Adobe Stock / Re: Bulk Upload to Fotolia?
« on: March 25, 2013, 14:30 »
can you further explain the password part...I have my 6 digit number, but nothing I input for password works. I don't find the instruction clear or I'm misreading it

ftp would work, I will check out microstocksubmitter. I meant to....thanks. I was hoping they had an upload system like SS, which is really easy and allows batch uploads

You can just copy and paste to a text file, and then import that into excel.  The question is how, then to get it into the jpg...

that's the part I want to be able to do....magically connect it all

Adobe Stock / Bulk Upload to Fotolia?
« on: March 25, 2013, 12:51 »
is there a way to upload multiple files to Fotolia? or is it one at a time? thanks.

How did you script the info from Deepmeta to your portfolio? You're a genius to have cracked this!

Short term it'll be bumpy but long term it'll be a wise decision, lots of big changes in the industry right now.

yeah, how'd you do that?

82
^ thank you...

83
well, I had my first sales on SS today.

Fotolia and Dreamstime, do they both require 6 month commitment?

I'm not interested in resurrecting any drama around here. I thought we'd all grown up by now.

I appreciate the majority of the well wishes and as those of you know who I chat with via messages etc., at the end of the day our interests are the same. I'm not looking for handouts or wooyays. it will be tough for a while and I know it.

Stacey, good luck to you as an independent. I think there may ultimately be many more of us exclusives to follow if things continue as they are at iS.

Thank you :-)

Ref: Alamy: I like Alamy. I've been uploading RM and editorial there for a while. I know they are small comparatively, but so far great contributor relations. I plan on putting a lot more up now that I can. The only downside is their upload system; so clunky and time consuming.

thanks all. I've been a little quiet about it, it's a bittersweet thing. I really dislike that iStock and Getty put us in a position to have to make such drastic changes, but they did and many some of us exclusives were primed to walk the plank. who knew that the sharks were actually kinda friendly  :P

I'm excited about things to come, felt like posting in here today for advice as I begin life as an indie on March 20.

87
Thanks Lisa, you're always so supportive. I'm taking it one day at a time but certainly have been planning the move carefully. There are lots of irons in the fire and it's an exciting time. I know it's going to take hard work and I have realistic expectations, but having control over my work and feeling good about the agenc(ies) selling my work is most important to me. As I said, it was time and the decision wasn't difficult, which tells me it's right.

as for my research, it's just common sense. contacting support, reading forums, speaking to those in the know and jumping in head first....that's about it.

88
strategy is a to-each-his-own kind of thing. not too worried about a consensus, but I think anyone in similar positions should be doing their homework.

89
^ I have read just about everything I can get my hands on. I'll certainly be uploading carefully and gradually as I do elsewhere.

two days left of exclusivity. I know it will be tough. it was time. have to say, the Shutterstock uploading process is great. opted out until independence day of course, but getting my files on board. excited for other ventures too  ;)

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy - Are you in or out ? Experiences.
« on: March 09, 2013, 13:17 »

Sorry, I was answering the question in the ()s .

I wouldn't necessarily say "less choice", but "different choice".  Images you can't find elsewhere are a strong USP.  You can't get IKEA anywhere but IKEA.

Yea but Ikea sells cheap crap and I don't shop there for that reason :P

Same here. I also hate having to walk "the mile of death" in order to exit the place once entered.

the mile of death, so true. except in Canada it's the kilometre of death....it's a freakin labyrinth getting out of IKEA

New Sites - General / Re: RawStockPhoto - new stock site
« on: February 23, 2013, 13:41 »
I wouldn't sell my RAW files. I'm sure others have said the same. not to mention a bazillion red flags on this one.

I applied to SS three years ago and was accepted on my first attempt. I have kept my account open and ready in case. I also opened accounts on all the major agency sites, obviously without ever adding files. I suggest any exclusives planning a move should do the same. I have tried to stay on top of the news in forums on all the major sites too, just so a transition isn't too painful should it be necessary at some point.

I won't be surprised to see some major contributors moving. personally I haven't made a final decision about exclusivity yet. for those of us heavily invested in E+ and mirroring on Getty, it remains to be seen if this will give a good boost to sales and I hoped to watch that play out. that was before the Google/MS kerfuffles.

I've been impressed by Shutterstock's moves over the last year. and I've always liked that Jon Oringer is a photographer first and foremost and that he continues to lead the business.

I'm 99% certain this is no bug, and I'm afraid to say, it makes sense. For fun, though, someone should find that post (by KKT?) promising that they would never exclude exclusive files from the search results.

One thing has become painfully obvious over the past year or so.  "Never" doesn't mean never at Istock.  "Never" just means, not right now.

ain't that the truth

^ where did I say I want to go it alone? nowhere.

"please don't speak for "all of us" because you're not speaking for all of us. I'll speak for myself thanks."

sorry, I got the impression from that statement.   you of course know that alone we can't achieve anything, so speaking for yourself is even more useless. even united we may not be able to make a difference, but I'm willing to join in and try.

Stop the off-topic bickering. This is a big serious issue that we need to discuss rationally.

Stacey's got a point. There is no point going off half-cocked on this. Don't forget that Getty 'sold' nearly 7000 images to Google ... of which only about 700 were directly from Istock ... from about 500 contributors, most of whom had only one image involved.

The truth is that 90% of the images involved in this 'deal' were from non-istock artists. Whatever we do to Istock is very unlikely to make any difference at all to Getty. We need to let this news spread and see how others, the biggest and most influential names in the industry, are reacting to it. This is an issue that is probably going to take months, not days or weeks, to resolve or at least get an answer.

This is a major STOCK INDUSTRY-WIDE issue. In terms of the potential losses I'm sure the Grill family (who must have had well over 100 images in there) and many other top 'macro' photographers, who literally invest thousands on each shoot, would ruefully laugh at our complaints in relation to theirs. We need to see what they and others do next.

I think a pig just flew past my window. I agree on all points.

I think it's bad for all concerned to go off half-cocked. I'm simply expressing that concern. I care very much about our community and that something like this be handled carefully and in the best interest of our industry. I won't participate in an angry mob, though I don't for a moment question the anger and frustration.

anyways, I knew what to expect posting here and I rarely bother anymore. but a lot of people read here who don't post and it bears representing that many of us are awaiting an answer before making concrete decisions. if someone else finds that helpful, there it is.

Furthermore this needs to stop with this one deal. Right now there are other ways to sell your images and still make money. If this precedence isn't squashed right now- soon there won't be any other outlets.

I completely agree with you on this. but I question the wisdom of reacting versus planning a strategy based on facts.

So far, the facts are that Getty decided to give away my image for free on Google and stated they have more plans to do so.  My reaction to these facts are that I'm going to deactivate my images.
I'll for sure do 1000 on feb 2.  Not sure I feel like clicking that many boxes for too many hours but I'll commit to 1000.  I may get addicted and do more though :)

^ fair enough leaf. no one is questioning the anger or the concern, or what this deals means for all of us, so all the power to you and how you choose to handle this. how you handle it is your prerogative. you're not speaking for me, you are speaking for yourself and that's cool. it's those speaking for all of us that I take issue with. spamming this concern into social media without organization or strategy, or answers from Getty doesn't help anyone.
