Just looked at the ranking for iStock and found one guy who has 637 images online but no downloads, according to the rankings, but if u click his name and go to IS it says he he has >6700 downloads !?

How can this be  ???  Surely this makes a farce of the rankings !?

p.s. got my first sale at IS yesterday and still no guage under my avatar !?  :(

Alamy.com / Re: alamy ftp ???
« on: January 28, 2010, 05:12 »
Here's what I do. I start the upload and "step away from the computer" don't touch the mouse, don't move anything. :D If you navigate away, open a second window or even look down the list, it seems to blow the whole thing. At least that's the way it was last year and I'm not interested in seeing if it has changed.

That's the way I do it, too - and it works consistently. This whole "multitasking thing" is overrated, anyway  ;D  ;D

I go and get a coffee !  but it still crashes !?   If I do 1 file at a time, I'm in with a chance and at least it doesn't have to do the whole batch again !!  :(

iSyndica doesn't like u doing much either !  ;)

Has Alamy got ftp ??  I'm having horrible problems with their online uploader AGAIN !!

I assume they have some sort of ftp because 'ProStockMaster' manages to upload to them ok !?  But as they only allow 5 uploads per day, it's not always convenient to use that software.

Really, I never got PSM to upload anything or get stats, and it works fine with the Micros.

No there is no ftp.

;) it is a bit touchy, isn't it !!?  Not to mention flakey !!  ::)

Yes PSM works fine.  Just used it to upload the files I've been trying to get up there this afternoon, with no problem :)
That's what I can't understand, if it works smoothly for them, then why not using Alamy's own upload tool !?

General Stock Discussion / Re: CanStockPhoto - Sales Going Up?
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:22 »
I think I put out some good karma by starting this thread yesterday... ended up with another 19.80 sale topping off an already strong day at CanStockPhoto.  It convinces me that the theory is correct... very good things are happening at CanStockPhoto, and I'm hoping they can continue this trend for a while.

I hope so, I've yet to have a sale there ! :(  Very illusive !

It would be good if USER could also be sorted alphabetically !?  If I want to see how well U are doing I have to search (from the top of course ;)

Also the Rank dropdown doesn't seem to size very well, when I increase font size !?  :)

can you send me a screen shot or something?  how is it looking bad?

Don't have any way of doing selective screenshot at the mo, but if u Zoom in using FF the agency names enlarge but NOT the enclosing dropdown box.  Hope that helps :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: South Dakota !?
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:42 »
You really have to be careful with keywording and iStock. If there is a keyword in there they don't feel pertains to the image they will reject the image.

They ADDED it !!!  :)

Good for you. Did you make a request to add the keyword?? I'm assuming you did since they added it

NO !!  I put 'SD',  they changed it to 'South Dakota',  then refused it because that 'Key Phrase' didn't fit the image !

Idiots !!  ;)

Entering "sd" when keywording probably disambiguates to South Dakota.  You should be sure to check all the DA choices before submitting.

It was there, but I never saw it ! Who would expect that !?  ;)

General Stock Discussion / South Dakota !?
« on: January 26, 2010, 11:03 »
Just had a submission to iStock declined, it says :

We regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission, entitled USB Card Reader - with SD fitted

The following keywords used for this file do not appear to be fully relevant to the subject.
{[  South Dakota ]}

:D  from SD to South Dakota !!  Nice one IS ;)  No way was this down to me !!

There is now a "Rank" heading on the top of the site - where you can see how you compare to everyone else.  It will also show the change from week to week (starting next week)

I start searching from the bottom, and work my way up ! ;)

Software - General / Re: PC problem: WinXP, perhaps hardware
« on: January 24, 2010, 17:58 »
Well I don't know what u guys do to your systems, but my XP install has been going for years :)
I often do a fresh install on one of my test systems, and they're NO faster than my ancient one ;)
If u tidy up on a regular basis there shouldn't be a problem.  I use tools on Registry and Drives, followed by a backup and never a problem, apart from the odd virus of course ;)

Software - General / Re: PC problem: WinXP, perhaps hardware
« on: January 24, 2010, 15:52 »
My experience is that antivirus, spy searches, registry cleaners do not help, especially free versions...

Windows always work  worse and worse after installation. That's why I reinstall  it every 3-6 months, sometimes often ... This is the only cure for functionality and speed ...

That's a bit extreme !!  :o

I agree they work best when fresh ;) but even so !?  If u keep it tidied, it shouldn't be a problem for years :)

You could of course make a FULL backup after your fresh install, then u only have to RESTORE when u feel the need !  MUCH faster ;)

Just to be on the safe side, go to your HD manufacturers site and download their HD check program. This should check hardware, as well as software, for impending doom problems.  I know Seagate, Maxtor, Hitachi and Samsung do provide such software.  :)

If you do decide to buy a new computer I recommend purchasing one that has two hard drives. With that you can have the operating system on one and all your important files on the other. So if you ever have any issues like this you can easily reinstall the operating system and not have to worry about losing or backing up your files. (OK it's probably still a good idea to back them up but I don't)

And if the second drive dies, you've lost ALL your data !!  Not a good idea !  ::)

1 drive for System + Data (C: + D:) and 1 drive for backup !

If Sys dies u can re-install without disturbing data drive.  If First hd dies, u have a backup !  If Backup drive dies, u buy a new one and start backing up again !  HDs DO DIE u know !!!

Simple really !!   :D

There are some pretty bad trojans around that AVG doesn't detect. What I would do is disconnect the PC totally from the net, and see if the disk activity stops then.

Bit late for that !!    ???

If it's infected, which I doubt it is, then the damage is done !  The disk activity is unlikely to stop just like that. Disconnecting would be like, 'locking the stable door after the horse has bolted' !   ;)

As soon as a PC behaves badly, people scream Virus, virus....
It's usually something else, AVG is pretty good, as I found out recently :)

Yes, backups are updated.

However, chkdsk doesn't find anything wrong in the HD.  Shouldn't it find something, if these errors were caused by lost data?  Or could another problem cause the same symptoms?

Last time I saw this problem, it got more and more difficult to boot and the drive kept hunting, even after loading everything up.  Also got more difficult to run anything.  Then it DIED !!  Hardware failure, not software !!  Head actuator problem usually.

Hope I'm wrong, but be prepared ;)

I still have to wait to get my last batch to be approved and I allready have a balance of $119.90. I feel confident to receive the money as others already reported a payout. This was some easy money to create!

That's good news, glad to hear it !!  :)
