Thank you guys so much for checking it out! But you were all supposed to say "It looks wonderful exactly how it is!!!!!" It looks like I've got my work cut out for me! One problem with the size options is the only way to allow multiple downloads was to have it all together like that -- but I could put a blank line separating each option, so I may need to do that. And I would definitely like to add photos from other photographers -- its very limited right now and I want to be able to offer a WIDE range of photos. I just didn't want to out and out ask because I was concerned about everyone thinking I'm spamming. And my number one priority was to have the site checked out for problems. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] (I'm offering 25%)

I just finished putting together a specialized stock site (its only wine industry photography), and wanted your uninhibited critiques -- I've been working in a vacuum and would like opinions from folks familiar with stock sites and could spot any glaring errors I have made but am too involved to notice. For example -- do I have too much text on the home page? Are the categories easy to read? Is the navigation intuitive? I'm especially concerned because I couldn't afford the expensive stock software so had to build this pretty much from scratch -- who knows how many mistakes I've made! Its at: http://www.vinografia.com/TIA!!!

I'm wanting to create my own niche stock photo site -- do any of you know of any cheap stock photo software? I've been drooling over http://www.imagefolio.com/, but its out of budget (for now) so was hoping for something that maybe takes some setting up but with a much cheaper price. TIA!

Not to mention one sale there equals 17 at iStock

I started uploading to FeaturePics about a week ago and with over a hundred images listed at $5.00 apiece, I'm happy to say I actually made a sale!!!! It's pretty nice to get $3.50 commission for an image!
I remember reading previous posts about their upload process being difficult -- its now super quick and easy! For those of you still on the fence about submitting to them, you may want to take another look (says the woman flush with victory over her $3.50 sale)

I'm putting together a web template/background but am unsure what size/resolution to make it? I'm assuming the resolution should be 72, but with all the screen resolutions out there, what size should I make it? Is it possible to upload several sizes in one file?

Hi All! I'm working on this illustration and feel I should do more on it (shadows around the hand), but am wondering if I should just leave it alone and mark it finished -- what do you guys think?

I would like to buy some material from a fabric store to use as a background -- are there do's and don'ts to doing this?
(I've done this before, and the felt-like tan colored fabric worked great, but the one that was similar to polyester and a dark red wine color turned out aweful. I don't know if it was the type of material that made the difference or the colors, so before I buy any more material I would like to make sure what I'm buying will work.)
Thank you so much!

I have heard (and seen while browsing) many contributers who are 'exclusive to iStock'. Does iStock give preference to those who are exclusive in their Search Engine? And with such a low upload limit, how can anyone be exclusive to just iStock?

This is so good to hear because I love doing illustration, but its so time consuming I couldn't justify spending time doing it instead of photography unless I thought I'd make something from it.
Leaf, I'd love to see some of your work -- could you add a link to your illustration portfolio?

Thank you guys for responding! It sounds like it may be worth it to me to spend some time on the illustrating end of things -- thank you!

I'm torn as to what I should be focusing on for the microstocks -- photography or vector illustration. Do illustrations tend to be downloaded more than photos? Or are photo's by the far the favorite?

Get this -- around the same time I applied to be a photographer at iStock, I also submitted an application for illustration. Well, I just received news that I have been accepted as an illustrator and go to upload my illustrations -- and find out the 20 image limit is for everything -- photos, illustrations, flash, and video! This is crazy! I think if I have to go through a separate application process (including the quiz, and submitting images for review) for each format, we should have separate upload limits!

Not to mention its such a pain in the A**. I don't mind so much the time its taking to review each keyword line, but having to upload one image at a time is a real pain!

I can't believe their limit is so LOW!!!! I was feeling like quite a loser at only 20 per 168 hours. Now I don't feel so bad
17
« on: October 12, 2006, 14:02 »
Wow -- and are those upload limits all within 168 hours? Or does the time between uploads change as well the more downloads you have?
18
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:13 »
So is 20 the limit for everyone? Or is it a higher limit for the old-timers and newbies like me only get 20?

I was finally accepted in to iStock, and can only upload 20 files in a 168 hour time period. Does anyone know how long this restriction will last?

I do not have links to my microstock portfolio and don't plan to add them. Like leaf, I want to keep those two avenues very separate. I feel the purpose of your professional website is to showcase your work. If you lead your viewers away from that to a microstock site where there are many other photographers and artists also displaying their work, it would 'muddy the waters'.

I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT, but have been dreaming of getting a Canon 5D!

With all the different upload methods and limits, I'm starting to get lost on what I've allready submitted when and where. How do you guys keep track?

Thanks you guys! Here is a link to my shutterstock portfolio ( http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery.mhtml?id=73931), and as you can see its pretty specific. (I have a design business focusing on the wine industry http://www.4thegrapes.com, so until harvest is over I'm pretty much spending all my time in the vineyards.) As soon as harvest is over I plan to start taking pictures of more popular subjects.

I have 33 images at Shutterstock and made $9.50 so far this month
Most of my photographs are of grapes and vineyards, so I don't expect them to be super popular. But not knowing the normal image # to income ratio, maybe they are more popular than I was thinking? So after looking at my ratios, am I doing good, bad, or average?
