I have been to some events where you can buy your own pass. All it is, is a different colored wrist band. Forget the extra hoop. I will stick with Alamy for news and editorial.

Problem is, while I yet have to sell an editorial sports photo at Alamy, they are selling very good at SS...

Well then, I guess whoever you get permission from... maybe write up a paper for them to sign if they will. Like those events, I was not into Photography then but I knew who ran things. Just type some type of Clearance statement up and have them sign. Only you can say if the extra steps are worth it to you.

General Stock Discussion / Restored Classic cars P.R. question
« on: August 23, 2012, 13:46 »
A buddy of mines Father has around 30 Classic V.W. Bugs and might drag out a few of them for me to do a photo session and practice Magazine style shots with. I was thinking about putting them as RM but who would the Property Release have to be signed by to be a legal P.R.?

Is it V.W. since it is their model or is it the Car owner since they restored and painted?

For reference, I am in the U.S.A.

I know where to get some big bucks if I knew how to TIG right now on aluminum. Got the word on it already. This course covers it all and throws in Gasline and Pipeline welding.

I would actually like a Photog Buddy's job. He is an Engineer. Not behind a drafting table or computer. He drives trains for a Major Company. Plus he is a few years younger than me. That would be the job there.

Been a while since I posted on this subject.

All the monies have been paid up and I go in 2 day to get my books ($530 for 4 of them). Just drove over today to handle some small stuff like parking pass and I.D. I go to school for my first day on Monday the 27th.

Maybe I should have my mom give me a wake up call on that day. I bet she would like to hear the old phrase again... "Oh mom. Let me go back to sleep. But I don't wanna go to school today."  :P

Glad it is being phased out. Maybe they can use the extra time in finding better monetary deals for us and Alamy.

General Photography Discussion / Sony NEX Full Frame
« on: August 17, 2012, 23:15 »
Apparently Sony is rumored to be working on a Full Frame Nex.

http://www.petapixel.com/2012/08/17/sony-rumored-to-be-working-on-a-full-frame-mirrorless-nex-camera/

Considering that I only see crop sensors on any of their cameras  (that currently are on B&H), are they going to have a different mount (meaning new lenses to make) or will the A Mounts work on these with the larger sensor?

Just got back from a festival. One stage there had a title I think fit this thread very well. You too can celebrate Freestock.

I'll take a stab in the dark.

She also said they are Washington Capitol images that were rejected. She also said she has 77 images from Washington DC (Capitol Images) already. If you pop into her Portfolio, I see a bunch of similar type shots and that leaves me to wonder if they were just more similars to already approved shots. Theres only so many ways to shoot the Capitol Building or the Washington Monument.

I shoot in "S" mode. That stands for Stock, Semi-Pro and Sales....lol. Thats my secret..oops... I did not say this.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Anybody using the Sony a77?
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:30 »
Sarah, I am going to upgrade in probably November and I am going for the A57. Got my eye on a couple of f/2.8 lenses so I need to decided which one will be coming with the camera and which one will come later. The speed of fps with the shoot thru mirror is very intriguing. The only thing I see weak on it is the Flash Sync at 1 / 160 but if I add in a Sony Speedlight (more money to spend..lol), I think there is some type of Hi Speed Sync setting.  Or if I just go with the speedlight system I got now, I can get mount adapters for the camera body. Also I hear some of the settings can be a pain to change on this model with the buttons and menu layouts. Example video I have seen from one in a review looks very nice but I am not much of a video guy. You can also use older Konika and Minolta glass I think.

What you get for the price, it seems like it will be a good fit for me and my budget.

Just saw it. Different so got to get used to it. What do you think of the Contributor page facelift? Is the navigation easier now to you?

67
I am not sure. I only have speedlights for my setup. Another factor would be the lenses you want to use. f/1.4's and 1.8 gain you some ground on your lighting. Where Bobby Deal on this....lol.

68
Just guessing but maybe shoot through umbrellas just to throw the light around the area and the softboxes of some sort on your models.

Seeing those only bring Gunnery Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket to mind. Make sure to split the profit and buy more undies for yourself ...ummm... to shoot.  ;D

Just clicked on a random image's "buy" link. No Watermark (actually a term of having the store... no watermark) on a nice sized file.... and then read what I see in the top right....lol.

"You are buying a 24 by 36 inches (landscape) Gallery Wrapped Canvas Print for $207.99. Your purchase includes an HD Download (1920x1080). Remember, it is for personal use only. If you have any questions about the licence, please read the licence information. Your canvas print will arrive in 7-14 business days."

Site looks nice but I think I am going to pass.

« on: July 18, 2012, 13:42 »
Just heard about this place so kind of checking it out right now. Anyone else heard of it.. on it... thoughts about it? Internet rumor mill seems to have this site as the place pros go to when leaving Flickr.  ???

Seems that you even get a Personal Store with the paid membership. As far as what they sell (prints or digital) I don't know yet. Might be something to check out if the store features a good cut of the percentage. Go more investigation to do on it to see if I want to roll on to there with anything.

Thanks. I just sent Shutterstock a email and will see what they do. I guess I have been around long enough to really start checking up on my images now...lol. Maybe this weekend, me and google image search are going to get to know each other really well.

It will be pretty easy to spot... the only one on there with the Shutterstock watermarking.

So, what would be my best course of action to make a little money? Go to shutterstock or hit the site myself?
