Pixmac / Re: Pixmac reaches 1,000,000 images?!
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:25 »
Is there a way to opt-out of this type of 3rd party agreement at Fotolia?

127
What a slap in the face this is!

I was bringing them daily referrals.  Because of this, I pulled all my links to Fotolia.

There does not seem to be a bug for me; because now I am getting the extra boost for my Dreamstime links.

128
I guess this will have to do for a response from Fotolia.  The thread in their forums now shows, "Topic closed".

Anyone heard anything else?

129
WOW!  I can't believe that we STILL have not heard anything about this from Fotolia.

130
So I guess that's it?  Slapped then they walk away.  Why say sorry when you can say nothing at all?

At least most of mine are back to green.  I guess I could have pulled my site logs for the last few years if I had to argue the point.  Glad I did not have too.  Sorry to hear there are others still in the red.

Oh well.  I pulled my links.  That's about it from me.  Seems to be a trend in microstock.

131
I think this is enough for me to pull my referral links to Fotolia.  I hate to do it, but I am tired of the games in this industry.  We have to keep track of the return on our time and this looks like its going to fall below the bar.

This will make my referrals worth 50% less or greater.  With bad/no communication, the "bug" excuse, and the disregard for the contact we entered into when signing up, I will no longer refer photographers or buyers there.  Its no longer worth it for me.

I agree they may have found a bug, but for it to be this widespread is too convenient.  Luckily most of mine were resolved and the ones still expired I will toss up to the "bug".  But to go and disable almost all affiliates in a persons account without communication with the user is just wrong.

I may change my mind if this gets addressed in a professional manner, but for now the almost daily referrals from me will stop.

132
It seems very strange to me that our financials at Fotolia can be altered without any communication from them whatsoever.  Why did we not get an announcement?  What is this "bug" (or is this an excuse to cut us out)?  Are they no longer paying for photographers (different pages say different things)?  Was the affiliate plan agreement altered (again, different on different pages of the site)?

In the past, I have had no issue trying to get proper information from Fotolia.  Now, whats the deal?  Not even a reply email?!?  I feel something very wrong is going on at Fotolia, and no one is giving it to us straight.

133
Has anyone other than me contacted Chad?

134
I emailed Chad.  The next day it was sort of back to normal.  If that is the case, that they no longer pay for photographers, don't they still have to honor your existing affiliates?  They can't just cut you out, can they?  That is a 5 yr contract.

If that is true, I am pulling my links.  This is not being handled well.  It makes me think differently of Fotolia.  I feel left standing with no cloths on.  Its not cool.  This kind of change needs to be announced well before.

135
Personally, I would like more details about this "bug" and how they figure we were affected.  This "blanket" disable of affiliates makes me wonder about the actions being taken and their true motive.  If the ones I still have disabled are truly "bug" related, why did the others get disabled before someone really looked into it?  Sounds kinda fishy to me.  This is one of the major problems of microstock.  I feel we are more like cattle in the field.

136
Looks like most, not all, but most have been set back to normal.  Anyone else?

137
I sent another email.  If this does not get worked out soon, I will be pulling all links I have to Fotolia.  No more refs from me.

138
I received this from Fotolia support:

My question:

Why have these affiliates expired on my account? I have read posts that I am not the only person dealing with this? What happened? These are suppose to be for 5 years.

I had about 100 removed, many of them making money.

Their response: (totally false cause a lot of mine I personally refered!  the rest are from my website)

Hello Brandon,

We recently discovered a bug in our system that linked affiliates to your account that do not belong. These affiliates have been paying you incorrectly as a result we have removed these affiliates. We will however allow you to keep the past money you accidentally were paid. This decision came directly from the President and CEO of Fotolia and will not be reconsidered.

139
I have this problem as well.  I contacted support to find out what's going on.

New Sites - General / Re: BNPS Worldwide closes.
« on: April 30, 2008, 14:47 »
Yep, sites are dropping fast.  I was doing ok there.  Better than most newer sites.  Oh well.  At least they are paying (hope) unlike others.

141
They have been doing better than 95% of the new sites I have tried.  I agree the 5mb file size hurts, and that its hard to find them in the search engines.

I have emailed them and requested FTP upload.  I will also email them about the 5mb file size.

I could only find one real thing that is different about them than all the new microstock sites popping up; they are selling my images.

I posted the site because I could not find anything about it here and for a "new" or "newly found" site, they are selling better than all the rest for me.

Use this post how you want.  They have made me more in a month with about 15% of my port than CreStock, FeaturePics and every other site listed in the "New Sites / Low Earners" section to the right (out of the ones I am on).

142
Maybe they are actually marketing, althought not sure where.

143
Not sure.  I don't know a lot about them.  I had read a post somewhere that listed the site and they said the same thing; that they were getting good downloads.

I have 7 downloads there.  1 for $8 and most of the rest for $2.  I have 2 at .40.  They start at 40%, then move up based on uploads.

I have been uploading a lot there, but the 5 at a time upload makes it kinda slow.  They do read image data and do not require you to select categories, so other than the slow upload, its painless.

144
I found this not so new site when searching google for something else.  It looked ok so I tried it.  I have been very happy so far with 7 downloads in just over a month which included an $8 ext download.

The site is http://www.bnpsworldwide.com/?affiliate=6faa8040da20ef399b63a72d0e4ab575.

The link has my affiliate id in it (so if you hate that, just remove it, but if you don't, please use it).  They have an ok affiliate program also, so why not include it.

I searched the forums for the site to see who else is on there, but could not find anything here about it.  Strange since I seem to find out about most of my sites here.

Anyway, in just a little over a month that I have been with them with only about 100 images online, they have pulled above BigStockPhoto, 123rf, and Fotolia for me (and many others of course that are not worth listing).

The site says "Stock Photography Website Since 2003."  I had not heard of them until about a month ago.  The site is ok and they read image data, but they only have a web form for upload.  They have been updating the site, so I hope ftp is something they are working on.

I have been pretty happy with my results so I figured I would share.  Other than having my images there, I have nothing to do with the site.

If anyone else here is on there, I would be interested in knowing how you have been doing there.

Enjoy.  They seem to have something the other "new" sites don't have; Buyers!

145
I do agree that this site does not look very attractive for contributors.  Even more so now.

The funny part is how we take on pricing now.  My comments did not really have much to do with the new site, mainly our reactions.  I am not saying I don't agree.  I do not want to waste time anymore either.

I just think its funny how a new site pops up selling images for $1 and we jump to "thats too low" and "micro stock needs to move higher".  5 years ago, weren't we hearing the same thing?

Thats it.  Just humoring how our tables have turned.

146
Not that I am supporting $1 full res image downloads again; and I do not plan to upload to any other new sites until they start pulling some sales.

But, with that said, traditional stock shooters were upset because micro stock pulled images from $100+ an image to $1 (or less).  And now micro stock shooters are upset because new sites pull it back to $1.

Kind of ironic, don't you think?

Most sites raise their prices AFTER they get started.  I cant think of 1 major site that did not start the same way.  Now what if they did plan to market and bring in the sales?  Would $.50 be better then $.30?  What about $.25?  Subscription sites allow full res download.  When iStock did start charging for downloads, it was $.25 for full res images.

I like putting myself in the other persons shoes before I start to judge.  Just something to ponder.  I am sure the traditional shooters would be laughing until they passed out on this thread.

With that said, I like the look and feel of the site.  Its simple and clean.  I really do hope you did not rip off another stock photos site.  That has doomed other sites before they even started and is unethical.  Photographers need to be able to trust their agency.

WOW!  I don't post much at all.  I read a lot, but don't care to post much. I read a lot of good posts, and see a lot of crap, but WOW!  Next person that takes a picture of downtown Austin, Texas better watch out.  I have a lot and yours could be close!  Wait!  Maybe I should delete all of them because someone could have taken them before?!?!

I can't think of how many posts and how many pictures I have seen that are complete rip offs!

crashoran, looks like someone was having a bad day and found you a simple target.  Makes me kinda sad.  Kind of like a wake up to all of us.

Sorry.  Not punching at anyone, but like I said, I don't post much.  Something here tugged at me in a bad way.  I need to go brush my teeth to get rid of that aweful taste.

Has anyone had any more sales at IV?  I have had a few somewhat recently from just 21 photos online.  Is there progress or was I lucky?  Also, the last post mentioned a batch upload process.  Does anyone know more?

I am redoing my website and was thinking of using IV for my portfolio links because of the ~70% payout and nice layout of the site.

Anything new?

I use to use PixVue, but I found that it is slow when you are pulling up a lot of thumbnails.  The got very old quick with all of my images on backup drives.  I found that Microsoft put out a new tool that is very simple but it has been working great so far.  Its a simple right click and enter the info if you are on Windows.

You can try that.  Its called  Photo Info.
