Newbie Discussion / Re: How do you keep track of your images?
« on: April 29, 2009, 10:23 »
I looked around and tried different programs, but I still went with the designing my own database in MS Access... I guess the lure is that I can run reports and find out which type of image is selling, what has been rejected and why from where...

I'm a detail person (probably too much so). I am trying to track a lot of information. I wonder how long it will last  ;D.

Gimp does not have a native CMYK mode. There is a plug in that separates the image into CMYK layers, but then you can't adjust the compression options to save it as a TIF. I love working in GIMP, but this is one of the serious issues with it...

The people who are improving GIMP are trying to fix this, but it isn't on top of their to do list (unfortunately).

Basically, I still have to bring my image into Photoshop and change the mode there when I need to. It is really quite a pain.

;)After nearly a week I got a reply from dreamstime support about what is exactly wrong with my illustrations... part of my work has raster artifacts from when they are compressed and converted to jpgs...

Email the support team at dreamstime and ask them to give a specific reason for their rejection.

I actually did not know you could get artifacts on illustrations. I found an article at scantips.com/basic9jb.html that explain how to spot the artifacts in your jpgs... I am currently collecting tips on how to reduce these artifacts on my own work...

Newbie Discussion / How do you keep track of your images?

??? I am new at submitting my images on stock sites and I am finding that I am spending too much time cataloging my submitted images in word...

Is there anyone out there who can drop some tips as to what they track and how they do it without it eating a couple hours of their time?

That is an awesome vector...

Basically don't take it to heart about the rejection from Dreamstime... I get the same reason for most of my rejections. Bigstockphoto accepted one of the rejected illustrations from Dreamstime and sold it within one hour of it being approved.

My biggest guess is that Dreamstime is trying to out guess the market. I do wish that they would fix their reasons for rejecting illustrations to something a little less rude and more specific...
