I thought for sure this batch failed because of how long it was taking to review. Today though, I got...

Bigstock.com / I'm buying - request for a few images
« on: May 01, 2011, 12:25 »
Ok, I need a few images of carved candles. Web sized basically so dont go buying these expensive things just for me  :D. If you have some already cool. I have only found 1 but it is more than I found on the other sites I was going to convert credits on. Got credits on BS and ready to do a little buying.

Maybe this can spur some BS sales for a few MSG'ers.

I don't want molded candles...I want carved like this one... Bigstock ID #55146

Reply here if you have some approved on BS.

Thanks

DepositPhotos / Convert acount money to credits
« on: May 01, 2011, 01:35 »
Can you do that with DP?

Looking to buy some photos if I can find the right ones. I know I can do it at 123rf. Both site give me troubles in finding Carved Candles. I get a bunch of Halloween Pumpkins.

Off Topic / Need a reason to watch Kids shows?
« on: April 28, 2011, 20:04 »
I have to watch Nick Jr. due to my almost 3 year old daughter. Yea, I know some of the theme songs and sing them with her.... but... today I discovered something new about the Wonder Pets. It is not just a Guinea Pig, a Turtle and a Duck... it is also Stock Photos. Now I will be trying to watch closer to see how they use them.

Software - General / Looking for a Email Program
« on: April 21, 2011, 18:50 »
I am looking for a Program that I can check 4 email accounts from. Screw using outlook...lol.

I asked my brother about Incredimail so waiting to hear from him.

Basically I want something that I click a box and I am reading and sending from one account. Click another Box... same thing with another account. I am tired of hopping from one account to another.. just want it centralized.

Any suggestion on some that I can go look at?

Thanks in advance.

PS.. if it has any bearing on it... between Yahoo and gmail accounts and I primarily use Firefox for my browser.

Off Topic / Wanna know how to make Soap?
« on: March 28, 2011, 14:31 »
I just did my first tutorial on how I make Homemade Soap the Hot Process way in a Crock Pot. Never used Instructables before but I think it came out ok.

Yes I mention my website in it  because I am also hoping to drive some type of customer traffic to the store. On Etsy, you got to drive the traffic if you really want to sell.

But, someone may gain info out of it. I think Soap Making is kinda neat.

Off Topic / Kate Gosselin Photo Op for me
« on: March 08, 2011, 15:24 »
Apparently Kate from "Jon and Kate Plus 8" is coming to my small neck of the woods for a couple of hours. I have no clue as to why. I dont think she is dragging the kids along for this either. Have not done much shooting this winter so this might be a good time to break out the Speed Light and such. Other than shooting a small reality star.. I dont care what she does..lol.

So, if I get some good shot.... Alamy or Shutterstock editorial?...lol

I dont know if this is helpful or not but the Parade magazine that comes in the Newspapers here in the States uses a lot of stock images from various Agencies.

On the web you can look and tineye them here: http://www.parade.com/

So far I have found images from Alamy, Getty, Istock, Fotolia and SXC.hu (is SXC a free dl place?).

I have not found any of my images but maybe someone can find a tearsheet or use.

Alamy.com / Question about the Model Release
« on: November 29, 2010, 12:23 »
I finally have a few images that will use the Alamy Model Release but I have one question.

The first paragraph ... who's name goes in that spot? Mine or the Models?

"For good and valuable Consideration of _____________ , herein acknowledged as received,"

I also have some shots from a few days before. Does it need another Model Release for the date or can I just add in Image numbers in the shoot description field?

New Sites - General / Totallycoolpix ?
« on: November 22, 2010, 19:29 »
Has anyone heard of this place? Looking around some photo forums sites and I happened to see this banner.

The main site entrance is http://totallycoolpix.com

The submitter application entrance is: http://totallycoolpix.com/are-you-a-photographer/

What they say:

We are always on the lookout for more totally cool pix. No matter what the subject, as long as there is a connection between or a story behind your images we are interested. It can be about architecture, inner city life, animal close ups, slow, images with a common theme (colour, event, national holiday, religion) and so on. The minimum number of images we are looking for in one set is 15. The ideal number would be 20 to 25 or higher.

In return for the (non-exclusive) use of your images we giv e you between $100-150, a link back to your website and the change to show off your work to thousands of people from around the world. And who knows, your images might get noticed by the likes of Reuters.    ???

Software - General / Problem with Lightroom 2.5
« on: November 07, 2010, 16:41 »
I have no clue as to what is going on. Running Adobe Lightroom 2.5 with no problems until today.

What happens is Photos will not load all the way. Even in Library Mode the Images stay a little fuzzy. When I pop one over to Develop.. the photo shows.. a little fuzzy when brought to full size and the "Loading" never goes away.

I have not installed any other programs. It was working fine yesterday. I changed the cashe size to give it more.. purged the cashe... even put Windows XP on Performance mode. Restarted to clear the ram. Did not fox the problem. Uninstalled LR then reinstalled.. no fix.

Searched the net on google but could not find anything about a problem like this.

The only other things I can do is run a boot time virus scan with avast and run combo fix if there is something Avast didn't catch.

I did clean out (or thought I did) a nice Virus last week which slowed me down and routed my internet connections to an empty proxy every time I went to use Firefox. No problems after that so I dont know if its related to this somehow.

Any Ideas on what the problem might be?

Edit: Going to run the Boot Time Scan and run Combofix to see if there is anything there... might be a while coming back to check this thread.

Alamy.com / Sales at Alamy #2 Update from 2008 Thread
« on: November 05, 2010, 16:14 »
I was reading back in the Forums and found this thread

http://www.microstockgroup.com/alamy-com/sales-at-alamy-any-updates/

I thought it might be fun to see who is still around from that time. Also to see how people are doing and if its impacted somehow by Istocks dealings and such.

For my input: I had 13 images up there since last year.. and forgot about them. Checking them about a month or so ago, I had a sale netting me $66. Its from a shot that would never had made the micros at all.. but yet.. someone wanted it for an education book of some sort. Yay Me..lol.

Now with Istocks changing of their game, I figured to change up my approach to Work Smarter Not Harder. I decided which Micros Agencies I am going to stop uploading to or cut out altogether when I reach payouts. I am going to start concentrating on Alamy with RF and RM and occasionally shoot a little for the MS Sites I am keeping. It will be different Photos. I do have some of my RF Photos Crossed over into Alamy but I am going to keep them separate now. This should cut down the time a little by only submitting to Alamy for the most part and about 3 sites (2 Micros and 1 Business cards cause I like making them).

Since 2 weeks ago I have upped that 13 images to 56 now (with about 6 or 7 of them being crossed from the Micros).

Your Turn. Any Updates or Stories?

General Stock Discussion / People ignore general stock photos?
« on: November 02, 2010, 22:40 »
I kinda think this is a little flawed by their examples shown towards the Bottom. How many people are going to look at a TV to see how it looks? I go for the Specs. because pretty much all of them are Black / Grey and rectangular in shape.

Alamy.com / Do you NU?
« on: November 01, 2010, 10:48 »
I was wondering how many Alamy Submitters opted in to Novel Use. I just opted back into it this morning just to see if it does anything for me money, view or zoom wise.

Bigstock.com / Is it still alive???
« on: October 29, 2010, 09:37 »
I went back and checked my sales at Bigstock since the SS buyout. I have had a total of 4 sales there since then. WTH?

Where is this marketing push from SS that The Admins have been claiming was coming since January? I dont see it. I upload the same stuff there that I do with SS. I think it was Warren Price that mentioned it took him 2 years to reach payout. A Payout of $50.

I just need $19 more to make payout then they are on the chopping block for me.. so maybe 1 1/2 years from now I can get my $50? Just disappointing.

First find for me...but not my pic. I just happened across this on Flickr... love the title to the Pic. So original.

Looks like it's on Istock to someone who has major sales.

Matter of fact... looks like this person has more than a few Stock Photos on their Flickr account. Might want to run through it and see if any are yours.

I am getting more interested in vectors now. I have been doing rasters in Xara Xtreem and love that program and very few vector conversions to eps10 for SS. I am now interested in trying to get some into Istock.

For you first samples, I am wondering if they need to be full out scenes or can they be objects. Backgrounds? I am thinking of a Thanksgiving Cartoon Turkey Scene so far. I also want to try a realistic Guitar as a solo object.

If anyone has any hints, tips or trick for getting the initial samples approved, I would appreciate it.

P.S. I know they only allow EPS8...which is going to cause me to study more stuff....lol.

Shutterstock.com / Raster accepted but Vector Rejected
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:35 »
First time I had this happen.. but I don't do a lot of Vectors though. Just seems weird to me. Is it normal to reject the vector but then the raster is good enough?

Vector was rejected for: "Too Simple--Overly simple vector."

Off Topic / Going to be gone for a bit
« on: February 27, 2010, 21:15 »
I got my last 2 Speedlights in today and just got finished modding them with 3.5mm Jacks. So, now I have a 3 Speedlight system, Umbrellas, Stands and a Softbox. Now I need to learn how to do lighting. I am going to take off for a couple to a few weeks to devote to learning all I can.

In that time... it is very possible that we might be moving also. We are a high number on a waiting list. I dont know if we are going to set up for cable or what for internet so I might be gone for longer unless I pop in on a friends computer or something.

Thanks to everyone for all I have learned just by reading. I will be back...just when I don't know.

Microstockgroup Buy and Sell / Flash Deals for the U.S.
« on: February 12, 2010, 15:01 »
I learned about this in the Strobist Flickr Group but did not want to share until I ordered and tested. These are OPEN BOX ITEMS. Not new but mine came in a Older looking Manuf. Box... with no Instructions. I found the manual online though. Flash itself looks brand new.

http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4less/5316609?mv_pc=AID=109696#pd_nav

I got the Canon ETTL (They are out of the Nikon) Model of the Quantaray 900WA. Tried it out in Manual on my Nikon D60. All functions I can test...work perfectly. $36 and free Shipping in U.S.

They have a bunch of other flashes too.. but as I have noted...stay away from the PZ-1's.

I did title as "deal for the U.S." because I am not sure how much shipping to anywhere else will be. From what I have read also...Customer Service is great.

123RF / Site problems at 123?

I am trying to get in to check if anything has sold or if files have been approved. All it does after signing in is error out for me. Anyone else able to get in.

iStockPhoto.com / Istock took away one of my Pics
« on: January 28, 2010, 20:03 »
Warning: a little rant

They took this one down originally for being a Motorola Razr.

So I sent them a email back explaining it's a Sanyo Katana.

They reply:

"Thank you for the reply.

We have carefully reviewed the matter and understand this is not the RAZR, however after much consideration and as it is a product shot we feel at this time that we cannot accept it due to trademark concerns."

So I just ended it with:
"This is nice to know because just a quick review of keyword "cellphone" returned quite a few Motorola Phones along with other identifiable models. I know because I used to be Level 3 Cell Repair Tech."

So now what? Should I stop uploading cell phones due to this crap. That, to me, is F'ing stupid.

General Stock Discussion / Do you "Rake in the Cash"?
« on: December 09, 2009, 16:58 »
Found this Associated Content Article dated Dec. 8, 2009... (Big Edit... I said Associated Press...oops Associated Content.. sorry)

"Typically, stock photography sites are the most common method to rake in the cash."

"Some photographers make thousands each month from such stock photo websites."

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2468166/how_to_make_money_with_photography.html?cat=3

I am not raking it in. I am getting probably lawn trimmings...lol. Glad I didn't believe the hype that is out there. If I had the unrealistic views that's out there on the web, I would have been very disappointed and given up in my first 3 months. With the realistic views I found here and on MS Forums.... I know I am in for the long haul and I know I have to work for it.
