thanks for letting us know. didn't get one though. do you need to sign up as a buyer instead of contributor?

General Macrostock / Re: Micro vs Macro criteria
« on: July 23, 2010, 16:46 »

I had two images used in a major promotion for Wal Mart a couple of years back.  There was a cardboard cutout with my model in every Wal Mart store in the US. Wal Mart and Glidden definitely could have afforded to spend a lot more.  I have a choice to either be upset that they got the images so cheap, or happy they picked my images in the first place.  I choose the latter.   I am sure most of us have had similar experiences.

that is so interesting, but to clarify the point: did you not receive an el for that photo? or did the # of cardboard cutouts not reach the 250,000 (or 500,000 at is) plateau for print publication? you'd think size might add to the #s. in any case, fame trumps money at times.  :)

hopefully it wasn't a sub purchase.  :o

If the opinion of the general public matters, people who saw the photo on my monitor when I loaded it into the computer said, "That's a nice photo!"  No need to show everybody the photo to quibble over, you can believe me or don't.

Nothing personal, but I don't believe anyone who extols their own virtues here without a sample.

he might be accused of pimping his photo by other members of the forum. however, as the op i hereby encourage those who's bemuddled by the is reviewers (summer or otherwise) to show their rejected photos here for a fair assessment. no stoning or sharp criticism, only constructive words, please.

in any case, i believe you, pet chia.  ;)

Veer / Re: Veer Dash for Cash
« on: July 22, 2010, 16:52 »
some good news about the dash program...i got an el sale for one of the photos approved under the dash for cash two days ago. it had been previously rejected under veer's draconian review board.

it was also rejected by is and ss (but accepted everywhere else). so life is not too bad for an indie who can go to different markets with various styles of photography.

what i've learned about veer's acceptance policy is that they are open to a lot more creative shots. some even came from my photocase port, which is a bit extreme. but, they are true stickers for model and property releases like you can't believe.

well all, does it has an official statement about their QC standards? or it is just based on contributors experience?

does it mean sending small batch by batch with good quality is a better way? instead of sending everything as a batch?

i think you would get all these answers on the alamy forum where there are many, many contributors there compared to here. there is a specific section that just answer qc questions, which is where i get a lot of my info.

congratulations!

one would never think you're a black diamond at is by the amount of complaining you do. ;)  but you always brighten up the forum with your posts.

what is the logic behind? would like to understand so know what i can do..so can we resubmit? and i read that they are reviewing 'technical quality' so no rejection on poor light, bad composition?

you can look at them as the mid-stock agency for "grown ups". that is, they expect you to be photographically competent and know what is good lighting and good technical quality. so they're giving you the benefit of the doubt about your technically excellent photos and not really checking the entire batch. however, if they catch even one, then they think you've not really done your homework on the rest.

however, you'll never get a photo rejected for bad composition for they don't care about its aesthetic quality nor its subject matter. if this is just too vague, you can always go back to the handholding of the micro sites.

I've seen a big increase in sub sales. The other sales are usually small or xtra small so they might as well be sub sales too because the pay isn't that much more

i swear their system have so many problems or have i been complaining too much?  ::)

The real dogs specialist on this forum is Artemis. Check his IS port! Far superior to this Getty snapshot.

i just saw his dog's photo on one of the email newsletters i subscribe to. come to think of it, he's actually everywhere!

Veer / Re: Dash for what???
« on: July 06, 2010, 14:21 »
Sites like Deposit Photos (brand new, faulty English, 1.6 mill images only) or ThinkStock (a lot of old images and IStock second hand stuff) sell more than Veer.

they don't sell subs or are giving their credits away like ts and dps. in fact, they seem to sell a lot of els when the timing is right.

also, with such a generous offer for the dash, they must be croaking with files by now. give them a break.

94
surprisingly i'v been getting dl all through this weekend and saturday's usually are death at ss. in fact, they've been downloading new approvals from july 4th. so, it's anybody's guess.

i also found stop uploading for a week or so do affect your overall sales. it's like turning on/off a spigot for potential buyers. with your newly uploaded pics going live right away, it's a marketing tool for your entire portfolio.

« on: June 30, 2010, 18:39 »
in that case, put all your eggs into the BigStock basket since they only offer credit sales.

seriously though, you should consider zoonar. not only are they paying you for your approved uploads, but once you're there, you can decide the pricing tier for your photos, micro, mid and macro. and there are no subs.

other than that, you may be missing the point about ss, that they actually have downloads.

Veer / Re: Dash for what???
« on: June 27, 2010, 17:23 »
I'm not really sure what there is to complain about. The dash for cash money alone was worth the very, very minimal effort put in to upload files there. That said, June has been my best month there and I reached my first payout. I don't know what the future holds for Veer, but the present isn't so bad.

+1

i think they've been very generous with their dash offer. if someone can actually get 400 photos approved for $1.4 each, that must be the best the industry's seen thus far. my problem is i'm a small producer so i've been like an image factory trying to churn them out, one quality pic at a time.

however, the sales are dismal...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Start selling on Zoonar

is there an universal definition of rm and rf, contained in some official document or overseeing body? or is it going by whatever an agency defines for their buyers in their contract?

If this trend continues I will have worst result across the board. Summer or recession?

My gloomy mystery stuff sells much better on iStock than on ShutterStock, by the way.

if they ever approve it.

since i've been uploading to zonar, which sells across three categories of micro, mid and macro with their partners, i've noticed they accept a lot more of the creative stuff i couldn't get through to the traditional micros. so, yes, plain old, boring, safe, vanilla stuff to micros and more interesting stuff to the macros. it's their loss.
