General Stock Discussion / Re: forum for fractals
« on: February 13, 2007, 17:54 »
This sounds like a great idea.  I'm not into fractals, but I am trying to learn more about vector illustrations.  Know of any forms for that?  ;)

Well, I guess that would explain why I couldn't FTP my photos last night.

Thanks for posting this. :)

Hi guys. I need help to join Stock Expert!! I have been rejected 3 times and I am not sure what they want. Could those of you who are with Stock Expert kindly go through my portfolios and suggest 5-7 photos I should submit to them to join? You help and assistance is much appreciated. I want to get in on this my 4th Attempt. HELP ME.

Some of those that I have already submiited earlier but was rejected
- Sandcastle
- Singapore Boat Quay
- Bible with small cross
- Skyhawk
- Open cockpit
- Stain glass (xmas tree, fish)
- Chinese words
- Ornate circular designs

I feel your pain.  I was rejected again, too.  The reason?  I can't find the email now, but it was something vague:  This isn't what we are looking for at this time.

I've been accepted at SS and doing well.  I've been accepted at IS and am slowly building my portfolio.  I've been submitting to numerous other sites for 5 or 6 months.  It doesn't make sense.  I can't figure out what they want or what they don't want.  Do I have to have people shots or what?  I'd rather not send those till I am accepted.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Tear Sheets - Post your finds here
« on: December 22, 2006, 07:52 »
Sorry, YY, just now saw your reply. They don't look much like anybody's jellyfish, but that's cool. They paid for them, they can use them or not.

Got another one though. Haven't found the mag, but the graphics artist for the mag contacted me.

I wanted to shoot some houses as I had one that sells one. Found a nice neighborhood and shot 15 houses. Generic looking, slight variations from house to house. For some reason, one of them sells many more than all the rest combined.

Anyway, this mag wanted a picture of a generic looking house that looks like it might be in Atlanta, so they go to Istock - a Canadian site as you know. She finds my house - no reference to Atlanta or any indication it was shot here.

The distribtution of the magazine is to the part of the city that I live in and the house is located. Guess what? The owner gets a copy of the mag and calls the mag. She contacts me via email with the file ID to ask me if there was any chance the house was the one in question.

At any rate, it created a good contact and possible future work with the mag.
Small world, huh? :D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Timing of Holiday shoots
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:47 »
I sold a Christmas tree today, but I expect most of ths shots I take this year will sell next year.
This is my first Holiday season with stock photography, but that is my plan - take lots of pics this year and then upload a few each month through out the year.

New Sites - General / Re: Help with price on Featurepics
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:45 »
Thanks for all the input.  I started with all of mine at $1.  Then I started pricing them at $3, to see if price made much difference.  But I've only had  2 dls in about 3 months, so who knows?  I keep uploading there because it's so easy.

BigStock runs hot and cold for me - more cold than hot!  But I do have a $15 enhanced license that I'm happy with.  And dl's are better there than at DT or Fotolia.  I'm not going to complain too much. :)

I was considering shooting some pictures in a local supermarket, and I was wondering if I should ask permission of the manager beforehand, or just take my chances and take the pictures and see what happens.

Has anyone else come up against this dilemma?  :-\

Any advice would be helpful.  Thanks.

Sue

If you're not sure, just talk to the manager - when he/she is not busy.  Offer to make a copy on CD of any images that turn out well.

That's been my experience, too.  Reviews in about 24 hours and sales are trickling in - unlike some of the others that seem to have gone dry.

I'm still waiting for mine to be reviewed.  After very quick reviews in just a matter of days, now it's going on a month.  I keep uploading more - a few at a time - and now I have over 100 sitting there.  I'm very disappointed in what I've seen in the past month.  I have 3 sales and my views haven't changed in ages.  Absolutely no activitiy.  I'll leave my images there a bit longer and see what happens.  But I probably won't be uploading anymore any time soon.

There was a note in their blog I think on Sept. 29 saying that they have fixed the problem of the google and other search engine spyders counting as image views or something of that nature.  I have had 1 view since that date.  Even on other sites that I'm not getting sales, I'm at least getting views so I know there is potential for sales.  No hope at LO with no views. :(

Hmmmmmm . . . I don't remember the dates, but my reviews are only about a week behind.  Maybe I should start keeping a log with dates for uploads to all the different sites.  But it doesn't really matter how fast or slow they review photos if there aren't any sales.  ::)

Microstock News / Re: Dreamstime News
« on: October 04, 2006, 17:01 »
Well, they're not editorial (since they require a release) and their not photojournalism (since they allow editing).  Basically, it is just another category of royalty free images.  Not much of a big deal if you ask me.
That's what I understood.  It's just a 'temporary' category to make it a little easier for buyers to find current newsrelated images.

FastStone has a free photo resizer that will also change names in batches.  It's a neat little program.

Yeah, I got the same note and posted in another thread. Also posted on their blog after the remark they left about the best reviews in the business.  All I know is that some (although not many) of mine were reviewed and (I assume) some of the reviewed ones were approved. Of course, without sales, it's a moot point.
Exactly!

And with regards to what was accepted, what not, why, etc., I think they just wanted to get caught up.  I think all of mine were accepted - eventually.  No need to worry about rejections, I'm sure.

What bothers me isn't so much that it happened, but the response to what happened. :(

yes, if they ever review them.  Review time has gone from rather quickly to slower than a snail's pace.  I would rather they not give me the tokens and review the images in a timely manner so they can be available for sales.  KWIM?

We apologise  to all victims of it! And I would like to assure you that such awful situation is not possible for us in future!
Well, it won't happen for you in the future if your site goes under.

I'm one who had an image 'lifted' that had absolutely no sales.  (that tells you something about the thief's poor judgment.  If he had only taken images with sales on other sites, it might have been a little more illusive.)

But anyway.  I haven't yet removed my approved images from your site, just the pending images.  I would like a better response to this than I have had so far.  I will soon be removing all images and will join others in spreading the word if I'm not satisfied soon.

Someone posted a link to a link to this thread on another forum and thought I would check it out.  And one of my pics was there! And it was one also submitted to galastock.  But is also in my fotolia portfolio, too.  Here are the links.

As you can imagine, I am very unhappy about this situation.

Any suggestions on how to respond and who to contact would be greatly appreciated.
