« on: November 23, 2009, 13:58 »
I uploaded a batch of 31 via FTP an hour ago.  All the IPTC data read fine.

Same here, but it wasn't 31 . . . . .

Off Topic / Re: 2012
« on: November 22, 2009, 17:43 »
I saw "2012" today and I wanted to know if different countries had a different scene.

There is a moment in the movie that people see on TV what is happening in the world.  I'm not talking about the scene with Schwarzenegger, it's later.  Here it showed Rio de Janeiro, with the statue of creepers crumbling.

I wonder if they had different scenes, such as the Eiffel Tower for France or Big Ben for UK or Harbour Bridge for Australia.

In Germany they showed the Rio scene along with others throughout the world, I don't think there is but one version . . . .  hey, the whole world goes to pot . . . . .  I love fantasy!

Maybe it is of interest for some photographers:

My latest income at Polylooks: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alltageinesfotoproduzenten.de%2F2009%2F11%2F17%2Ffotografen-einnahmen-bei-microstock-bildagentur-polylooks%2F

Thanks Rob for your experiences.  It sure doesn't make one want to go through all the work to upload there.

Crestock.com / Re: For those impatient with Crestock
« on: November 14, 2009, 12:53 »
I have a hard time understanding what a "buyout" consists of???  If another agency buys Crestock, for example, what are they getting?  Haven't most of the contributors there already uploaded their images to whichever agency might have the money to buy them.
Are they buying something besides more images???
Would they be buying more customers?
I keep looking at the StockXpert situation and wondering how things got so convoluted.
Does Crestock have anything unique to offer?
Why did SS buy BigStock?  Don't they already have most of the same images?
What am I missing here?

Other than customer loyalty and market share I also don't get it . . maybe that's the point.

« on: November 14, 2009, 11:53 »
After briefly going through some of their images, it is my impression that they are interested in "artsy and young" imagery.  The stuff is not unlike some of the graphics you might see on MTV and VIVA, or in Art Galleries (not necessarily Photography Galleries) . . . . .  the low quality spontaneous imagery (from mobile phones) that is  part of the youth culture is now what some advertisers are looking for to target that age group.

I once asked a video artist friend of mine why she created her pieces using the camera on her mobile phone and not buy some good gear.   She told in no uncertain terms that THAT was the LOOK that was important.

So maybe its time to dump the Nikon and take some shots with my mobile phone . . .

Yes, isn't that a happy surprise.  If you go to Sales Statistics you will find at least some information.  I found one sale for 8.72 EURS.

I kind of like the free spirited character of that site but I just don't understand HOW it works.  If you do a search for "Architecture" you get everthing without rhyme or reason . . . .  so to speak.  I did sign up, but . . .  I guess I will wait to see what they accept and what the consequences are.

StockXpert is sticking to its plan, so we will see . . . .

Nov 9, 2009 2:59 PM | posted by seb_p

On June 15 we announced that we would be phasing out Stockxpert.com content from Photos.com and JIUnlimited. We know there has been a long wait for further details and we appreciate your patience.

On November 12, Stockxpert content will be removed from Photos.com. We are still working on the timelines for JIU and will announce that information at a later date. For the complete details please refer to the original announcement here.

It is still possible to have your images available at both Photos.com and JIU through iStockphoto. If you are already an iStockphoto contributor and have opted-in to their Partner Program, your images will become available at Photos.com on November 12. If you are not yet a contributor to iStockphoto, we would encourage you to apply. It is a great opportunity for you to increase your earnings and visibility, while engaging in one of the worlds largest and most dynamic creative communities. iStockphoto provides a wealth of information and ideas for you to grow from.

To learn more about contributing to iStockphoto, go to: http://www.istockphoto.com/sell-stock-ph ..

Once again, we want to thank you for your continued support, and we will continue to provide you with updates as they become available.

When you upload via browser I have detected no file size limits, so that may be an option for larger files. It might make sense to seperate these sizes.

Photo Critique / Re: Paranoid about noise and things
« on: November 07, 2009, 16:40 »
Another way to handel  that area with noise in Photoshop is to duplicate the flattened image layer (or create new layer and on it Stamp Visible by using CTRL-ALT-Shift-E), do a Gaussian Blur, put a black mask on the layer, and paint white on the mask to reveal that now not so noisey area. This is a good technique with dark noisey areas throughout the image, using different size/soft brushes and you can reduce the effect by changing the opacity of the layer.

I know this is old news to most people, but . . . . . . .

So, if I understand this right, the woman does the shopping and the man (did I detect a scowl?) pays the bill.  Don't know what it is like where you live, but here it doesn't work like that any more. All I can say  is . . .  Them days are gone.

US$1.25 left to achieve payout, then I'll remove my portfolio.  Of course this may mean only 2010, but...

I may have to follow you madelaide, of the last 75 submitted only 3 taken . . . .  but for me to wait for a payout will strain my patience.  It may be too little to late.

General Stock Discussion / Re: SS and BS...hmmmm
« on: October 23, 2009, 06:04 »
There is really no logic in rejections (unless of course the image is just terrible), its just what the reviewer is thinking at that particular time.  I think of it the same as cooking spaghetti . . .  throw it up on the wall and if it sticks then its ready!

Veer / Re: Veer - How are you doing so far?
« on: October 23, 2009, 03:49 »
Since early July:

222 images online, 269 views, $4.50 in royalties.

Better than BigStock Photo at least

About the same results:

237 images online, 242 views, $6.15 in royalties from 5 downloads

Crestock.com / For those impatient with Crestock
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:08 »

I was at the point of dropping out of this agency because of long waiting times  for evaluations, it has been weeks since submitting.  It seems I am not the only one . . .

From Crestock:

Please note that we are currently experiencing significant delays to our image inspections.

While we hope to return to normal as soon as possible, the waiting time the moment can unfortunately be up to four weeks.

We apologise in advance for the inconvenience and disappointment this will inevitably cause. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

PantherMedia is located in Munich, Germany.  In Europe they take their weekends seriously so don't worry . . . . . .  its a fine agency.  Plus there was a Marathon today so maybe they were all out running.

With 230 files online I have had 4 sales for a total of $5.80.  The last one dropped yesterday . . . .  a 20 cent sub.  Views are picking up which makes me hopeful . . . . . . . . . but . . . . .  didn't Buddha say  " Hope is the enemy of happiness"?

Don't know if this is a coincidence or not but BigStock has pick up a lot over the last week . . .  I hope its the influence from SS.  Anyone else seeing changes in sales for the better?

There is also the question of Stock vs Art photos, if the DT Print Venture becomes successful, I would think they would want to branch a little outside of Stock.

And Yes Lisafx, shouldn't we also get a piece of the action.
