We should also email a link to this thread to Fiverr - see what their directors make if it...

You don't have to buy a gig - you can report it to the BBB as a suspected scam..

It's a good idea - looks like they've had a few complaints in the past. If nothing else it's another way way of putting pressure on them regarding their attitude to copyright.

Just realized - "fence" might be a bit confusing outside of the U.K..

Just has to be enough to "rattle" the business. Not all publicity is good publicity. "Oh yeah, Fiverr - that company which acts as fence for criminals!"....

Dangerous thing the web when crossed...

That sites mentioned in the Webutation reviews site for Fiverr.

I don't use Facebook - anyone who has can leave a review for the company here:

http://www.webutations.org/go/review/fiverr.com

When Google raters (they exist) rate web pages, this site is one they check out. Not somewhere you want a bad reputation.

That's insane. Surely here we have a business who are facilitating the sale of copyrighted material. Without the proper controls and procedures in place, surely this would place the company in a questionable legal position?

Outside of the legal route, the other alternative is go give the company such a bad reputation that there site will be "flagged" or "downgraded" - much in the same way that sites allowing the download of movies get their IP blocked. That wouldn't be easy or quick, but if they continue to allow these infringements to happen; to my mind they are in the same business as those MP3 and movie sharing sites the governments are so keen to block.

Think this one's on the level. It's been tried before with mechanical turk over the disappearance of Steve Foss? and his hot air balloon in the U.S.A.

In theory, it's a great concept - many pair of eyes scouring current satellite images in pre-defined grids at a good resolution.

I certainly don't envy Lobo being wheeled out to take the  abuse and defend the indefensible.  To misquote Blackadder, "Submitting to IS is like a broken pencil" (pointless)

Well - putting a pair of underpants on your head, sticking two pencils up your nose and saying "wibble" is meant to get you out of most things.. Lobo should take note.

Couldn't resist with another Blackadder fan around....

I spent a month living in the Ukraine as a young man - in Odessa. Great country and lovely people. Everyone should be able to live in peace and happiness.

Ah- Google is just doing it's job. Depending where you are searching from and what your search query is, Google will look at interpretations.

There is no 1 common interpretation for the query - unlike say Sylvester Stallone. With the query "Sean Locke", Google will want to display both the common and minor interpretations.

Common would be the comedian
Less common would be the photographer
Minor would be someone with that name who''s not famous at all

Google trying to display the most common interpretation in the majority of results, along with less common interpretations of the query to give the results page diversity.

It's usually works quite well. Also the results you see will depend where you are searching from. If you're in the UK you'll get the slightly funny comedian at the top for example.

Same with the images - works the same way. Getting yourself in there simply shows that our Sean Locke is no longer a minor interpretation, but in fact is now in himself a standardized Google search term.

Yep - nice idea. Had a quick look, I produced 1.2 gig of image files today (when I factor in all of the distribution channels). That's going to put me in the workaholic category. 50 Euro's is a significant expense.

If I lived somewhere with a terrible connection I'd have a another look, however I'm in the UK - I just set the old FTP going last thing at night. If I'm candid its an effort to stay on top of it though, the price is just a bit heavy for me.

Nightmare isn't it - people want something for next to nothing nowadays. Anyone would think I produced images for microstock!

Good luck - Oldhand

Same thing - inaccurate book keeping, means inaccurate figures to pay tax on. It doesn't have to be intentional. It's something external auditors should pick up - they will be audited on a regular basis. The problem is the lack of transparency, our relationship with them is based on trust to pay what is due. Let's not go there..

Surely if the accounting is off, then so is their tax liability? Not a good plan falling foul of the taxman if you get my drift...

Volume wise, assuming an average last 7 days of reporting, I'm at 90% of the previous month, which is reasonable - hard cash 60%

123RF / Re: December payment?
« on: December 17, 2013, 19:16 »
Ditto - no payment.. First time ever it's been late...

44
I got to the end of page 2 and gave up - no sign. Most user would not look past the top 3 or four results.

There is no definitive placing in Google. It depends where you are searching from and a whole other host of factors such as previous search history, sites you've visited etc, regularly used sites etc.

The same keyword phrase isn't all that brilliant either. It's very generic with a huge number of matches -"stock photo". Let's say you search for, "stock photo web site" - do you want to visit the URL for www.stockphoto.com or do you want to go to a site selling stock photos? It's not a keyword gem! By contrast type in "apple web site"; you know where you'll end up...

That said - I'm a hopeless businessman... Good luck to you with your domain name. You'll need to make "stockphotos.com" a distinctive brand to succeed.

45
Business brand is everything and the domain should match. This is current SEO best practice. Unless the owner is going to invest heavily in the site to make it of high quality, then there is minimal advantage to owning this particular one. He must have a wad of spare cash though; I could have bought a nice house for that!

Fair call - however said entity isn't beyond the "law". I could go on; in the interests manners I won't on this occasion.

Suffice to note that I hope this forum remains completely open as long as we conduct our conversations professionally.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy changed payment threshold
« on: November 29, 2013, 14:01 »
Answered my own question by searching the Alamy forum - 'Yes, youll be paid in the December payrun. The changes in the contract officially comes into force in 45 days time but we're working with these new rules with effect from the next pay run (beginning of December).'

Moot point - accountants can be expensive! HMRC will send a letter to a physical address relating to tax dates and your NI contributions. However, it's all done online for the payment of it and listing your expenses etc - which you could do from anywhere.

I've been a sole trader for a long time (not VAT registered or a Ltd company which are very different). After I registered and got my log in details to the HMRC website - I think all I got was a reminder to pay my tax every year sent to me. I'd take some more professional advice about this, but I wouldn't rush in a get an accommodation address or accountants address unless you need one.

A host of people will probably say accountants save you money - however this depends on how your business is run. You might be better with a part time accountant from the area you live who can deal with it for you rather than a high street firm. You might also be able to do it yourself.

I paid about 700 for my first tax return about 8 years ago - and it was straightforward. For the next x amount of years I did it myself at the cost of a day tearing my hair out every year. Get some small business advice...

Quick question - I believe it is this month that the payment threshold is lowered (end Nov). I'm at $150 cleared - but it's not coming up in the balance of account section as due? That's not the norm when you were over the old threshold. Anyone else the same? Does it mean I will get payed or not? Thanks...

Off Topic / Re: Transitioning to mobile SEO
« on: November 28, 2013, 08:32 »
SEO for mobile and web is the same. There is no need to create a second optimized mobile site. Create the website as usual with good content, keywords and links etc. Just make sure the platform it is built on is optimized for mobile (mobile enabled). Most sites will render on a mobile device, but you want a website that renders in a mobile version. There are plenty of free emulators out there so you can see how you site looks on a IPad or the latest Nokia etc...

No need for shorter keywords - your search terms on the website will be fine; maybe if you're selling somethingwierdandlongname. Probably not though.

Mobile use is however exploding worldwide, the question is how this relates to stock images for us?
