I also had this pop up... (only on one of my 2 accounts though), i ticked individual because that's what i thought i am. I had SS and DT payments coming in after that, no problems here...
I'd also call them if i were you, afaik they have callcenters in each country...

The advantage, for me at least, is peace of mind.  I can't in good conscience support a company that refuses to support its contributors.

+1. Moral has value, not only profit.
Apart from that my main reason for pulling most of my port is that i'm very convinced sales are not reported accurately there (no hard proof, but 1+1=2), istock to me these days feels more like a scam than a MS agency.

If you go to your dashboard you see different tabs (profile, portfolio, my settings, etc), click the "earnings" one and there it shows clickthroughs...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How do you feel about IStock?
« on: December 16, 2011, 21:59 »

I've never been against unique deals, special arrangements, negotiations, etc., when it comes to dealings with stock agencies, at istock or anywhere else. And really I'm not familiar with any of the discussions here about folks being upset with istock for making special arrangements with anyone. If that's taking place, I'm all for it and good for anyone who has been able to negotiate a better deal for themselves.

Same here. I have never heard of Istock offering special deals to contributors, although I do vaguely remember some contributors asking for special deals and getting shot down.

The only discussions I have read that remotely touch on special treatment are people (exclusives among them) upset by the double standards for Agency and Edstock content.  But that's more a special deal for Getty content itself, not individual contributors.
That and the fact some peeps there can inspect their own files without having to wait in the queue,  and there's this elite group of contributors who get their files moved into vetta, into istock lightboxes, in front of the searches etc (im not talking about those pseudo-exclusives here, but about 'regular' contributors who seem to be the favourite sweethearts). THAT's favouritism, not peeps trying to negotiate a deal...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock facebook app
« on: December 15, 2011, 19:06 »
Oh yeah, exactely what we needed! Gazillions of brats on FB having acces to our images for free! Wohoo! I'm sure they'll rush over to istock and buy en masse!
What a contrast with Veer who offers $100 for promotional use versus istock's 'let us use your photos for free for whatever we see fit, or sod off!'.

Does anyone know if and where we can look at the selected images outside of FB, or at least without installing the app? (ditto, not installing apps that need acces to my data, and DEFINITELY not letting the istock twonks near it..)

Envato / Re: Uploading via FTP
« on: December 15, 2011, 03:28 »
Hello Josh, thanks for taking the time to reply and help sorting things out; it proves that you really are committed and try to improve things, much appreciated! :)
I think i'm fine for now (the files i uploaded through FTP all came through eventually), but you can see how needing a manual to upload isnt exactly user-friendly...

A few humble tips for improving the user-friendliness of the form:
*ditch that whole first page and take us to that 2nd page at once and give us the option to add releases and submit from there.
...just skip the silly steps of having to select it again from a dropdown after uploading (its a form to upload max 1 pic anyway!), having to add a title there (most have it in their IPTC info anyway!), and create the item submission... just take us to that 2nd page at once. The FPT version does this already :)
* For the first batch to become an author; add the info releases should be included in the zip, i was waiting for a 2nd field or page to add them but instead it went pending for review already
*I have a double in my 'images ready to submit' section, but i cant find a way to delete it... is there a way?

All im about to say has been said here before, but i need to rant.
Holy sh*tters..... i decided to give PD a try, but what an utter, utter PITA to get files in the pending queue...
First i uploaded my ZIP for them to approve me; i suspect i had to guess that MR's just have to be included in that zip... no probs after all, i got approved without releases, but the worst still was coming...
PD you win a prize for having the most complex, anti-intuitive upload process of ALL agencies!
I didnt get this whole main file thing and create item submission thing (tried with 1 file first, couldnt get it through, so thought i'll put them in a zip and upload that, didnt get through either, retried, found out the first image was now processed, together with my 2nd attempt, now have it double in the editting queue and cant delete) so tried the FTP instead; it kept throwing error messages (cant change directory yadayada) but it looks like 6 so far slowly are getting through (took them over 15 minutes), i guess i now have to dump the MR's in the other folder and PD will sort out which release goes with which file...?
I figured out how to upload one by one through the form, but how to attach MR's?? If i upload them after uploaded the picture, the picture is gone, if i upload it before the picture the release is gone... and i suspect i'll have rejections for the ones through FTP because how can they know which release belongs to which pic?!
I suppose this whole process takes some getting used to and i'll get the grasp of it eventually, but seriously, there's a LOT of room for improvement.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: POLL: Did you boycott Thinkstock?
« on: November 29, 2011, 11:08 »
I ticked 'i boycot'; like many i'd never ever have opted in; now that we're forced i deleted every file that was worth something to me and doesnt belong on a flea market... so i'm still sort of boycotting, but not entirely because i bent and still have some files there... they dont get any new stuff though, i stopped uploading completely.
(wished that darn b*stards would have told the migration would take forever, i could have waited with disabling...but i assumed the migration would have started immediately after the deadline of sept.. >:()

iStockPhoto.com / Re: REDEEMED CREDIT SYSTEM BROKEN
« on: November 22, 2011, 13:22 »
*snip*
All other agencies have much better pages to report downloads as a daily report or as a chronological list. IS instead has everything hidden behind clicks or sums.
That's the way we know good ol' istock, not? :)
Needlessly complicated in literally everything; from the upload process (jump hoops!), to the MR system (jump through more hoops!),  the reference program (designed to be complicated so the chance at referrals is very small), the search (anyone want to take a 2 day course?), the payout system (a "support" ticket?!), the RC system (no transparency whatsoever)...... chances were small the CSV would have been any better ;)

They do give credit in *some* cases; it looks like it depends on the collection...
I hope its because some of the collections are wholly owned content, but it still worries me the Veer collection that was pushed too early did NOT have the photographers name included (yet...?)...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Randomly invited at Getty...
« on: November 18, 2011, 19:07 »
From the iStock forums:
Getty Images has a website which all of their contributors use to upload their content. It also acts as a hub to keep them up to date with news and information. It contains a whole lot of info about the stock photography industry. We're happy to announce that very soon all iStock Exclusives will be given access to the creative research resources on the Getty Images contributor website.

Watch your inbox during November for an invite email from Getty Images. This will set you up with log-in information for the site. You'll then be able to browse and read the proprietary briefs prepared by Getty Images' creative research team to help inspire and inform you.

Just to clarify, this is not an invitation to contribute files to Getty Images - it's an invitation to access their research and resources. I think it's worth mentioning that this information is prepared by their Creative Research team with their own contributors in mind, but you'll find that the info is very applicable to what we do here at iStock as well.

We are working here at iStock on creating briefs and research specifically for iStock contributors. To start though we think it will be really beneficial for you all to get access to the excellent work done by Getty Images in this area.

We're sending the invitation to all iStock exclusives across all mediums. The research on there tends to be photo and video focused, but I think that the info will be helpful to Illustrators as well. Get in there, dig around and get inspired.

« on: November 18, 2011, 19:03 »
Oh i'm sure we'll get payed our now at-a-too-low-rate royalties retrospectively; in a couple of months some small random sum will be dumped in our accounts without notification first and thats that. Whether that amount will be correct, we'll never know; that they made sure of. (there is the possibility you'd have to send a mail to support first so they can keep what they took from the ones that dont follow forums etc. It's really the same with the zero-amount dl's for those opted in in the PP).

Is that list of screwups still somewhere around here? There's plenty of things to add in the meantime (refferal links over 600 characters long that nobody gets to work, zero amount dl's on TS, this, .....)

Shutterstock.com / Re: I wonder who they're aiming this at
« on: November 18, 2011, 17:52 »
tee, there's no official appeal process on shutterstock; but if you feel its really an unfair rejection you can send a mail to [email protected]; i've done it twice and once it was reversed.

Resubmitting is also an option, but dont do it without a note as you can get "warned "for that.

So they basically admit our names will nowhere to be found there?

Are we sure Visual Photos will be an  official Veer partner? My pics arent there....yet. (just to know who to contact for deleting my port, my pics arent going anywhere where i dont get credit. Not to TS, not to Visual Photos..)

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Subscriptions Update
« on: November 17, 2011, 23:27 »
Oh yeah! Another royalty cut on its way! Just what we needed!
Tu quoque, Achille, fili mi?  :P
No seriously, he was just asking for some feedback. Did FT ask feedback before they did it? Did iStock asked feedback before they "mirrored" our content into the garbage bin? DT has a history of listening so they'll listen.
Hmm, it does sound like an announcement to me;  a pretty vague one about things to come up, but still an announcement. It sounds like "buckle up"...
They will be aligned to the current market conditions. Many designers have criticised the level-based system that deducts several downloads of their daily quota. Depending on their feedback and market reactions these sub. plans may be revised in order to keep a competitive product. Naturally, we strive to stay fair to contributors by providing fair royalties.

I do hope you're right though ;)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Sales have tanked big time
« on: November 14, 2011, 15:29 »
Interesting comments over there about this part of the year supposedly being the best for sales, especially as it relates to the RC targets and istock's claim that they do most of their business in this quarter. If this is the new "good times", I wonder what the new slow quarters will be like.

It's going to be very interesting (or excruciatingly awkward, depending on which side of the fence you are on) to hear what Istock management announce about the RC targets for both this year and 2012. Do they confess to falling sales and reduce the targets ... or do they risk an army of exclusives dropping their crowns if they don't?

My guess is that they will tie themselves up in knots with an even more complex system, either adapting or abandoning the existing RC targets, in a smoke-and-mirrors exercise designed to obfuscate and confuse.

This will probably be the first major announcement from Rebbecca too __ something for us all to look forward to perhaps.
I  have the feeling they'll lower targets for exclusives only; the last initiatives seemed directed towards them (no forced opt-in,acces to some Getty pages,..)
