Shutterstock.com / Reporting Copyright Violation
« on: September 12, 2019, 15:44 »
Does anyone have any experience with reporting copyright violation to Shutterstock? Another contributor made a vector image of one of my most popular illustrations, it was obviously copied or traced, and I want the image removed. I looked up the procedure for reporting copyright violation to Shutterstock and found this: https://www.shutterstock.com/terms/dmca-notice. It looks like a pretty long and intensive process. I don't want to sue the person, I just want the copied image removed. Does anyone know if there is a simpler way of doing that? I would like to just provide the image ID's and the contributor's name, and links to the offending image and my image, but that's not enough, according to what I read. I'm tempted to just say to hell with it and let the person get away with it. Any thoughts?

Adobe Stock / Locked out of my account
« on: February 19, 2019, 19:44 »
I went to Adobe Stock to check my downloads and discovered my account is locked. All I got was this message "Your account has a validation status issue. You should contact us." That's it. No explanation, no contact person, no phone number I could call, nothing. I have over $700 sitting in my account. I strongly suspect this happened because I had to shut down the email that was associated with my account. They may have attempted to send me an email and it got bounced back - so they respond to this by shutting down my account! I sent them a message explaining the situation and gave them my other (functioning) email address. It'll probably be straightened out eventually, but I am upset with they way they dealt with situation, it just seems very thoughtless and inconsiderate to me.

Adobe Stock / Problem with Dashboard Changes
« on: January 22, 2019, 21:57 »
Adobe Stock recently changed the contributor dashboard in such a way that I can't see what images are selling on any given day. The only information I can find for daily downloads is the number of downloads for each day, but there is no way of finding out WHICH images sold on any particular day. This leaves me with no way of seeing what images are trending, I feel like I'm reduced to groping around in the dark. Has anyone found a way to get this info? I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this.

Is anyone creating new Christmas images? I can't see any point to it - they'll just get lost among the millions of Christmas images the micros have in their collections already. I started on an image and I wondered why I bother. Not being negative, just being practical.

Shutterstock.com / Can't get anything into my portfolio
« on: January 17, 2017, 16:37 »
I can't get anything into my portfolio! First I had 3 size rejections for images that fit the size requirements, later I found out it was a known glitch. So I waited a few days for the dust to settle and submitted them again, and this time they were rejected for keywords. I'm very careful with keywords; in the past keyword rejections were very rare, now it looks like they are starting to be a regular thing. I don't know what keywords were the problem, or if this is yet another glitch. I don't know if there is any point in re-uploading, or uploading any new images for that matter. SS is a mess at this point, and I'm baffled.

Shutterstock.com / Brand new rejection reason
« on: May 04, 2016, 20:22 »
I just received a rejection from SS that I have never seen before, here it is:
3D Title/Keywords Requirement -- 3D images require the phrase "3D illustration" or "3D rendering" in the title and keywords.

Now the 3d render I used underwent extensive processing and doesn't look anything like a 3d render in the final image. I usually put '3D render' in the keywords for any 3d render I upload, but for this image I didn't because it wouldn't appeal to someone searching for 3D content.  I guess I'll have to do it from now on for any image that uses any 3d content at all. BUT they also want '3d render' in the TITLE as well -  What the h*ll? I swear they've got someone on the payroll whose sole responsibility to find new ways to drive us all nuts.

Interesting, the system wouldn't allow me to use the alternative word for Hades, so I had to spell it h*ll. Seriously? What the h*ll!

Shutterstock.com / .38 for an SOD??
« on: April 03, 2016, 20:50 »
I just got a .38 SOD, that has never happened before. And my EL's, which used to be $28 now bring in only $25.36. They're screwing us over good.

Dreamstime.com / DT has died for me
« on: February 17, 2016, 21:15 »
I have not had any downloads in the past 3 days at DT. That NEVER happens, whatever they did to the search algorithm completely killed my port. I've been with them since 2004 and it's never been this bad.

Image Sleuth / Unnown site with my vector images
« on: September 17, 2015, 15:43 »
Does anyone know anything about this site: http://www.vectorhq.com/premium/artist/2423
They have a few of my vectors and I've never heard of them. Is this a partner site for some known agency? Or are they stealing images?

I uploaded a couple of autumn landscape photos on 6 micro sites. They looked fine on SS and DT, but they looked so bad on 123, FT, and CS, that I deleted them. It seemed they had lost reds and yellows when viewed on those sites. They were edited in Lightroom 5, I usually edit them in Photoshop, could this be the problem?

DepositPhotos / DP has really screwed up my taxes
« on: April 11, 2014, 13:18 »
Is anyone (US filers) having a problem with their 1099 form from DP? The 1099 form I received from them says I earned $1050 from DP during 2013. I added up all the monthly totals, and it came to $618! I sent them a support message on March 30, but received no reply, so I called them a couple of days ago, and was told they need time to look into it. Has this happened to anyone else? It's causing a big tax headache for me, and I don't get it straightened out, I could end up paying income tax on $400 I never received!

Has anyone heard of GoGraph?  I just discovered my images are being sold there without my knowledge or consent. A medium size image costs $40 US!!!  Check and see if yours are there http://www.gograph.com/

Shutterstock.com / Bad Week
« on: August 23, 2013, 18:28 »
I've seen a drop of around 50% in my Shutterstock earnings (except for one EL) over the past week, is anyone else seeing this pattern? It's been like a week of Sundays for me at SS. I'm at the 38 cent royalty level, which makes me wonder if they changed the search algorithm to favor contributors with a lower royalty rate. It's really depressing to be happening right before the best months for downloads. I hope I'm just being paranoid...

StockFresh / Lightroom applied keywords don't show up
« on: April 15, 2013, 21:00 »
I'm having a problem at SF with images that I keyworded in Lightroom. When I import them, the keywords aren't there. All of the images that I keyworded in Photoshop import just fine, it's only the Lightroom images that lose the keywords. I don't recall having this problem on any other site. I've only got around half of my portfolio uploaded there because of this problem, does anyone know of a workaround?

Bigstock.com / Who is getting 27 subs? Are you staying?
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:34 »
I've been with Bigstock since 2005, and if the second half of this month is similar to the first, I'll be seeing my lowest monthly BigStock earnings since 2006. Most of my downloads are 27 subs, so tell me, how is this any better that StinkStock? Is there an option to deactivate your portfolio on BS, or do you have to close your account altogether?
I'm burning mad about the injustice of being consigned to this 27 ghetto, while the 'Bridge to Bigstock' people enjoy 38 subs. I've been with SS and BS since 2005, and people who came along much later than I have get to enjoy much higher earnings. If that isn't injustice, I don't know what is! I know I'm not alone here, and I was wondering what others stuck in the 27 ghetto have already done or plan on doing.

Illustration - General / Vector colors change after uploading
« on: March 12, 2013, 20:39 »
I've run into a weird color problem with one of my vectors. The colors looked good to me in Illustrator both before and after I converted the vector image to jpg. Then I saw them online after they were accepted, and discovered that the colors looked way over-saturated. I uploaded the jpg to my website for a test and discovered the same over-saturated colors there, too. I don't understand it, the colors looked fine in Photoshop and in Windows Explorer. It was only after uploading them that the color change occurred. Oddly enough, the colors look fine on CanStock but none of the other agencies. What am I missing here? Does anyone have any idea why it happened and how I can prevent the problem in the future? Thanks

Shutterstock.com / Outlines of states are rejected?
« on: March 06, 2013, 14:45 »
The vector of this image rejected on SS:
http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-photography-usa-prison-capital-world-image29327312
The first rejection was due to a technical problem, which I corrected and resubmitted. Then it was rejected a second time - the reason given was that "Overall outline of states is unacceptable (specifically East coast)"
How can that be? Why was this problem not mentioned in the first rejection? Could this possibly be a mistake?
The issue this illustration refers to is very important to me, so I'm bummed about it not making it into the collection. It seems that it's become more difficult to get vectors accepted these days; I have an easier time getting raster illustrations accepted. For iStock the opposite was true, but I don't upload there anymore.

General Stock Discussion / submitting scanned artwork (my own)
« on: December 08, 2012, 14:27 »
I have started to upload vectorized versions of my old pen and ink drawings to the mircos. Some of the agencies rejected them, telling me I need a property release. I filled out and uploaded property releases to the sites that asked for them, and this solved the problem for all of the sites except SS, which rejected them a second time.  SS is insisting that I provide a 'source' image along with the property release.  Communication is very slow, it takes a week to get their rejection, then resubmit, another week passes, another rejection ect, ect...

Here's a sample:
http://www.canstockphoto.com/playful-calico-kitten-11791127.html
Has anyone had much experience submitting scans and photos of their own non-digital artwork? By 'source image' do they mean the preliminary sketches? Or do they mean I must provide any and all reference photos I may have used? Or do they want to see the original scans? They don't ask for property releases or source images for my vectors, many of which are based on my 3d renders. I also ran into this problem with a scan of a small watercolor painting of mine. Much of this artwork was done in the 80's and early 90's, before I went digital. Whatever preliminary sketches I created are long gone. I thought submitting some of my 'oldies' was a good idea, but now I wonder... Does anyone have experience with uploading scans and photos of your own non-digital artwork?

General Stock Discussion / Selling all rights to an image
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:14 »
I've been contacted by someone who is interested in buying all the rights to one of my images. It's a popular image, but not one of my best sellers. They want to print it on a variety of items such as notebooks, pens, cups, postcards, ect. Here's the image: http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?gallery_id=2423#id=5204542
I have no idea what to charge for it, if I do decide to sell it. Even though it's not a top seller, it's one of my favorite images, and I'm reluctant to let it go. Any ideas what I should charge if I sell it?

DepositPhotos / Very Disappointed
« on: August 11, 2012, 13:39 »
I'm very disappointed with DepositPhotos, most of my sales are subs for paltry $.30 a download, with very few sales and no sign of improvement. I had hopes my pay rate would increase, but it appears that no progress is possible. I should have progressed to the bronze level at 500 downloads, yet I'm now at over 600 downloads and still at the bottom level. I've tried contacting them at their site twice to ask what the holdup is, but I've received no response. I'm seriously considering taking my portfolio down, I wouldn't miss the money, because my earnings are so low there that the loss of income would be insignificant. If this problem isn't corrected soon, goodbye DP. Really, what incentive do I have to stay?

iStockPhoto.com / Partner Program earnings
« on: June 24, 2012, 17:44 »
IS placed several pages of my illustrations on Thinkstock, which I did not want, but had no choice in the matter. That was several months ago, yet I have no idea what those images may have earned, since no Partner Program earnings are indicated on my IS earnings page. I looked but couldn't find anything regarding contributor earnings on Thinkstock. How do you go about checking on your PP earnings?

I found some of my images on this site:
http://phototimes.ru/image/the-forgotten-13171535/
They have the Dreamstime watermark. Does anyone know if this is a DT partner or an illicit site? I can't identify the language used...
