The video is of a make-up advertiser.  It makes sense to show their products may make you look "perfect" (even before the PS retouches).  But then it's not just the make-up products, but professional work.

I think Lancme uses an interesting approach, having mature women as their models, not showing miracles but well preserved skin.

also this campaign uses mature women... i think it's called dove pro-age campaign, but you can google/youtube it, i don't want to spam the board with off-topic things.

all i want to say is that the photoshopping is sometimes too extreme, and has often very bad results in society.

i however don't know how to approach the topic. sorry if i went a bit off-topic.

yeah i think it might be the new server. that coincides quite much with the stopping of emails...
i could change my e-mail address and see what happens. maybe it gets re-registered or something. or maybe my e-mail is listed on the new server as something bad (which i don't hope, but you never know).

yeah...that's exactly what i did  ::).

150$ is definitely too much. i don't know where you are from, but in the US you can have this for 4-5$ per month or even cheaper if you go quite basic.
I am on an Austrian webhosting, and it costs 4 euros per month.

That's why I said have both. You can try the other one, maybe try a basic version just to see.

To all others: do smugmug and others have their advantages in terms of visibility, i mean do i have to make less advertising for them?

hm i need to check if i have it on fullsize.

i always have everything in raw, so yes it takes a while... and they advertize it is faster with raws now....  ???

the watermark tool looks very good. however.....it doesn't export with the watermark for me. neither the text, nor the picture version (only the plain text version as in LR2). am i stupid or what?  :o

I want to mention a few words to this topic...

I understand that a certain amount of photoshopping is necessary for us all. but it has somehow become extreme, and now the world cannot live without it, and that's what is a real trouble. to go a bit off topic, young girls and even boys orient according to the images they see in these over life size banners in the street and magazine covers and so on, and it is just a distorted world. it is not good! why do we want to represent the world as it is not? for sure some slight enhancements are ok, even quite much, but what all these fashion people are doing is just absurd.
i don't know however, how this can be regulated - because it is just hard to define a threshold between overphotoshopping aka distorting and refining a picture...

look at this, which describes very very well my personal opinion on this aspect:

dove evolution

for me it's not a toy...
doing everything there now, i LOVE the speed, it boots in a second... i do everything there except the photography things, and some music productions.
gimp is not bad, but when you are used to photoshop....

yeah open source is really cool. for programmer people able to read code it is a gift of heaven.

I don't use smugmug but I am tempted to do so. I am in front of the same decision as I want to start such a service, although I have a personal website and all capabilities for selling like shopping cart and so on.
Why not doing both? The webhosting is not that expensive - at least mine...

Isn't it interesting that some of us wouldn't have uploaded this pic for that reason, but it makes no difference to the buyers? I bet iStock would have rejected it.

yeah....well i guess if yuri uploads something, it's accepted easily. :) the reviewers are still human beings after all.
which is not bad, he's doing well.

do you like lightroom 3?
i don't know but i find it slower....  ::)
especially the import dialog is really a heavy load as it is preloading all the raw photos.....

oh i came to see the linux haters  ;D

I have to say that the linux hassle was true until a few years ago....i was using it and everything was hard to do...
now after a long time I installed ubuntu again, and it has made so much progress that i am really impressed.

it is not so extreme anymore, you can even have a social life next to having linux....lol. i like it because i am closer to hardware and understand better what's really going on. but i am an engineer, so not everyone must be like that.

well i guess i will have to continue with my windows partition for photo purposes. that's alright too. :-)

5c. Finally, if you are a proud owner of a multi-monitor setup on a Windows system, be sure you color management works fine on both monitors. Because if you don't have a separate video card per monitor, most probably it does not. Long story short, make sure you edit and proof images on you main (in windows terms) screen.

actually that's a question I have....without 2 video cards, I can get only one monitor right, isn't it? I am working on two monitors but with one card and have not found a solution for this under Windows (haven't tried any other OS).

i must admit that the iphone is much better for surfing purposes than any tiny-screen-PDA or -blackberry...also because you can see the real webpage, and don't have to hope for a mobile version.

Hello,

I don't know why - I don't receive any e-mail notifications anymore - is that normal?
I have already examined my spam folder and all, just to be sure. Someone else having this problem?

Thanks!

Oh Yuri, the people in the front row of that image don't even have reflections at all!  They must be vampires! ;)

lol, really...you're right. in general i don't find the pic so good, different color distribution, strange edges around the people... i mean for someone like me it'd be perfectly fine, but for yuri?

i have also a bestseller, it's a reindeer that was downloaded quite often. very happy, as i just started. :-) it was rejected at all other agencies...

hope you all are very fine!

Hello,

is anyone of you guys working on Linux? I switched back a few weeks ago, and I'd like to know what software is good.
I currently run Windows for photo purposes or run it in an emulator, but the emulation is not sooo cool, especially for large bundles of pictures.

Thanks!

right, very slow for me too - and too large for my PDA resolution. (it looked like a normal webpage)
