thanks for the fashion lesson.  I haden't ever heard of the BCBG term before. Well, having grown up in the fusion area between the two dominant European lifestyles/cultures, the Latin and the Germanic/Nordic one, has its advantages. Part of my family on mother's side was French-speaking and they were very BCBG. BCBG is even in the CV of iStock. It is preppy but also snob (sine nobilitas - without nobility).
In French snobbery is about the nouveaux riches (new money, new rich people by trade/commerce, with no noble ancestors and often not too educated) that tried to out-perform the old (noble's) wealth by an overdone, expensive lifestyle and fashion habits. Those bourgeois (plain but rich citizens) have been ridiculed well in Molire's play Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme (the middle-class/plain citizen gentleman). Another term would be social climbers.
Next time I'll entertain you about the differences between emo, punk and goth fashion/lifestyles if you're not too bored. Warren needs to absorb grunge first. 
Thanks for the dissertation, enjoyed it. Having lived in Provence for some years I have a special place in my heart for the French. E

I'm still trying to understand what "grunge" is. 
Grunge:
1. US slang dirt or rubbish
2. (Music, other) a style of rock music originating in the US in the late 1980s, featuring a distorted guitar sound
3. (Clothing & Fashion) a deliberately untidy and uncoordinated fashion style
It"s the opposite of the French BCBG* or preppy.
* About the French acronym bon chic bon genre or ("good style, good class"):
BCBG is a term originating from the Lyonnais region of France where the style has tended to be more conservative and preppy compared with the more avant-garde styles of Paris. The term BCBG is not necessarily construed as a compliment, since it has connotations of elitist snobbery, particularly when applied to young women. Consequently, the joke is often made that BCBG means "beau cul, belle gueule" (or, roughly, "nice ass, beautiful face" - though gueule is more literally translated as the muzzle/outward jaw of an animal, and thus more insulting).

Idea: why not do an advanced tutorial to show the possibilities of masks, there are many.
how do you mean?
I mentioned, for example, of the possibility of showing how using a Gaussian Blur on a mask that was created from a selection can create a feathered effect for a particular adjustment layer. You could also explain how you can "unlink" a mask allowing it to be moved within the layer. For portraits I often create a B+W Adjustment Layer with mask to put around the subject, blur the mask, and move it around until it has the effect I am hoping for . . . Most people don't know that you can run a filter on a mask creating different effects, although this might not pretain to pure photography. Back to the Gaussian Blur. During the winter I had some shots with snow that had a few areas with Level 254-255. I used a temporary Threshold Adjustment Layer to isolate these areas, magic wand to make the selection, and created a Selective Color (White) Adjustment Layer with mask from that selection to dial the numbers back to around 251-252. That mask had to be blurred since using Threshold gives a very hard mask. Hope you get my point, I'm not very good putting workflow into words . . . . .

Usually I don't have a lot to say because frankly I don't have alot to say, . . . I am new to this game and enjoy hearing from more experienced artists. But from my time on this forum I think the last few weeks have been a bit boring . . .

I always wondered why people use layer masks for this. Isn't erasing at the edges of the faces much faster and easier?
That is a one way path. With masks you can go back to correct a missed detail, not to mention brush opacity and the opportunity to run a blur on the mask.
yep.. ditto. If you erased the layer and made a mistake, you could probably get it back with the history brush but once you save and open the image again, you are locked into what you erased.
Love your tutorials also, very clean and to the point. Idea: why not do an advanced tutorial to show the possibilities of masks, there are many. Right, I am too lazy so you do it. E

This is surprising. Seven sales for $3.5 each, all except one today. I can only guess that they wait for a certain period before displaying the sales.

I tried to upload some images to deposit photos to get my $.20's
First 100 or so got all accepted. From the next 300 or so, I got about 50 rejections. What I learned: Any studio background other than white (for example green, blue or yellow) gets rejected with note "improper background".
I also got a bunch rejected for "improper isolation" (those images were not meant to be isolated in any way...)
Okay, I'll just send them 150 of my boring "isolated on white" stuff and collect my $100.
I had the same problem, the exact rejection reason is: Background does not correspond to industry standard.
The image has to be clearly separated from the background. The background of the image has to contain natural colors. We recommend using black or white backgrounds such as those used in a studio. If different color background is used it has to harmonize with the picture. Please keep in mind that if necessary the background has to be easily separated from the picture by its end users.

Just a notice to those who do Raster Illustrations (fractals and the like), from my experience they have accepted very few. "No commercial value" being the reason for rejection.
Just to let you know . . . . . . . .
all and all they rejected about 100 of my raster illustrations, . . . . . oh well, some take 'em some don't.

They must be getting picky now. 23 Images I had built up in the que were just shot down.
All of them were accepted at SS. The Photographs were accepted at DT too. These ranged from Fractals to Snow Pics to some textures. Only 2 had some type of explanations of Poor Lighting, White Balance...ect. and the rest were "The image is not suitable for commercial use".
Keep trying to get the last $50 I guess. Maybe I should shoot a lot of similars since looking at their front page..they take them,
yes they are starting to get more picky now...well actually for me they were picky to begin with. There were some they rejected for compostion problems....lighting problems...that are on iStock as well as dreamstime, a couple of them being two of my big get that fromsellers on Istock...but after taking a real close look at them I could see where they are right in some cases . Some I did editing on and resubmitted and "most" of them went through the second time. I just upload a few at a time now.
Same thing here, they are not big on Raster Illustrations . . . . .

I tried to submit a payout request today but the request was refused.
Problem was that pesty "$" sign, so . . . If you are making out a payout request don't use the Dollar Sign.
I must say Contributor Support at DepositPhotos is very good, returning an answer to my stupid question within the hour.

If you are looking to see if your stuff is at ThinkStock you need to use your real full name in single quotes.
'John Smith' not "John Smith"
Not so for me.
Mine only works if I enter "firstname lastname" in double quotes (") and with TWO spaces between the names...
Thanks for the trick, I have been trying to see what . they have of mine and couldn't . . with double spaces it works, so thanks again.

You are supposed to be able to find your images by putting your name in quotes, right? If so, I don't have any images there.
I tried that and it didn't work for me. I did do a search for "chincoteague" (a little coastal town in Virginia) and found my stuff, coming from IS not StockXpert.

BME for me even with super weak numbers at StockXpert, DT, and FT. Panther came through helping alot with good IS and SS sales. Still only have around 3-400 images on most sites so results are probably not indicative of overall market.

It is a change of pace, E. I try not to take any of this too seriously. But, it seems the more I get involved ... the more I get involved. LOL
My problem at Photocase is that I have run out of old stuff that looks like something they might use. Have you started to shoot just for Photocase? Or, should I say "Just for fun with photocase in the back of your mind?"
Like you I threw everything at them that I thought they would like, most of my "art" stuff that does well on other sites (by "art" I mean photos of painted artwork) and the only thing they took is a typical Alpine landscape . . . then nothing. I have only recently migrated from painting to photography so unlike most of you I don't have years of photographic experimentation to fall back on.

I don't know if Peter is thinking of starting a new site or if it would be wise to. He is. All will depend on the pricing model though. I hope he accepts DVDs.
I have no idea what Peter is planning to do (Mr. Amateur sure has an opinion), but he is keeping a data base of possible contribitors that we know. It would be nice to have a fresh idea coming in our direction.
