No I don't have Grease Monkey installed, never used it. Can someone post a link? Thanks.

The problem is, I have the script, I just don't know how to install it. In the past, I've always installed add-ons by going to Firefox's add-on page, picking out the add-ons I wanted,  and then installing them with just one or two mouse clicks. But this is different, I don't know where or how to install the script. It's probably very simple, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I just double clicked and the install happened automatically.  If that happened, then you go to your Istock My Uploads page and at the top there's a list of things you can display.  The last of that list is "my uploads options"  If you click that, you get a list with check boxes.  The last one should say "deactivate".  If you click that and then refresh, you should see a column on the right hand side that lets you delete each file.  Let me know if that doesn't work and I or somebody else will try to help out more :)

BTW, you have to have Greasemonkey installed.  do you?

I know this has probably been covered before at least once, but I can't find the info - could someone tell me how to install Sean's Deactivation script?

Use Firefox, install GreaseMonkey (add-on), install: http://digitalplanetdesign.com/scripts/IS_myUploads_fixes.user.js

I've deactivated 9 files so far...

I'm ready to start deactivating, but I have a couple of questions first.  If you deactivate images from IS, are they deactivated on Thinkstock as well, or will it take IS/Getty forever to get around to deactivating them on TS? I mean if the images remain available on TS for a long time after deactivation, then what will we have accomplished by mass deactivation? Also, I seem to remember someone on this forum saying that if you deactivate images older than 1 1/2 years then they must be reinspected before being reactivated, is that true?

Allsa, bad new I'm afraid :
Deactivated images will probably/hopefully/eventually be deleted on Thinkstock (estimated 2 months later).  There are known cases where TS did not delete the files until after an e-mail request by the contributor.
If you deactivate old images (we think older than 18 months), yes they have to be reinspected.  Younger files can be reactivated without reinspection.

Most of us have 2 reasons to deativate :  (1) make a point, let Istock/Getty/Google/theWorld know and (2) protect our files the only way we can, even if it's with 2 months delay.
Are you joining us?

Problem is, I've uploaded very little since Sept 2011, which means that for me deactivating would be almost the same as deleting, since the vast majority of my deactivated files would have to be reinspected. Are most people deactivating only those files uploaded within the past year and a half?

I realize I've entered this discussion rather late and I'm behind the loop here, and so my questions may seem redundant, but I would appreciate it if someone would take a moment to answer them anyway. I have a port of about 1000 images on IS and want to participate in deactivation day, but I just need a couple of questions answered first.

General Stock Discussion / Re: submitting scanned artwork (my own)
« on: December 09, 2012, 00:07 »
Thanks for some good suggestions, the sites have some general info on property releases, but I haven't come across much on scanned non-digital artwork. There is no consistency from site to site, so a lot of it is trial and error, learning from rejections. But that's painfully slow.  I've got a lot of non-digital artwork I could upload, I don't know if it will sell, or if it's worth all the trouble to learn what each site wants, but it's worth a try.  So far SS is the strictest; I didn't upload any scans to IS. I sent a site message to SS admin, asking what they meant when they asked for a 'source image', I'll let you know what they say.

General Stock Discussion / submitting scanned artwork (my own)
« on: December 08, 2012, 14:27 »
I have started to upload vectorized versions of my old pen and ink drawings to the mircos. Some of the agencies rejected them, telling me I need a property release. I filled out and uploaded property releases to the sites that asked for them, and this solved the problem for all of the sites except SS, which rejected them a second time.  SS is insisting that I provide a 'source' image along with the property release.  Communication is very slow, it takes a week to get their rejection, then resubmit, another week passes, another rejection ect, ect...

Here's a sample:
http://www.canstockphoto.com/playful-calico-kitten-11791127.html
Has anyone had much experience submitting scans and photos of their own non-digital artwork? By 'source image' do they mean the preliminary sketches? Or do they mean I must provide any and all reference photos I may have used? Or do they want to see the original scans? They don't ask for property releases or source images for my vectors, many of which are based on my 3d renders. I also ran into this problem with a scan of a small watercolor painting of mine. Much of this artwork was done in the 80's and early 90's, before I went digital. Whatever preliminary sketches I created are long gone. I thought submitting some of my 'oldies' was a good idea, but now I wonder... Does anyone have experience with uploading scans and photos of your own non-digital artwork?

General Stock Discussion / Selling all rights to an image
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:14 »
I've been contacted by someone who is interested in buying all the rights to one of my images. It's a popular image, but not one of my best sellers. They want to print it on a variety of items such as notebooks, pens, cups, postcards, ect. Here's the image: http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?gallery_id=2423#id=5204542
I have no idea what to charge for it, if I do decide to sell it. Even though it's not a top seller, it's one of my favorite images, and I'm reluctant to let it go. Any ideas what I should charge if I sell it?

137
Does it do anything Photoshop can't do? It seems closer to Corel Painter.  I'd buy and use Painter but it's too slow so I use Photoshop's painting tools instead.

Adobe Stock / Re: Is Fotolia Tanking for anyone else?
« on: October 11, 2012, 11:55 »
Same here, I'm a gold contributor and it's been a slow steady decline in monthly earnings for me, too. At one time my ranking was in the 100 - 200 range. Now I'm at 1600. Depressing.

139
I always carefully check over images for visible polygons, and correct the edges in Photoshop before uploading. I still got an occasional  'visible polygons' rejection from IS. I admire a dedication to quality, but with IS it does tend to get absurdly excessive at times.

140
Thanks for the heads up, I just contacted them and asked to have my images removed from the PP, and also to remove the EL option.

DepositPhotos / Re: Very Disappointed
« on: August 11, 2012, 15:22 »
I'm very disappointed with DepositPhotos, most of my sales are subs for paltry $.30 a download, with very few sales and no sign of improvement. I had hopes my pay rate would increase, but it appears that no progress is possible. I should have progressed to the bronze level at 500 downloads, yet I'm now at over 600 downloads and still at the bottom level. I've tried contacting them at their site twice to ask what the holdup is, but I've received no response. I'm seriously considering taking my portfolio down, I wouldn't miss the money, because my earnings are so low there that the loss of income would be insignificant. If this problem isn't corrected soon, goodbye DP. Really, what incentive do I have to stay?

hang in there! Rome wasnt built in a day or two. DP, have gone quickly to the top, and my experience with DP so far is good.

^ Agree with Lagereek.  I have about 2700 images there and got two EL's last month and made almost as much as BS and 123.  They are indeed very cyclic but I think they are becoming more of a force.  But like Lagereek said, be patient.  Give it time.  Wait for some of these buyouts/acquisitions/consolidations to happen.  That can be a game changer for some of the agencies.  Also you might consider that if an agency that you are not on purchases DP, for example, you may get your port mirrored on their site before they shut down DP....who knows. It's worth waiting in my opinion.  How big is your port and what kind of content do you shoot?

I'm an illustrator, mostly 3D renders, just a few vectors. My port on DP is at around 1000 because I stopped uploading to DP (in frustration) at the beginning of May this year. I'll probably leave the portfolio in place since you and others are reporting good returns, but I'm reluctant to resume uploading at this point.

I think only credit sales count as a sale and subs are only a portion of a sale. So your sales may be at 600 but by DP counting you're only at 375 or the like. I might be confused with another agency but I think I'm in a similar position.

I know that it takes 4 subs downloads to add up to one 'real' download at Fotolia, but I'm not sure if DP does the same. If DP does the same that could explain why I'm stuck at the bottom after 600 downloads, since most of those downloads were subs. I just would like DP to get back to me and let me know what's going on.

Loss of control of my illustrations was the clincher for me. I left my portfolio on IS, but stopped uploading to them on Sept 28. I couldn't bring myself to tear down the portfolio I built (and the earnings from it), but I decided to stop contributing anything more to them. Sort of a middle of the road approach. I have a mountain of medical bills to pay, so I can't afford to stop the IS earnings flow altogether.

You can see a summary of PP sales for each image by clicking on "partner program" under "my uploads" on the left of your profile page

I checked and I could see my Partner program download numbers for each image, but I still can't find out any info on how much money I've earned in the PP. Are PP earnings paid out separately, or are they included in the total of my IS earnings?

they are in the total of your IS earnings, on the usual charts with green color

The charts show blue (IS) and yellow (EL), but I've never seen any green (PP) on the earnings bar graph. Maybe it's some sort of error I need to contact IS about.

IS placed several pages of my illustrations on Thinkstock, which I did not want, but had no choice in the matter. That was several months ago, yet I have no idea what those images may have earned, since no Partner Program earnings are indicated on my IS earnings page. I looked but couldn't find anything regarding contributor earnings on Thinkstock. How do you go about checking on your PP earnings?

I am guilty.  I am with them and nothing pisses me off more than a broken promise of them saying they would promote my port if I signed up with them.  Now, I never believed them, but I took the chance anyhow.  I am in that zone in which I get a lot of 30 cent downloads but not much of anything else.  Personally, DP and PD are two really loosey goosey sites.  I drank the cool aid.

+1
The vast majority of my sales are 30 cent downloads, too. I stopped uploading a few weeks ago, the payout is just too low.

Mine has been under 30 in the good old days but now stands at around 800 !!!!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain.  Same boat here.

Wow, now I really see none of you are exaggerating :o

Yep.  I used to have weekly rankings below 30.  Sometimes as low as 13.  When I posted here in April it had dropped to 280.  Now it's over 450.  Imagine that - overall rank of 34, and weekly rank of 450.  Something seriously wrong here.

My FT earnings for May were literally 1/3 of what they had been a couple of years ago, and 1/2 of what they were at the beginning of the year.

Sounds a lot like my story -- at one point my rank stayed steady in the 100's, now it ranges between 600 - 2000.
