I just saw this new little gadget for iPhone, a phone case with tags that you can track. Perhaps it is a nice solution to keeping track of your bag on trips and such where there are bag thieves hiding in the shadows BiKN (.. like beacon)

http://www.togtech.com/adobe/how-to-get-photoshop-for-freeApp Sumo is having a give-away of 10 copies of Photoshop (with endless upgrades). You have to give up your email address but perhaps a worthwhile 'investment' for those who don't have Photoshop already .. especially if you win.

The full details are here on the Alamy blogEssentially is gives the ability to upload breaking news shots and have the live very quickly. Some of the images will be 'pushed' to agencies so they can use them quickly. Alamy is still one of my favorite agencies and indeed the first crowd-sourced stock model. AND... they still pay their photographers 60% woo yeah.

A press release from ClipCanvas... a new tool to let buyers edit their clips online (Oct 12th 2011, Oslo Norway) Following it's launch in mid-2008, Clipcanvas has grown to become one of the largest online services where you can buy video clips to use in video production, with more than 230.000 professional and royalty-free video clips in their rapidly expanding collection. Today, Clipcanvas announced it is also offering online video editing and a small but growing selection of free video clips that users can download and use at no cost. These clips are offered by courtesy of the large and evolving base of videographers, producers and film photographers currently selling their works through the service.
The early trial-beta for the online video editor allows you to add clips, text and effects, clip, trim and edit your work, and also include royalty-free music as you please. At present, you can buy and download video clips via the service like usual, but in the future you will also be able to create your entire video on Clipcanvas and download this directly. The main idea behind the video editor is to give users the opportunity to easily make video online at low cost. CEO Cato Salter explains: "Developing Clipcanvas has always been about giving the customers what they want and to make it as easy for them as possible to create videos and use video clips. When we added options so users could download any codec or format they wanted, this was done to avoid issues with cross-platform proprietary software or video technology, thus keeping it simple. As far as I know, we were the first to be offering this, and I believe we are still the only service doing it at this level, much to the benefit of our clients."
The editor is also helps keeping things simple, according to Cato, he continues: "We now see a strong and growing demand for stock footage to use professionally, but some of our newer and less experienced users often do not have the expertise to handle different codecs but they still want to make videos to use on their websites, blogs, in-store and for events and presentations. This is why we decided to bring video editing into the service. What could be better than being able to create your own online videos or promotion videos in a few minutes, and at a fraction of the cost? The editor is of course cloud-based and works in much the same way as the YouTube Video Editor, only at Clipcanvas you can source an endless range of professionally shot and beautiful video clips that you can also use legally. For a small fee, you get your hands on what you probably would not afford before, and this opens up a huge potential for creative users."
While the editor is still in early trial-beta, it is possible to create video projects and save these for later. When the full version is released is not yet determined, and depends on a number of factors, according to Cato: "At the moment, we are just biding our time to see what kind of response we are getting on this. So far, we are quite happy with the results. In any case, this is not going to interfere with our traditional offering of royalty-free stock footage and video clips. It is more a way of adding value for the users by expanding the offering. We really look forward to releasing this in full ourselves, and all our friends and followers will be duly notified of course. Meanwhile, we hope our users are happy with the free stock footage our production community is offering and the main collections of clips that are available to buy."

Does anyone know where to see any refunds given out at Veer?
Lifetime Earnings (gross) seems to go down every couple days and I wonder if there is a problem with the site or if there are a lot of people asking for refunds. If it is refunds it would be nice to see the amounts and when. If it is a site error it would be nice to get it fixed.

I have been thinking about this for a while now, how to curb the negative trend that so often overtakes threads, and wonder if a site where people had to reveal their identity would be beneficial and help curb this problem.
I understand the want for some people to hide their identity but feel the gain we get when everyone shares who they are may be bigger than the loss.
In the past, some agencies have taken action on what someone has said in a public form. I would guess what was said in the forum was a continuation of an already rocky relationship with the agency and not a shot out of the blue. Agencies in general have often proven responsive to critique as long as it is worded in a respectful manner, something that having shown identities may encourage. I actually feel agencies would be more responsive to critique and suggestions if those suggestions and critique were made by 'visible' individuals and not people hiding under blankets. A critique from 10 confirmed users feels a lot stronger than one from 100 anonymous individuals.
Anyhow, I'm not saying this is going to happen, I just throwing out ideas and thinking of things to consider.

A press release from DepositPhotos.. Depositphotos Stock Photo Agency Introduces New Pay-As-You-Go Pricing
Pay-as-you-go prices are raised, subscription prices remain the same
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 13 Oct. 2011 Depositphotos, the fastest-growing stock photo agency in the world, introduces a new pricing model. This scheduled change affects pay-as-you-go pricing, while subscription pricing remains the same. Photographers receive a level rating, based upon their total sales. Image prices, once dependent only on the size of the image, now also increase as the photographers level increases. While photographers commission rates remain the same, photographers at higher levels will receive increased royalties due to the higher pricing of images at their level.
With the new pay-as-you-go pricing model, Depositphotos expands the list of countries where the pay-by-SMS method works. Panama, Hong Kong and New Zealand have been added to the list; SMS payments in Italy will become available in a few weeks. The Buyers Menu has received a facelift; the background of opened tabs is shaded, so now it is easier for users to see where they are in the menu structure. Depositphotos also eases the process of purchasing credits and subscriptions; each time a buyer logs in, his welcome screen offers to make a purchase if needed.
We introduced this new pricing model to stimulate contributors to upload and sell more images. In addition, this change is designed to attract those contributors who had previously dismissed Depositphotos as a low-earning agency, says Igor Kalyuzhny, Head of Depositphotos departments in Eastern and Western Europe.

A nice craiglist ad I am a photographer and since people are always looking for free shoots I assume that they must also do their job, or provide their services, for free.
I am looking to hire all types of people to do all sorts of jobs for me, as long as I do not have to pay anything. Just think, you will gain more experience, and I will put the word out for you and let everyone know what wonderful work you do. This opportunity will bring you a ton of unpaid work, but everyone will love you. So if you have a job or service you provide, and will do it for free, please let me know, because I am sure I have work for you and will hire you in a second.
Feel free to email me with the service you can provide, when you can start, and please include references.
I look forward to you free service.
Thanks, http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/tlg/2613342389.html

is it just me or did the releases disappear from within MicrostockSubmitter on the last update.
I can still see the releases in the folder where they are stored and it looks like the images 'should' have releases but when I open the 'attach release' box there are none there to pick from and all the images have' Release' labeled on them.. which usually says '3 Releases' or whatever.

I tested out Stocksubmitter with Veer again today and it uploads and submits fine except for one 'small' problem, the metadata and releases are being attached to the wrong images. It seems the data is one image off Can you look into this?

How was your september? After a ton of uploading I had a BME which is always rewarding after doing lots of work, and not necessarily a given Here is my graph Nothing too surprising this month. Dreamstime seem to be still shrinking for me while iStock Fotolia and Shutterstock are increasing in % here's a link to the poll http://www.microstockgroup.com/pollsvote/

Well it looks like the site is back to normal again. The web host (where this site is stored / hosted) was hacked so the problem reached much further than just MSG.
I don't have much time right now.. but until later, welcome back.

From an email just sent from Fotolia (emphasis added)
We hope you're enjoying Fotolia.com's new look and features. Customer feedback has been amazing, and we will continue to release new features for contributors, as well as improve search and interface functionality for customers.
The release of this latest site isn't just cosmetic. It's just one of the many things we're implementing to keep Fotolia competitive for customers and contributors alike.
Over the last few months, we've seen new competitors offering pricing and commission rates that are lower than our white ranking levels. This is a threat to our business, for the market as whole, and for you, our contributors. This is an issue that must be addressed for us to remain competitive.
We have been obliged to modify our pricing and payment policies to allow Fotolia to adjust prices/commissions on a case by case basis. When a contributor sells on sites with significantly lower pricing and commissions, we will reset their rank to white to allow for competition.
Together, we'll work towards building a stronger stock photography market, and continue to enhance Fotolia's reputation and competitiveness as a leading microstock agency.
