Veer / Re: Veer? what are they doing??
« on: September 14, 2010, 10:00 »
Dark Angel,
I think I know the answer - yes, you can. There's no image lock-in at Veer. You're free to delete your port anytime you want to.
But just to make sure, will you wait a couple of hours for an official reply?
I don't want to give you the wrong information :)

Don't overlook Veer, give them a try. If you can :)
It's a special agency with generous commissions and increasing sales.
They're part of Corbis, giants of the industry, but unlike Getty, they're fair.
Well worth the effort.

But there's a problem that you should know of. Right now inspection times can be very long. Veer is aware of this, they're training new inspectors and working to improve it.
It will get better, I'm sure :)

Thank you so much!! :)

Yes, the site made an awesome first impression and I'd like to give it a chance :)

It appears I'll have enough time to wait a couple of hours, since I need to upload the 10 image - application first :)

Quick OT question before I start uploading: is it possible to disable single images at any time or are they locked for a certain time like they are at Dreamstime for instance?

Thanks very much!  :)

how do you know, Yuri won't be able to maintain the 20%?
Who said he ever had just 20%?  :P

Ya think?  ;D

can anyone tell my why they want this ITIN? Shutterstock doesn't?

34
ok, I dont't :D But then again, I don't have so many level 5 and 4 images. But lots of level 2s and 3s

35
Yes and before you panic, think about this:

There is a good chance it will look like this:

exclusive images are more expensive -> non exclusive images get more sales  ;)

I'm thinking of what happens on DT. Higher level images are more expensive so some buyers prefer level 1 images. This is why the most downloaded image on DT has "just" 700 downloads which is not much compared to istocks numbers. This means that a few dollar difference IS important to buyers which is sort of sad, considering the image quality they get and the low prices... but nevertheless...

Must be fake somehow. There were so many people promising not to upload. And I'm sure changing their mind would have taken longer! Well at least I kept my promise. I did not upload!

At least the numbers look a little odd considering what happened...

37
Well, i phoned up the IRS today and asked them if instead of a notarised and apostilled passport they would instead accept vast amounts of incredulity.

No go, I'm afraid. And i was on the phone for hours, being totally charming... : (

I think the IRS require evidence that we are who we say we are; just in case we're no good darn cheaters trying to pretend to be british, or french, or some other foreigner when we're really not.

The story so far is that there is no way out of it. But stories have changed before..... : )

x

As far as I remember I had to upload a copy of my passport when registering to Shutterstock ;)

Photo Critique / Re: How are these landscapes?
« on: June 02, 2009, 13:51 »
Wow, every single image you posted is simply gorgeous! Well, at least to my mind :) Great lightning and colors! Are these HDRs? Cannot imagine why these were rejected. Accept perhaps if you uploaded them together as an application for some agency. They like diversity, so 3 or 10 landscape images(no matter how great) will perhaps not be sufficient? Well this is just a guess. I wouldn't reject them except they were full of artifacts etc :)

I'm not an expert on these things. Can somebody explain, why someone in an 0%-treaty-country has to do this paperwork? I do not see the point yet.  ???

I find it very interesting how the only people whining like babies about this are the people with extremely small portfolios.  And if I was Jon, I would remove your portfolios in a second.

I don't see any of the large portfolios complaining about this.  And they have the most to lose financially from this.  Why is that?  Where is the complaining from the top portfolios in the world (Mr. Arcurs, or Ms. Pargeter, or Andresr, etc. etc.)?  They stand to lose large sums of money from all of this.  Yet are they moaning about this on the forums?

This topic seems to have become an issue about U.S. politics (and should probably be moved as such to the ranting forums).  Well, let me tell you what the U.S. has done for most of you.  We have saved your butts from two World Wars.  Most of you would be living under a flag from Nazi Germany or the Land of the Rising Sun if it wasn't for the U.S.

You bitch and moan about the U.S. all the time, yet they are the ones that "keep the peace" around the world.  They could have conquered the world ten times over already, yet they are content with their small slice of the world over the pond.

Many of you complain about double taxation, yet many of your counties use a VAT system, which is the epitome of double (and triple and quadruple) taxation.

Why don't you people just get a life!

did you understand this is not about war, but about taxes? ;)

And it does not surprise me at all that it harms small contributors the most! When you make 30 dollar per month since you do this as hobby and then have to decide whether to spend a few hundred Dollars to get an ITIN or accept losing 30% of those 30 dollar per month. What would you do?

First of all: never give up, never surrender ;)
first image: a little soft, perhaps due to noise reduction. And as others mentioned before: I don't see any commercial value in it and istock probably didn't either.
second image: good composition, dog is centered, nice blurred background. The eyes of the dog look a little disturbing to me :D Sorry I can't help it ;) Don't know why this got rejected, perhaps it is just that they already have thousands of dogs in their database and pets are on their instant-reject-list as are flowers btw.
third image: nice. Perhaps it would have been better to have the entire plane in the image. Cropping maybe makes the image look nicer somehow but this is not art but stock photography. I had a cropped airplane rejected because of that. If you have a photo of an entire plane a buyer can decide on his own what part he wants and this maximizes the usability of your image.

istock has a nice critics forum where you can post your next-attempt-images before uploading them there. The users there are all very kind and will try to help you getting approved :)
