« on: December 09, 2008, 01:02 »
No changes for me is seems it is unfortunately rather similar to the bad November...
But there is a thing that worries me much more: I have a disastrous acceptation rateover the last 15 dyas. 10 % or so. This has never happends before and is far below my average...despite I limit the keywords to minimum and use te same selection /control as before...this said it could be just bad luck over a given period...

..I think it would be fair that IS makes it clear what is their policy with non exclusives....
Jean

It is pretty clear when we look at the search results.
Yes it is with today's best match, this may change or not.
The best match effect today enlarges the gap between exclusivity and non exclusivity. In such a way that the two groups are starting to be unfriendly with each other. Some of my CN that are exclusives are not reacting anymore to contacts or have even expressed the wish not to be in my CN despite they have been initialy taking the initaitive to invite me. On the other side, some non exclusives are getting a bit agressive with exclusive. I regret the time where those groups were just part of the same community.
A clear information on the policy would make things easier for all, clearify what should be our expectations and avoid this frustration many of us non exclusive have for the time......

Right now sales mostly depend on wherever you are exclusive to IS or not.
Your sales depend mostly on the fact your images have a use to a buyer and  has nothing to do if your exclusive or not.

Sorry but what is your basis to say that...?
Statistics on exclusive sales shows increase and staristics on non exclusive show decrease. Obviously exclusivity is a parameter that has an influence......

Non exclusive and down......actually I will sell about 180 file this month: the same number as I did after 2 months at IS in August.......2005.
Sadly I like IS..I can understand there is a commercial strategy behind this and I accept it, but..I think it would be fair that IS makes it clear what is their policy with non exclusives....

I dont think it is fair to take one picture of one perticular photographer and bring it in such a bad light to make a statement. I'm not exclusive and as such I  feel not well treated at IS for the time, but I dont think that we (non exclusive) shall use specific potographers or pictures to make our point. By the way we all have pictures accepted that we may not be proud of. I have many, sometimes they even generate sales....
I respect non exclusive and exclusive photographers in the same way. I just wish IS would make the rules more fair to everybody or at least make clear what rules apply for non exlusives.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How's Your Month Shaping Up?
« on: November 11, 2008, 15:01 »
If I multiply the number of files sold so far after 11 days by 3 to get an idea of my month result, I will end with about 150 sales, this is the worse result since august 2005 (3 months after having joined IS).
In March 2007 I was  up to 750 Dl/month. It has declined since a a regular pace, despite downloading as before.
What can I say more.....there must be a life after IS as well.....

Thank you leaf, I appreciate your work and it is very useful to know a bit about the background of the people when following a discussion. Sorry my remarks were a bit short and I just wanted to say it was not a critisism. Thank you for work in general as well !

I would say this is  saying something about the distance rather than the speed... I have driven a long dist on IS, but my speed is now extemely low...

Yes , you will improve the lifetime of your batteries if you use them until there is no electricity anymore before recharging them. For cards I dont think that matter very much...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS Changes best match Algorithm Again!
« on: October 25, 2008, 12:28 »
I'm an independent and this last change seems to be for the better. Yesterday was my best day this month and today is shaping up well.

the 21 october was also my best day this month (almost matching a normal day for october 2006- the year for which sales at IS starts to decline for me), unfortunately the day after  and following were again looking much more my present  IS standard (30% to 40 % of 2006 sales). I have no clue if the fact I'm not exclusive has a role to play here, but according what I read it has. I think that exlcusive shall be rewarded with higher % share of the pictures sales but exclusivity should not affect best match as best match is suposed to help the buyer to finfd pictures, in that regard exclusive/ non exclusive is  not  relevant at all.

IS was alwyas my prefered site and the top one for sales, now has became number 3 only in sales and I still feel pushed out...but  still like the place....but getting frustrated of this  more and more....

Looking at the number of sales it doesnt seems to be a very good business....

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do.

Are you saying that you want to submit a 3D rendered image and try to see if it will pass for a real human model?  That is, you won't tell the inspectors that it is a rendered image, and you want to see if it will be accepted as a human model and approved?

If so, are you planning on submitting a Model Release?  If so who will sign it?  You?

Or are you planning on telling the inspectors that it is a 3D rendered model and see if it is approved?

I searched IS for 3D rendered images of humans and found only two images:

General Stock Discussion / Re: anyone tried ifp3 ?
« on: October 22, 2008, 12:14 »
I have website for selling picture with ifp3  http://www.energypicturesonline.com/
They are quite reactive to questions and helpful team. They have been improving the tool with quite a lot of new features, however the main disadvantages I have with them is
1) It is programmed with  flash, I dont like it and it is making it longer for user to use the site
2) There is no direct download possibility
If those points are not a problem for you is is a nice reasonable solution to show your pictures if you are not absolutely willing to sell them......
I'm also experimenting with anoter software here:
http://www.rudersdalfoto.dk/
This is much more sale oriented and I can warmly recommend it if you want to sell pictures online.

I'm  between 300 and 400, but have a very low DL/picture, i wonder if this has an influence on best match, does it pay to delete unsold pictures??
any experience about doing that? thnank you for sharing.

I buy a new body every 3 years or so and always have 2 bodies and complementary ones. FF 5 D and 40 D for the time. 40D with tele and 5D for shorter & wide angle. Will  replace 5 D next year after the insurance expire. Go often out with 2 bodies without needing changing lens.
Have been once in trouble with the 2 bodies failure in the same time!!!

Jean, I'm not sure being exclusive is the answer. I've seen posts by plenty of high volume exclusives who have seen a big drop.

Thanks Paul, it is a pity than.... in a way feel better to know this is not an non exlusive problem...and hope IS team will fix this pb soon!

I had 9 dls at IS yesterday.  A year ago my average was about 40 a day and a good day was 60 to 80.  I always used to check my stats constantly at IS now I hardly bother.  They have fallen behind SS, DT and FT and last month StockXpert caught up. I used to really love IS and was seriously thinking about going exclusive but I am so dissapointed. Images that are getting downloaded 100's of times at other sites are almost impossible to find at IS :(

Agreed.

I have seen slowdown across several sites this month (not DT or SS) but the effect of images dropping out of sight is almost exclusively istock.  I sell a good mix of new and older images on other sites.  Even those from 2005 and 2006 still sell elsewhere but almost never on istock.

When images have such a short shelf life at IS it is a big disincentive to exclusivity.

I'm exactly in the same situation. Had 500 to 600 dowloads in october 2006, same in 2007.
Seems that I will have no more than 150 this month....have always liked istock and  I have no complain about keywording rejection, max dowload etc...but I feel like as IS non exclusive, I'm getting slowly pushed out, which I regret very much. It might be an impression only as more and more contributors are joining, but when looking at the threads, it seems to me that those contributors having significant decreases in sales are Non Exclusive with more that 2000 pictures or so....

IS we love you, why dont you love us!!!!!

Adobe Stock / Re: sales on FT since search engine change?
« on: May 12, 2008, 14:45 »
I have a quite normal sale rate at FT. Globally FT is doing better than IS or SS. Keep in mind that many buyers are European and we have a lot of extra free days. This means that for the time,  buyers are rather enjoying their free time instead of buying our pictures.
Despite the fact I'm rather happy with FT, I'm going down in the ranking, being presently nr 83 but still going down since 1 year or so...so some of us must be very happy with FT......

I know nothing in vectors, but it came to my mind when reading your post that it might be possible to use your pictures to create vectors?
By the way can you tell how you learned to make vectors, is there any tutorial on the net somewhere?
Thanks in advance!
