Sounds more like Pond5 was rejecting everything he/she was uploading. I may be wrong though.

I cannot believe that they still exist. After they didn't change their landing page for roughly 4 years, I decided to drop them... That was 3 years ago. LOL.  ::)

... Fotolia don;t accept Photo JPEG for some reason.. unless they do and I'm missing something. ...
That is incorrect.

Fotolia does accept Quicktime mov files with Photo-Jpeg compression. Have been uploading that format for years.

Only for quality and editing reasons I have switched to ProRes recently and Fotolia seems to be processing them fine now (PC generated files).

79
Thanks for that. You learn something new every day! I'm assuming you'll still need to have the Quicktime codecs though?...
No you don't. I've uninstalled Quicktime and rendered ProRes successfully afterwards.

80
I'm curious how you output your files in ProRes if you're on Windows? Is there some software that converts it? And... if there is, surely you still need the Quicktime codecs for it to work?

I don't know why I can change the price of some photos.  Maybe it has to do with how many sales the photo has made and my contributor level based on past sales.  I change XS price to 3.  That automatically changes the X price to 90, but you can set at 100 if you want.

XS price [1-3] X price [90-100]
So you must be either at the Saphire+ ranking or offer partial or fully exclusive files to able to set your base price at 3 credits.

It has nothing to do with how many downloads you had per photo it's the total that counts: https://www.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors/Royalties

82
Leave it installed, and just don't run it, if you need the codecs.  It says you actually have to load a malicious page that runs it for it to do anything.
Thanks for your input but I decided to remove it. I only used the Quicktime formats for stock footage clips and since I have not received one rejection for the ProRes versions of my clips I don't need Quicktime anymore.

Quicktime often gets installed together with iTunes and if Apple decides not to update Quicktime anymore knowing that there are holes in the code it will be a popular target for attacks whichever way they might be executed.

I understand that this may be just one of many programs on my computer which has vulnerabilities but since I don't need it anymore it's a no brainer.

83
I just read about the end of updates for Apple's Quicktime on PC leaving doors open to any new found holes the code may have.

On a German news web site they urge all PC users to uninstall Quicktime (since players like VLC can handle most files perfectly fine anyway) unless you definitely need it for video production.

If I understand correctly, an export of Photo-JPG or h.264 requires Quicktime installed on a PC right?

So what do you guys do? Apple did not comment on this question yet...

VideoBlocks / What's the current review time at Videoblocks?
« on: April 01, 2016, 15:23 »
I have stuff sitting in the queue for six weeks now.

How long has it been for you lately?

85
Considering the current review times it looks like that they are getting so much more content than last year that obviously it is diluting our sales.

86
Is anyone already uploading 2 versions of a clip (one graded/one neutral)?

I thought this is a big NoNo uploading "duplicates" and risking warnings or account closure due to violating submitters terms...?!?

Off Topic / Re: OMG America!!!
« on: March 16, 2016, 05:56 »
Looking at the presidential race with a European perspective but also having experienced a couple of elections while living in the US I think that Trump has one simple advantage over most of his competitors (both Republican or Democrat):

He has no background in politics and he speaks his mind.

No matter how crazy his ideas are, he just speaks the way he feels and it looks genuine and authentic. Something the other candidates do not show!!!

Ever since I somewhat followed the presidential elections in the US I felt like all candidates are not "real". They didn't look, talk and present themselves as a natural person rather than something that their advisors tell them to be.

Political correctness gone mad if you will. Always being careful what to say. Trying not offend anyone (which obviously is impossible).

Trump on the other hand loves to offend, to be difficult and nasty. He surely f$%&ed up many businesses and pi$$ed off many people on the way but still he managed to build a little empire. He is definitely not an economical loser.

Anyhow, IMO as long as there is no other candidate standing up like a genuine, authentic person who also says things that not everybody likes, this may be a big wake up call for America.

I'm not saying that Trump would be a good president but so far it shows that he is doing something right.
Do you really think trump is genuine?  Even his hair is made up :)  He gets angry and walks away whenever someone makes allegations about his business deals.  An honest genuine person could admit to past mistakes but politicians can't do that, so I think Donald Trump is just another politician.  He isn't PC but he has his own way to not answer questions or to make the person asking an awkward question look stupid.  He is so verbally abusive to anyone that seriously questions him, how can anyone think that makes him genuine?
That is just my feeling. Your experience may vary. Any half-brained person would not vote for someone that suggests building a wall to Mexico etc. - that being another issue, how it's possible that so many Americans still support someone who makes such claims.

THAT, is something America has to worry about. We experience a similar issue in Germany with AfD (strong right party). They do not have a proper politcal plan but still they manage to mobilize people to go vote.

Such "politicians" also understand how to make people vote who haven't been voting for years. This is all stuff Trump is doing right.

Again, I'm not claiming he is a good politician or president. But it baffles me that all other candidates and the media is acting all surprised about his success when obviously previously elected politicians failed to understand how to address those people that now vote for Trump.

Anyway, this will be an endless discussion. I'm not in the US anymore so I will just get my popcorn and watch the show.

...I don't know why they wouldn't want the free advertising and exposure in stock photos?
Perhaps because some of the stock photos may be of low quality and would hurt the brand? Maybe their product appears in some context they don't agree with? Also, they completely lose the overview of images that contain their product.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - Keyword Ordering on Upload
« on: March 04, 2016, 12:15 »
I believe this discussion is not resulting in conclusive results as everyone's portfolio (and size) is different.

Therefore the base line is already skewed.

Now, mixing this with the fact that some people order the keywords while others don't + plus the quality, niche and quantity that needs to be taken into consideration leads to an infinity of findings.

Just my 2 cents.

General Stock Discussion / Re: New Pond5 and Membership Program

Slightly OT, do I see that correctly that I can download my own videos 3 times each for free?

There is a link for the free download on the preview page for each video.

Can anybody double check that?

I always failed sending 4K video via FTP :(
I stopped uploading 4K ProRes files as the previews are not encoded properly. Instead you see strange artifacts at the first few frames.
I think you'll find the problem is because you encoded on a PC.

It is not possible to encode a 'true' ProRes on a PC.

I researched this for several weeks trying to upload ProRes to Getty. FFMPEG etc. are a problem. Although you may have limited success with very small files (less than 1GB).

I ended up getting a used MAC on ebay and have not had a problem since. Purchase 'Compressor' from the Apple Store ($49) and batch process all your files.

This is not really true. I use LRTimelapse on a PC and I get huge, perfectly fine, 4K ProRes files (>8GB, ~40s) when I encode the sequence at Ultrahigh quality.

Yes you can create great ProRes clips with FFMpeg and LRTimelapse and they will look and playback great. However, they will not contain the correct Apple header information. This can only be added by a MAC.

Have you tried uploading your ProRes to the Getty ESP system? - You will get an error.
I don't upload video to iStock, anymore. Their commission is an insult.

You might be right about the header, however my PC created ProRes clips are fine for Shutterstock.

Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk

I don't upload to iStock but I do upload to Getty. It took a considerable effort getting the ProRes correct.

The last I heard on the Getty forum was that someone had written a script that could rewrite the FFMpeg header info to the ProRes clip correctly. Basically tricking systems into thinking it was produced on a MAC.
I'm using FFMpeg to render the ProRes clips on my PC and I only have issues with Fotolia's preview generator.

Maybe even the full resolution files are ok but no point in showcasing a broken preview... So I send them Photo-JPG movs.

Some agencies (not IS/Getty) confirmed to me that PC rendered ProRes files are no problem. And since I have no plans to upload any footage to iStock I stay with my system.

Same thing here.Someone reported that his 2160p prores clips are displaying properly, but mine are not, so i upload as mjpeg both 2160p and 2304p.Same applies for 1080p prores clips so it's not the resolution
The only thing left to ask since support hasn't got the slightest idea about how their site works is, are your prores clips encoded on a windows or on an apple machine?
Out of curiosity: Are you rendering the clips on a Mac or PC? Mine are rendered on a PC.

Just realised that if they start selling 4K footage for $100, at 20% royalty, that makes $20 for us.

$20 for 4K video!!!

You can actually see the number of downloads by each video and the best selling aerial video has been downloaded 7 times in 6 years!!! Go to page 2 and you already see 0 sales on all videos. I can probably sell more aerials through my grandma :D
All I see is that they charge $50 for 4K videos. Search for "4K" and select footage on the left. The videos have a 4K icon. Click on one and you see $50 for the "HD" option which has a resolution of 4096x2160 pixels. Go figure.
