iStockPhoto.com / Re: When they tun off the tap?
« on: August 03, 2011, 21:57 »
They have definitely turned off the tap for me this month. Three days in and not a single DL.
Call it a summer slump it you want, but August 2010 was my BME.  :-\

Yes. Exactly the polar opposite.

The corporation I work for is also mired in old school think.
A cadre of bean counters is used to analyze and reanalyze data to determine how to best crush to competiton.
The truly humorous part is that we are a 'not for profit' corporation.

Does Getty even have a Facebook fan page?
If so, are they using it properly?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Exclusive + what's the point??
« on: July 17, 2011, 12:10 »
Can someone enlighten me on the reason that Istockphoto introduced this extra price tier.

Cock Up 1- "We are sorry your file did not make it into our sexy Vetta collection but we hope it screws some more money out of the buyers by entering the Exclusive + collection"

Cock Up 2 - "We have decided that you the talented artist are best at managing your own portfolios and can nominate a % quota of your portfolio to add to this new collection "

Cock Up 3- "Non exclusives are now allowed to screw more money from the buyers by nominating files for the exclusive +
collection "
Just scrap the collection. It stinks !!!!

My answer to today's "Random Shank IMO" post.  If any increase is "screwing more money out of the buyers", maybe you should just go put your stuff on a free site somewhere.

O.M.G. that was perfect Sean!

Perhaps the owners of iStock/Getty should read this and re-think their strategy:
http://blogs.forbes.com/stevedenning/2011/07/16/why-is-the-world-run-by-bean-counters/

This is a new world and calls for a new way of doing business.

whatever it is, if it's the reason I'm suddenly having a few good days of sales at IS, I'm all for it!

150% Same here.
Maybe its just because its July and my mix of stuff seems to do better in the summer, but up until this best match shake-up, I was doing dismally.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: The iPhone SLR Mount
« on: July 08, 2011, 12:38 »
What a stupid idea.
If I am going to carry around a big lens, then I might as well bring the camera body along as well.

I shoot with my iphone when it's all I happen to have with me.

Lobo has killed off the forums. For no reason, really:  he is not acting responsibly when you consider the contributors he locks out are paying his salary.  There is really no reason for him to have a job at iStockphoto.  It's a giant slam to the people who carry the weight. Occasionally, a thread needs to be stopped, but he abuses the job in a really serious way. Inexcusable. The management is looking really bad to leave him at that post. He needs to go get a job at Burger King.

Is he possibly quenching any and all discordant viewpoints at the request of management ie Getty?
I for one suspect that he is. I have worked  for almost 30 years at a company that religiously makes everyone toe the company line.
Contrary viewpoints are only verbalized in the most hushed tones possible. "The walls have ears" is an often heard phrase.

Never get married!

At least not to your agency.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Focus? Hocus Pocus!
« on: June 22, 2011, 11:21 »
Yes, if it is everything they say it is, we will all need to buy new cameras soon!

OTOH, I was very hopeful about the Foveon sensor when it was first announced but ASAIK it's promise has never been fully realized.

The national bird of Indonesia is the Eagle (Garuda) and the national airline carrier is named after the bird too. And the planes often plummet, similar to this eagle or overshoot their runways :-) I think they should change the name of the carrier to something like Swan Air.

Totally off topic, but I made the mistake of flying Garuda once. Never again.

Yep!  the cash is just rolling in!  good times!

Shhhhh, quiet. They'll hear you and change the algorithm again just to muck it up for you!

^^
No model involved.
I believe that the image in question is, as most of Ms. Sherman's work, a self portrait of the artist.

This is less about being a great photographer and more about fame and artistic expression.

As for my own opinion of the photograph? I did better work when I was twelve... but then again, I'm not famous, which is why I license my images for pennies.

Can always use the somewhat awkward he/she  ;D

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying  :)

Now we just wait on the circular event to come back around. The new leader avenges him..then probably gets hunted and killed. Then a new leader avenges that last one..so on and so forth.

Until there are no more 'leaders' to be had because they realize that taking on that role is a death sentence.
What would you have us do, sit quietly on our hands and hope everything will just go away?

122
Yup, logged on to Facebook and all my friend's status updates were about it.
I've been sitting in front of my screen now for quite some time wilh a silly grin on my face.

123
Dang, I kept waiting for one of them to eat the trainer  ;D
Pretty cool anyway though. Thanks.

Off Topic / Re: Model Portfolios
« on: April 19, 2011, 22:48 »
There are no hard and fast rules, but if you make her look like a totally different person or take ten years off of her face, that is misrepresentation.

The next photographer that shoots with her will be dismayed at the reality vs the portfolio image.

I clean up the skin and do a nip tuck if the pose was not optimal, but I try to keep it as "real" as possible.
