When the image installs and page is generated, comments are hardwired as on. However you can turn them off. I'll make a way to alter with next version, monday or tuesday.

For anyone who is concerned - comments are good for SEO in that it adds to the page. Especially if you get some picture that for some strange reason goes viral---your gonna want that cowbell. ...people able to comment.

But the comments are ugly right now. You want them styled? Or you just don't like comments? Let me know.

Over-all though I'll give more control over that.

Leo in this case it would be nice to have the comments filtered from spams if this is possible.....

Thank you for this information Cathy, very appreciated.

It won't happen unless you try to change your username and password the wrong way! If you want to make those stronger, go to your phpadmin panel at your hosting company and make the changes. If you need help, ask them so you don't do the wrong thing, like I did.

I've noticed on my other wp site that there are a lot of spammers who leave irrelevant comments touting their sites

Me too, but it doest look like spam, but like comments that have been wrongly ending in my site....

This is really frightening...I hope you will find a way to recover the pictures edited.
I have now almost 600 online edited one by one and would be desperate if this happens at this stage.

I was just about to comment that there are no comment boxes on my site on the latest release - but i always go through the Publish to drafts step.

Steve

yeap I knew there was something like that since not many people complained about it.. I turned the box "off" by choosing -user must be logged in to comment

so when user is NOT logged in, they see: "Leave a comment" link
and when logged in, they see the "comment box"

but definitely can not be turned off completely, if you published the images right away..

I have the same issue, can't turn off the comments. Maybe a good idea for the theme to disable to comments on the - image page - irrespective of settings on the WP-dashboard, the theme should look as much like a Stock site as possible.

I agree, I dont need people to leave comment on the site or pictures
jean

Jean, your front page has a comment box which will probably draw a lot of comments in.  Turn off/disable  comments in all your "PAGES" as well as everything else you can find.   In  Settings, Discussion  I select that everthing must be modified before it appears, if an email address is being used regularly I  stick in in the bottom box  of that page

Thank you Tinny, I have now changed things in the setting + the front page; I can still see the comment option there ... I must be doing something wrong still....

I have got almost 100 comments in the last 2 days and they are comiing still more.
Those are on different pages, but mostly photo and have nothing to do with my site.

For exemple the last one says

Very great post. I just stumbled upon your weblog and wanted to say that I
have truly enjoyed browsing your blog posts.
In any case Ill be subscribing on your feed and Im hoping you write once more very
 soon!
"

They altogether seems to be related to the same blog and for a reason end to my site www.stockabily.com

Are some of you experiencing the same? What to do to avoid this?
thnks for any insight...

I have also joined and I'm impressed by what Leo has done!
My site is
http://stockabily.com
I have now about 300 pictures there and target to have 7000 within the next 6/8 weeks.
I'm fighting to get things as I want them to be and I have got valuable info from this forum!
I do not know yet if I have to network with similar or with complementary....I'm thinking about it;

I have many practical questions, but try to figure out with the info given. There are points for which I have not been able to find answers:
1) How can we change the size of the text for the "image categories"? I like to have a smaller text for the categories as it will fill more than one sreen with the actual size
2) Is there a way to edit picture by category or by filtering with keywords. Otherwise once we will have many pictures there it will be a problem to edit them.
3) is there a way to make bulk change in categories once published or shall it done one by one.
Thanks in advance!
Jean

Nice work Jean

1.  Yes there is, I asked this the other day and it was suggested I look in the CSS after I had already said I could not find it, however if you put this in your child theme css it might work - no guarantees, I work by trial and error

2.  I use the "drafts" option in all images but am doing them one by one as none of mine have descriptions and I am doing the SEO as I go as well and reworking any keywords, spelling mistakes I find

3.  Yes you can bulk change prices and sizes in the Symbiostock area

Thanks a lot  you Tinny; I'll try what you suggest very soon and will report back

I don't have the first clue how to even start with a site like this. But if you get this to work I will learn! I haven't commented because I have nothing to add right now but you need to know that people are watching and are very appreciative of your initiative and effort.
Don't stop, and as others have said before, figure out a way to make this worth your effort.
I will happily pay, because this idea is worth while.

+1 (me too)
you can also count on me / also for financial support when relevant

General Stock Discussion / Re: PicturEngine: Some thoughts
« on: December 08, 2012, 07:56 »
Picturengine is the tool we have been waiting for a long time. I think we shall give Justin a chance to make it, and of course everything cannot be perfect from scratch. I can imagine the difficulties in making things working properly, I think we shall let him work on the project.
I was one of the few (4 or 5) that indicated in a specific thread that Ktool compatibility was highly wanted. If we are only 5 I can understand this cannot be a priority for Justin, if we are more we should maybe tell him all of us so to get Ktool on board asap......
For now I have taken the 3 month free option and I'm presently uploading my pictures as a test. I have a Ktool store and I intend to stop the test once the 3 months free  period is over and from than I will wait on Ktool compatibility....unless the 3 first months sales are enough to justify to stay as it is....

I dont know Lausanne, but I was in Zurich, Basel and Montreux and have always found it exciting to be in places where I have never been before and found plenty of picture locations just walking around. Also if you have a chance you can shoot magnificient landscapes in the Alps or in the countrysides.
I have no specific recommendations for stock, this will be up to you, but want to reassure that you will find motives from authentic to modern. Let us know when you are back!

General Stock Discussion / Looking for LNG pictures
« on: June 01, 2011, 23:50 »
For few years already i have been selling energy related pictures at my Ktool based site "www.energypicturesonline.com".
I'm one of the main contributors and involved myself in the energy business (some of my clients are indeed work partners).
There is an increasing focus and interest on LNG and I have those last months sold well such pictures license for 300 euro/photo.
I need new pictures as those clients will soon be tired of seeing the same ones on my site....

So I'm looking for those rare pictures even with logo (most use is editorial). LNG sells well, but if you have nice refineries or pipelines; gas & oil offshore, solar plants, etc...  (no wind power anymore - we cover well unless you have exceptional ones..anyway if you have something and are in doubt if relevant, just ask!)  please contact me if you are interested to have your pictures on my site. The photographer share is 50%.
I don't sell everyday, but I have few photographers who earn regularly few 100 of euros with only 40-50 pictures on my site....

Thank you in advance.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Contributor's Collective
« on: April 23, 2011, 22:00 »
There may be 2 sides to every story but I have to correct you cclapper as what you say is not correct:
1) I have never opposed to the fact that there were few pictures (mainly with my family by the way) without release, I also said those were on the way, but as my folio was deleted within 48 hours and I did not get a chance. At this time there were by the way also other pictures from other contributors without release.
2) I was never told to self-moderate; the folio was deleted over-night without a single discussion or warning (and on top of this on request of another contributor). This method is brutal and not corresponding to what I believe a "collective" should be, and especially not in a construction phase where with massive upload this can happen. I'm very surprised that all you contributors find this way of behaving another photograph "normal". There was at least two things to consider before doing this:  (a) ask the contributor to be more selective (b) deleting the pictures with issue instead of the whole folio!
3) This is right, I have been starting to organize a collective and asked for large folios to join. Did I ever complained about  your CEO taking large folio only? The answer is no, I never did
Please read the threads again and don't put in my mouth words that other have been saying. I try to be factual please do so too.

Jean

There are 2 sides to every story and I think it only fair for you to mention that you uploaded some photos without releases (from what I understand), after you were told to self-moderate. I don't think that's being fair to others who are following the rules, either.

Everyone here can go to ktools and purchase the software for about $200 and start their own collective. In fact, Jean, if I remember correctly, you were talking about starting one before Dan did, and it seems to me you immediately put a caveat on the people who could upload. I remember, because I was excluded right off the bat. With 800+ images approved and a Gold level on istock. So let's not be a pot calling the kettle black.

Here's the link to the thread you started:

http://www.microstockgroup.com/selling-direct/virtual-agency-with-multiple-contributors/

You were looking for folks with 3000-4000 images. If that isn't being elitist, I don't know what is. But it was okay when you were doing it, right?  ;)

« on: April 23, 2011, 15:43 »
The idea of a collective is a great idea. The project of doing something together is exciting.
However don't do it for the money (I was told warmpicture has only sold one picture at the day of today.....). And if you like the idea make sure the project is really collective and that you will not been thrown out based on one man decision after having uploaded 1000 pictures as I was with warmpicture. Even I as was not been happy all the time with big microstock sites I was never treated badly with any, and have earned well with them. The idea of collective make sense if it is a collective an not another micro behaving worse as macro with lower earnings...
