Adobe Stock / Re: Rejections at FT ?
« on: September 27, 2007, 07:05 »
Yes, more rejections are being handed out!  The only problem I have with that is that some of the rejected files had more sales potential and quality than some of the files that where accepted  from my submissions.

Meaning that the rejected files are doing well at all the sites I submit too.  Fotolia is also my second best selling site, so I'm familiar with what has been selling at this site.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Isolations at iStock
« on: September 16, 2007, 10:33 »
I'm going crazy trying to get my isolations accepted at iStock.
All of a sudden I'm  getting rejected for jagged edges.  I think one of the reviewers there is checking the isolations with zero tolerance. Thats plain silly. Even the very cleanest of isolations, once they are compressed, will show slight jagginess at 100% with zero tolerance, so I think its impossible to upload a jpeg-ed isolation that would be clean enough under those conditions.
Oh and that rejection reason of over filtering on images that haven't been filtered just boils my blood  >:(

Just my little venting for the day .. needed that.

Your'e not alone!  Istock is the only agancy my isolations have a problem getting accepted.  The most common rejection being "edges too feathered" even when the feathering is set betwween .05-.08 with a 1 pixel edge width. I include a clipping path to most of my isolations which means I use the pen tool to isolate with. They sell very well at the other agencies I submit to and I'm sure they would at Istock also.  The response time from Scout, if any, is about as long as their review time, approx. 2 weeks for me.

General - Top Sites / Re: How the big six rank for me
« on: September 02, 2007, 19:44 »
I agree with sharply - IS easily holds the best long term potential for me.

It is very likely that I shall go exclusive with IS towards the end of the next twelve months (I need to be silver or preferably gold first).

SS earns me the most money at the moment, but I don't regard SS as a good long term investment; SS is very nice for a wham bam thank you ma'am, but as we all know, as soon as one stops uploading the income will fall very heavily.

I cannot, for instance, go on a six week tour of China and be able to rely on continued income from SS like I can with IS; chances are I'd return from China and find my SS income down by at least 50% and probably nearer 75%.

SS is great fun and I love it.  But business is business.

There's no doubt that IS and the other "pay per download" sites are set up for the long hall!
SS is like a committed marriage.  You have to keep it alive or else it will die on you!

IS, for me, holds by far the most promise for long term earnings.

Why do you think you are doing so poorly on IS, and are you doing (or planning on doing) anything about it?

On IS it comes down to what and how many photos I've gotten accepted on that site!  I have by far the smallest portfolio there (87 images) compared to the other sites but I've still made it to the bronze canister.  As far as what action I'm taking to get more accepted is for me to continue to progress as a photographer and hope they accept more of what I contribute.

With all the criteria that goes into how well you perform on a site I look at the bottom line on earnings made to rank the "big six". I've started contributing to the "big six" within the same year and here's how they rank for me in terms of money generated.

I would just resubmit if you have a strong feeling about the photo.  Good chance it will get accepted a second time if the quality is there!

I've always had nice success at Fotolia, but there is a search engine issue that prevents customers from viewing everthing in your portfollio. This of course results in a lower opportunity to make sales.

.... I have no idea how they are finding the images. Anybody got any idea?

;D -- I have been wondering that, too.  I have sold fewer than those posting here and wonder how they manage to find our images.

The category search is how it's being done.  Can't wait till the keyword search gets fixed!

not be able to upload is annoying but I can understand, not being able to get at those hard earned credits  is very annoying.

Not being able to cash out your credits is really annoying!!!

They're supposedly working on it so I will be more patient.  But I sure could use that $100+  now! :)

I'm not not able to convert my credits because of a required form field (EIN) that is missing on the form and is preventing me to continue on to convert the credits to cash.

Anyone else experiencing this?  I left message with support! There forum isn't working at the moment.

Their site is running much slower for me than the previous version and my system is connected via fiber optics!  Are they using a new connect address for uploading via ftp?  My connection to them no longer works and the flash upload via their site is unbearably slow.

Seems like they overcommitted themselves!  Hopefully all the kinks will be erased this week cause this is one of my top selling sites!

The account information tag is floating in front of whatever page you try to view.  I also get a blank screen when I try to view the forum.

Shutterstock.com / Re: more detailed stats at Shutterstock
« on: April 22, 2007, 09:45 »
after browsing through some of the more recent threads I thought it was time for something a bit more constructive so I thought i would start making suggestions for things I would like to see at various sites.

I have about 2,700 files at SS and am having a fair amount of success but I am finding it slightly difficult to track what images are moderately sucessful, the best sellers are obvious they appear on the first page of 20 images but I checked I have 100 pages of downloaded images so about 2,000 downloaded images.

I would like to see would be a search option for just the  photographer to arrange my portfolio in order of number of DLs (as "most popular" takes into account time on the site) preferably with the number of DLs under it. so at 60 photos per page it would a slightly more managable 33 pages.

If I could search just my own portfolio for a keyword to compare sales that would be great

so has anyone else got a sensible suggestions for other sites I suppose we should post them on the sites own forum as well

I have no where near as many photos on SS as you do but I'm able to view individual image download amounts under "Download Stats / by Subscription Download".

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Adjustment layers question
« on: April 20, 2007, 14:17 »
Let me see if I'm understanding you correctly.  You edit your photos using layers in Photoshop.  You isolate your images sometimes by creating a mask by using a layer were you use the brush tool to reveal brightened areas in your photo that you desire.  Are you sure you don't mean the eraser tool? Now your brush tool isn't working.

You may not have the layer your working on selected. This is indicated when you see the "eye" icon to the left of the layer.  A simple oversite like that can prevent a tool from working.

Hope this helps!

General Stock Discussion / Slooooow Monday

We'll this has officially been a slow Monday for me at all the sites I submit to!  :(

Has it been like this for anyone else?   Not trying to have a "pity party" but wonder if it  could be mainly due to the Easter holiday.
