyone already use S3?

It's a mystery to me how many top photographs are uploaded to 500px without any watermark at all. I don't understand the intention behind that from the photographers.

apparently you have to pay to get a site hosted on their servers.  ::)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Video Istock submissions
« on: April 14, 2015, 13:55 »
So I started and I'm here again. I made my first ESP submission of a butch of videos. They were accepted and  now (one week passed ) looking for a search (new) the thumbnails and the enlarged view at the file page no working, no view. I mailed reporting but no answer yet. Some experience?
I submitted a test video in 720p mid January and it is still pending. I have no idea how long their review queue is but since their footage pricing is so terrible I'm not even upset that the video is not online with them yet...
