Just noticed some PP sales on the first of July! What about the subscription sales? Do they come in as well?

Oh, just seen, my subs seem to have turned up already ... don't know if it is all of them, because they all get dumped into the first day that you get any, they aren't spread across the month as they ought to be.

I have a few for the 9th, no other days so far . . . . .

The elephant in the room, what if:

The trial is a success and increased earnings is the result.
I respect those who want nothing to do with DT and deleted their entire portfolio.
But those who didn't want to Risk their images, how many will then want to be part of the new successful Alliance?
So goes comradeship . . . . .

It's a very small elephant.  Once I hear what the project involves I will decide what to do.

Another small elephant (making a Pygmy Elephant herd in the room, I suppose) would be what would the participants do if the trial is a success and then they discover it's the sort of programme they never wanted to be involved in in the first place?

All will become clear in a few weeks' or months' time, I suppose.

That would be the time I would opt-out, but hell, that's just me . . . . .

Alea iacta est The die is cast

Time is up and People have made their decisions. I for one will risk 10 image for this experiment.

Site Related / Re: Disappearing posts
« on: May 14, 2014, 02:22 »
There are 33,400 members of this site. Under the "down arrow" rule, 0.03% of the membership can gag the other 99.97% by joining together to put 10 down votes on any post they like. Do it quick enough and it will vanish before it gets a chance to pick up countervailing "hearts".
Does that make sense? More to the point, how does it fit with the idea of the site allowing a free exchange of views?
The greatest contributions to a discussion often do not come from repetitions of widely held views but from the lone voice presenting a view that has been overlooked, that may or may not be popular.
Isn't allowing 10 votes to silence an opinion the same as saying the church war right and Galileo was wrong, because he was one voice and more than 10 bishops disagreed with him? Or that the anti-Semitic "100 Authors against Einstein" proved that Einstein was wrong and the 100 right, just because they out-numbered him?  Einstein's retort was that if he were wrong, then it would only need one person to prove it.
It's a wonder that none of the stock sites have taken advantage of this to conceal criticism of their action.
Shouldn't the "disappeared ones" be brought back from oblivion? If you dislike someone I believe there is still the "ignore" option available.

Well stated BT

When you buy an original painting, you buy the physical object to have and enjoy. In most circumstances you own only the artwork, not the copyright to it. That remains with the artist unless they specifically sign over their copyright to the buyer, or it was done as work for hire, or the copyright has expired.

You don't automatically acquire the right to reproduce a painting as cards, prints, posters, on t-shirts, etc, along with the painting. It's the same as when you buy a book, film, music, vase, carpet, table, etc: you're acquiring the right to own and enjoy the item but not the right to reproduce it.

or it was done as work for hire would pertain to something like a hired fresco painted in someone's home or a painted portrait.

Off Topic / Re: Windows XP Support Ends April 8th
« on: March 18, 2014, 05:41 »
I'm gonna put off ditching my XP machine as long as possible, but I know at some point, I'll have no other option.  I haven't been able to update Windows for several months because a while back, it was the automatic update that slammed my processor up to 100% and kept it there, slowing my machine to a crawl, and it would have baked the processor if I hadn't shut it down.  Then I discover that you can't update manually without turning on the automatic updates, so no updates since then.  But I've kept my antivirus updated and my home network secured, so I'm good.  8)

I've had the same problem with automatic updates, like you I disabled it for the last couple of months.  Is this a conspiracy policy from MS to force people to upgrade?  Who knows.

seems like everyone i know is affected. should be 9000 only.

is there anyone on this forum, who is selling via PP on iStock and who is NOT affected by this "backfire" action?

Me

With 819 files.
There was an astonishing $41.25 for one file on Jan 14 . . . .  is this an example of  "additional amounts being added to contributors accounts"?  Don't know, its hard to track.

I really don't understand what's going on at DT this month. I had a good January however both my sales and earnings for February are projected to be almost 50% down on January. They have literally halved from one month to the next.

My RPD has also been in free-fall for about a year but especially so since September when I uploaded several hundred new files, adding about 20% to my portfolio size. This time last year my RPD was usually about $2.30-2.40. Now it is $1.06-10. It is as if I've suddenly gone back to 2007-8.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues at DT?

I am having the same kind of month as your are.  Earnings have completely collapsed compared to last month.

Sharpness really does depend on the spirit of the age or spirit of the time (Zeitgeist).  Have a look at one of my favorite Photographers from the 1940s and 1950s . . . .  Saul Leiter.  Sharpness wasn't an important factor.  Photography in those days was always printed small, now it seems the larger the better, often degrading what could have been a nice print.

GLStock / Re: Sudden rise of sales
« on: January 18, 2014, 09:16 »
I never had much sales on GLStock, but December and January have been surprisingly good for a low earner (especially considering their RPD). Has anyone else experienced a sudden rise in sales or am I just lucky?

You're just lucky. :D
For me they have been dead in the water for months.

I am having a contrarian month compare to most here. So far at least 50% more sales and much higher OD and ED sales, with a mixture of new and old files.

If it were me I would want the priced fixed, not maybe if the place is sold.  Don't forget what is known as the Call Girl Principle

There is a philosophy in negotiation strategy known as the Call Girl Principle and it basically posits that the value of a given service is greatly diminished once that service has been rendered. It is named the Call Girl Principle in honor of those women of commercial virtue who always demand the money up front, knowing that it is much harder to collect ex post facto in flagrante delicto.
