Just interested, what is review time now? I'm waiting since 20 Dec.

http://discussion.alamy.com/index.php?/topic/1667-christmas-cover/

I am in the queue since 22nd. I believe there is no need to worry just yet  :)

Hope so.  That link is about the forum moderators but maybe it indicates the whole company took holiday.  My last two batches got approved in less than 24 hours so maybe I am spoiled.

Odd I've not seen anyone on their forum complaining.

Me too, starting to think I will get the 30 day rejection penalty.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS rejections 100%
« on: December 31, 2013, 16:25 »
I have to agree with the reviewer on those three.

The first is really harsh lighting, and SS hates shadows.  And the composition is poor.  Never put the subject dead center.  I know the buyer can crop how they want, but the reviewer is going to reject it.

The second, has shadows in the rocks, the horizon is tilted and colors look off.

The third, the tops of the trees are cut off.  Not sure what this is a shot of, if the wall and palm trees then it should be much tighter, if the whole scene then you need the tree tops.

Just my opinion.

SS does occasionally reject whole batches for seemingly no reason, I have had it myself.  If you really feel the images were good, then either correct the flaws mentioned and resubmit with a note that they were rejected before and are now 'fixed' or send and email with the batch number to SS and politely ask for a second look.

I have asked for a re-review several times and have always gotten a polite reply and second review, sometimes all images accepted, sometimes a note saying they agree with the reviewer.

Sky is full of noise and the image looks over-sharpened, almost crispy.  Hard to tell much from the small image but the noise easy to see.

Sorry if this was already posted but I got a laugh from it.

« on: November 24, 2013, 23:08 »
Not nearly as bad as Fotolia. I wish they would drop the map. Hard to believe someone would click through a dozen times to drill down to a location rather than just type it in the search
I find Fotolia quite easy if you use the indexing feature.  They have way too many categories, but that's another issue.  The submit process is quite simple especially if you batch like pictures.  I send things in batches of 20 and group all 'food' in one batch for example.  Then the categories can be selected for all images at the same time.

Noticed that yesterday and was worried that it had changed a while ago and I never noticed.  I've been trying to find out how many images I sent to the 'free' bin.  I guess none, since it would have warned me.  Guess I caught it before I clicked it.  (Not that I have rejections, anyway though ;D)

Very sneaky, IMHO the whole layout of that page is the worst of any site I deal with.  Incredibly inefficient.

k-5IIs is pretty impressive.  I think comparing it to D800 might be a stretch but I don't think there is anything in APS-C world that beats it.  Handling, focusing, and general fit and finish are just excellent.  Plus weather resistant and IBIS and small size.  Almost too small, I wish it was a quarter inch taller so my pinky would fit.

I don't know about 6400, my tolerance for noise is low and I rarely shoot over 800 ISO, but certainly it is competitive with far more expensive cameras in this area.

Symbiostock - General / Re: What is your acceptance ratio?
« on: August 30, 2013, 20:58 »
No idea what my 'acceptance' rate will be but I can say I am a lot more critical about what I am uploading.  Just an attitude thing I guess but for agencies I am always thinking "that is not great but it will pass review", just trying to get the image count up.  And yeah, I know that's not a good plan.

With my SYS site, I am looking at each image and if I'm not 100% satisfied it gets skipped.  Maybe that will change once I have a bunch uploaded but it is too much work to upload and SEO an image I don't think is good enough.

As to similars, I think the same thing, far less than at agencies.  I usually have no problem uploading 5 to 10 images from a shoot to an agency, I think 2 - 3 is what I'm planning on with SYS.

Well, it looks like it is working now.  Assume it took a while to update.

If anyone would check and see if it works for them I would appreciate it.

Thanks Ron,

I had read all through the Godaddy info but since I'm trying to redirect a sub-domain it did not look like it applied.  Just entered the redirect so we'll see if that works.  www.stockphotos points to stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com

Symbiostock - Technical Support / DNS question?
« on: August 25, 2013, 15:44 »
Working on my site: stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com and making progress but I am stumped with trying to get www.stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com to point to the same place.

www.zigzagmtart.com points to my FAA site and stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com points to my SYS site but how to I get www.stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com to work?  Site is hosted on Godaddy if that matters, I've added the 'A' record for "stockphotos" and there is a cname record for "www" that points to '@' but it does not work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Linux / WIndows site??
« on: August 14, 2013, 19:59 »
Starting to setup my site and decided to use Godaddy for hosting as my domain name is already there.  Thought that would be easiest but now I'm not too sure.

They asked for windows or Linux site, I answered windows (not sure why) is that the right answer or should I change to Linux?

Also, my domain name points to my FAA site so I thought to just create a subdomain and host it on Godaddy for the SyS site.  But that's not working either.  Installed WP but now I have no access to the site so I'm stuck.  In the file manager I can see the WP directories and files but browsing to "stockphotos.zigzagmtart.com" just gives me a page not found.

Any thoughts on what to look into?

Symbiostock - General / Re: Confused on how to start
« on: August 12, 2013, 10:27 »
Thanks for the replies!  I have read the guide and many of the posts in this sub-forum, my problem is it is like reading it in a foreign language.  I can sort of figure out most of the words but I don't always understand what they mean within this context.

So if I set up a host (Bluehost maybe) then I go into the domain registration (Godaddy) and point the domain to the url of the host?  But how do I know what url to point it to?

And if I use sub domains I can have art.domain.com point to FAA and stock.domain.com point to Symbiostock site?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I am sure I can do this, I just want to get started correctly without breaking the internet.

Symbiostock - General / Confused on how to start
« on: August 11, 2013, 19:25 »
This whole internet thing is a mystery to me so please use small words ;)

I am contemplating setting up a Symbiostock site and I want to get started correctly.

I have a domain: www.zigzagmtart.com which is currently forwarded to http://john-trax.artistwebsites.com there is no actual hosting I guess, I just set that up to point to FAA.  Now if I want to run a Symbiostock site do I use the existing domain name or start new?  Can I keep pointing to FAA somehow as well?  Ideally I would like to have a visitor go between the Symbiostock site for image licenses and the FAA site for prints.

Can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks

You certainly don't need a D800 to make money in MS.  Come on, that's like buying a Ferrari to drive to the store for groceries once a week.  Plenty of people doing well with crop sensors or even P&S cameras.  Now if you WANT a D800 that's another issue, if you want it and can afford it (and the glass to go with it) go ahead, why not?

If you treat MS as a business then the cost of your tools needs to be considered as part of your business plan.  And spending a dime more than you need to do the job just takes money out of your pocket.

If you treat MS as a way to afford (or justify) your camera gear then buy what you want.  But thinking you will do better in MS with a D800 over a good crop sensor is IMHO just deluding yourself.

I had 80 images in the queue in four different batches, 20 showed as approved before this happened the rest in pending.  Now all 80 are simply gone.  Not in portfolio, not in pending not in history.  FTP processing says no images found.  Not good.

DepositPhotos / Re: What's wrong with Depositphotos?
« on: June 18, 2013, 01:44 »
Can`t remember the last time I had an image rejected at DP.  They seem to take just about anything.  Maybe the initial review is tougher.  But regular submissions, they are by far the easiest.  Even take more than CS.

Post a few and ask for a critique maybe it is something simple.

Certainly worthwhile getting accepted there, sales are regular.

No FTP for two days now.  I used the web uploader and that seems to have worked.  No releases on this batch though.

Symbiostock - General / Re: FAA vs SY
« on: June 09, 2013, 16:46 »
I don't see any problem with a higher price at FAA than for an RF license.

People buying from FAA are paying for a finished product, if they wanted to they could certainly open an account at any of the micros, download an image, get it printed, get it matted, and get it framed.  But they don't want the hassle or don't know how so they pay someone to do it for them.

They could do that by buying a license from your SY site and printing etc as well, but I doubt many will.  Have you ever taken a print to a local shop for matting and framing?  It's not cheap at the retail level.  FAA prices are pretty good when compared to local shops.

Adobe Stock / Re: My images always refused by fotolia
« on: May 02, 2013, 23:45 »
On my last upload I got 100% acceptation at Alamy (new agency for me)
You do realize that on Alamy it is either 100% approved or 100% failed?  And they do not care at all what you upload as long as the image meets their technical requirements.

On FT I have a very high acceptance ratio, better than most other sites.  Not that my images are particularly good, just that I seem to take things they like to accept.  I have learned a little: never send FT flowers ;D and never send them isolated fruit.  It will get rejected.  Despite the given rejection reasons I think on FT they look more at what the image is than other sites do and they reject things they do not want.

As Poncke has already said, if it is rejected either ignore it and take the sales from the other sites.  Or learn what the site wants and adapt, your choice.
