Keywords police-ing is dependant on the knowledge of the reviewer. Much like editorial reviewing.
I give you an example . Once I submitted an editorial of a very famous ship with a history . I included the story of that person so the reviewer would know it is relevant.
The image was rejected as not having editorial interest.
Yet I still see lots of girls walking around in editorial features, with less "editorial" relevance that are being accepted.

So, if the reviewer does not know the relevance of the person or object, it really does not make a difference.

P.S.
I don't want to make a big deal about it, but for specifics, anyone interested can PM me and I will go into further detail.

It's working fine now. I just uploaded my first batch to Istock a moment ago.
Last week, there was a problem and I could not get in. But it's ok today.

Hey Brian,
So, for those of us whose portfolio have been transferred to Veers Mktplace, there is no need to do anything else, right?

Btw, my portfolio that was transferred from SV, are the buyers able to see them already?  Yes, I 've done the taxation bit, the day I got my password and transfer notice.

Adobe Stock / Re: FT rank
« on: July 27, 2009, 12:41 »
I think the submission and approval do affect our ranking. I have not been submitting too much these past couple of months, and I have lost my ranking, after having my best month a couple of months ago, which included my first Ext Lic.

Checking my past to right at this moment:
May when I had my best month :  24000  7760
   today     : 24520  8500

My port is very tiny, though ..
88 files in my port, 21 sales to date.

...I almost never shoot with a wide open aperture and stick around f11  if not higher depends on my focal length and distance from the subject...

Why , may I ask, f 11?
If you are looking to shoot at the sweet spot, stopping down to f11 is not always the sweet spot.
Usually it is 3 to  stops from wide open. You should check test reports or do your own test to find the sweet spot.

Hope you don't mind my asking and suggestion.

Bigstock.com / Re: 8 hour approval time at BigStock today!!!
« on: July 23, 2009, 08:06 »
I must be an exception or the ugly stepchild.  Mine are getting reviewed fairly rapidly but nothing like an eight-hour turnaround.

Well, I had my previous uploads approved within 4-6 hours last week. But now it seems to be a bit longer. It is after all the peak of summer for many of us, so perharps some reviewers are having summer breaks too.

Bigstock.com / Re: How are you doing at BigStock?
« on: July 23, 2009, 08:04 »
Very bad.
I'm in my 'deleting mood'. Crestock, Canstock, 123rf and videos at FT are gone. BigStock is next on my list.

wow rene, crash and burn month for you ,I suppose. Or just late Spring Cleaning?
Out of curiousity, so , which sites are you  left with to contribute?

As for sales, I made only a buck last month, but I suppose that would be like getting  4 sub dls with other sites. I guess it's summer !

@tan510jomast - I wrote support.  It worked a couple of weeks ago - I got paid within 24 hours of writing.  But I wrote this time and no response and no payment.

No Pixelbytes, I wrote not to ask for payment, but ask the same question as PuraVida asked here, ie. will they pay me the $37.70 I have earned if I  deleted my account now.
I even asked  politely if they think I should hang on, and if they honestly feel that   I will even reach payout, lol.
I hope they will give me an honest answer. I am crazy, no?

By opting out, you guys killed your files on the most downloaded sort order unfortunately.

That was the only reason I opted-in. Not for 0.30 cents! Not because I enjoy the subs! Only to be able to stay high on "most downloaded" order and compete with others who opted-in!

That's what I figured, cidepix, why my downloads went from best months ever for 2 months to zero for the next 3 months. I opted out, right after my best months, and since then got hammered with zero earnings .
My own silly mistake. I blame myself .

Anyone else having a murderous time trying to get paid by StockXpert lately?  They used to pay out regular as clockwork.  The site still says 3 days, but the last time I got paid it took over a week and only came after I contacted support to find out what was up.

Now it's been over a week again since requesting a payout and letter to support was not responded to this time.

It's really so sad.  This site is still a good performer, but Getty seem to have written them off.  Now apparently they don't even have the staff necessary to keep up with payouts?

what is going on over there ???

I agree PB, StockXpert used to be such a good site . Now I am not so sure anymore.
Perharps Stockxpert is like the step child of a new marriage between divorced parents. Once a favourite child now completely left out in the cold.
Poor baby, I miss those days when Stockxpert was so vibrant and the reviews were so there.
Now, it seems like nowhere , man !

What a way to kill a good site ! Pity !

UPDATE: btw, I wrote Support to ask about my own account too. Here's hoping I get a response. Has anyone here tried writing Support?

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace watermark.
« on: July 21, 2009, 18:14 »
I haven't voted yet as I like to see what Veer Marketplace has in mind. I would think that a watermark like Dreamstime or BigStockphoto , ie. large, transparent, and not so easy to clone off, would be perfect. And the choice to move the watermark within the frame , like 123 rf, would be wonderful.

« on: July 21, 2009, 11:25 »
lol, Especially if you were living in remote Saskatchewan where the prairie winters are long, dreary and wicked. You  needed the beard to keep your chin warm, a parka to keep your body warm, and lots of white lightning to forget it's really that frigging cold (remember Frijid Pink?). And of course,  going home with the gang to watch Monty Python after the last call at Sask Hotel. I had good memories of Saskatchewan. Good people, met the best people and made the best friends ever... long gone now ,sadly.

btw Keith,  what is this thread  about? (still confused by your title).

That is good to know. Thank you!

No problem Dook.
Although I would suggest not to simply delete your images right after 90 days. Not unless it's to be exclusive or for some vital reasons.  The reason being that with BigStock, I find that buyers do keep your image in abeyance, and they could buy them sometime down the road. I still find it myself getting a sale on my oldest image with BigStock. Something to think about.

But if you do need to request deletion. Simply list your image #s in sequence, and send a note to Liz or Joseph. That's all that's needed.

Oops. This price was before the Alamy commission so I get $135. Better than a kick in the shin. ;)

lol, for $135, I 'd gladly offer my shin to be kicked , as a bonus.
Congrats !

General Stock Discussion / Re: 10, great photography quotes
« on: July 21, 2009, 08:05 »
I'm sure I'd be happy with some of his 'not significant' ones :)

Funny, that's what I said to my boss in the 80's when he told me he had met and worked with Ansel when my boss, an engineer , was working in Polaroid.
I told him if he had kept any of the polaroids that Ansel threw away in the trashcan, he wouldn't have had to run his own photo store in Ottawa, lol.

Ansel Adams. They (ie. the Creator of geniuses)  sure don't make photographers like that too often !  8)

cool, thanks.
I always liked
Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop by ansel adams

Yes, I remember that from my very first fledgeling days of learning Ansel's Zone VI technique.
Literally worshipped everything the man said , and did.

I also remember Henri Cartier Bresson, the father of "decisive moment".

And speaking of the first thousand images are your worst, and 12 significant images per month, ...
it astounds me whenever someone tells me they could produce 1000 acceptable images in a month.

Oh well, there is Monsieur Cartier-Bresson  and Mr. Adams, and there is "the men with their incredible shooting machine"
2 different schools -
one from the MacDonald's we serve millions per day ...  ;)

As a kid we had a solar eclipse one day and we were all told to look at the eclipse by looking at the reflection in a pail of water (bucket ) . We were told that was the safe way to do it.
As you know I am sure, even using a telephoto pointing into the sun is also know to be dangerous to your eye. As it is like using a magnifying glass on your retina. You can go blind. I am sure it could also do damage to your sensor, but no proof of that. I didn't test it on an expensive camera, or even wanted to try.

Careful.  I suppose you have to weigh the cost vs the benefit of getting the shot.

42
Madeladinha, looks like you released a monster  ;D
But it's all good fun. I enjoy the funny responses you got.

My rejection reason is:

Although we find your photography excellent, you could improve this image if you had waited for the right lighting.

 ;)

BigStock is the best microstock site in terms of ease of use, but there is one thing I do not like, and if guys from BigStock are reading this, they could really help. I do not like that there is no way to delete a photo by yourself. You have to ask them to do that for you. I just do not feel comfortable with this. I understand the explanation behind this. But, still. Let us delete our own pictures. Thanks.

You know what? When I first started with  BigStock, that was my biggest complaint. But I had an email from Support that once my images have passed the 90 days, I can email them to delete without any problem. Since then, I have requested deletions of some images and each time Liz or Joseph have gracefully fulfilled my requests, and very promptly.
I don't think  you should be concerned about that, as it was never a problem for me, and it still is no longer a concern for me.

Yes, I had my latest works uploaded Friday a.m. approved really quickly. Friday late afternoon! Now that's really worth mentioning.
Hats off to BigStock reviewer working late Friday. I wish you a lovely weekend!

P.S.
BigStock is always making changes for the better and as a contributor I like that very much ! Hope this translate into more sales for me too.

I'm not too sure if I understand the whole situation. Are all the pages intact? Can you not simply copy the pages instead of trying to retrieve the ruined negative.
If it's just the negatives that are sticky, you would be better off copying the pages and retouching them with photoshop, and then digitalized them.
At least, during my apprenticeship as a photo retoucher, we used to go that route, rather than try to retrieve the ruin negatives.
In those days we didn't have digital cameras, so we had to make new 4 by 5, and the retouching job was long and difficult.
Nowadays, it's so much easier with digital and photoshop. Eventually, those negatives will go brittle and be ruined completely anyway. So making digital copies would be the best thing .

If you need to know how to set up for copying, email me. You have my email address, write me there and I will help you with it.

Before you do apply any of these cleansers, I suggest you try it on some unimportant photos or negatives first. This way, you will know if it works, or if it would damage the old emulsion, and cause more damage.
Better safe than sorry.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Basic beginers camera?
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:56 »
Thanks guys,
well I do have an offer for trade in my old cam for

canon 1000 D body only -aprox 500 USD
canon 450 D body only - aprox 745 USD
canon 500 D body only - aprox 1100 USD

best prices OTC in the whole country w/warranty online and best prices in Bucharest as pro stores go, not too much offer here
there would be some stuff on black market but no warranties

unfortunately I can't afford 500D

I do already have lenses, presumably it fit
I'm not good with all this stuff so can't figure it out what's better to start with
1000 D or 450 D

Thanks again

Instead of getting yet another Canon, why not get the Lumix GH1
the first DSLR camera that will video better than any other DSLR . 1080p 24fps , 720p 60fps, in HDTV Stereo , with continuous focusing. Lumix uses Leica lenses so it blows away the competition in that optical grounds too.  The other DSLR that can do videos even the top names cannot do even close to this bugger.

I do not subscribe to the problem of not so many lenses to select. Any professional will tell you he/she  only uses a selection not buy all 60 or 200 different lenses . So the argument that XXX camera has less lenses than Nikon and Canon or Pentax or Sony, is moot.

Why I suggested this, is that you already have all you need for still stock photos. With Lumix GH1 you have the edge over any one else to do video for stock.
Just an out of the box idea .

I'm sure that's how a lot of people in the agencies feel. They sure don't need me and my 100 or so images.

Think of a hardware store. You go there because you know you can get that weird bolt or nut to repair the lawn mower. Once in a while, you buy a big ticket item that makes money for the store. But they need all those money-losing, oddball little parts that take up precious shelf space, to keep you coming in year after year.

I better explain myself in case Fotolia thinks I have been saying bad things against them. I don't want my comments  being misinterpreted. *touch wood !*

I was not pointing a finger at  Fotolia or any agencies .That ( not caring a hoot about the small ones) was the interpretation in reference to the music industry.
What I mean is their bread and butter is the top layer that brought in revenue... .
Further to your analogy,  nuts and bolts maybe, but even in a hardware store, when the big ticket sales come in, the nuts and bolts are pushed away to make room, because "they are not selling enough".

Y'know, we find the same in our own business dealing as well eg. How your bank  manager gives you preferential treatment and someone else gets less.  It's the reality , that's what we call  pecking order .

I get great isolation with only 3 lights... I built my studio based on this tutorial: http://www.zarias.com/?p=71

All 3 lights are 150ws at full power.

Example:

That's very well done. The use of gobo is often neglected. This is how you get those nice skin tone and the lovely clean separations, due to lack of light spill.
Congratulations. Love the skin tones of the model. Your strobe tubes must be well used to have gotten rid of the sickening blue tint that plague new studio lights before burning in. Well done.
