Hey guys,  :)

I am in microstock for a couple of years now. About 12 months ago I decided to stop producing and uploading new images, since I have a new job which requires all my attention.  At the time I stopped uploading I was sure, that my earnings will start to decline over time. But I am happy to see, that this is not the case. My earnings are about the same level then 12 months ago.

I have some questions for those of you which stopped uploading a while ago: do you have similar experience? Have your earnings gone up, down or are your earnings on the same level since you stopped uploading? For how many months you have stopped uploading?
How does your microstock earnings have developed over time after stopping new uploads?

I am curious about your experiences ;D

Greetings :)

You may also introduce some levels for photographers, let's say, if someone reaches x downloads, he will receive more than 25%.

I like the idea of introducing levels  this way photographers have a target to aim and keep uploading.

Hi collis,

For DT: We need HTML upload option... Sometimes I upload from my mobile device... So then I can't use Java or FTP...

Do you shoot stockphotos with your mobile phone?  ;)

hey leaf,

thanks for the interesting survey.
But I am sure that many people in this forum would like to see the datafile online for download.
So my question is: is it possible to make the data available as an excel, CSV or spss file?

Thanks

Veer / Re: Disappearing payments at Veer ?
« on: September 07, 2011, 14:13 »
Does anybody have the same problem again?
I had a pending payment of more than 200 dollars, but it now says that I have 0.00 dollar pending. I have not received any payments.
Also the past payments says that I received the payment on September 15  2011, which is not possible, since today is just September 7  2011.

Does anybody else have such an experience? :) ??? ??? :)

thanks a lot  :)

If SS goes public I will buy shares, go to the shareholders meeting, and demand loudly that the reviewing be fixed!

demand a raise too  ;D

If I had shares of Shutterstock, I probably would not demand a raise  ;D

no, never!

Shutterstock makes about 40 % of my microstock-income. To make me go exclusive with Shutterstock they have to increase my income by an amount that closes the gap of the missing 60 %.
In addition I see a certain risk in going exclusive. They also have to compensate that risk.

Conclusion: my Shutterstock income has to rise by 200 % or something like that to attract me as an exclusive photographer

Off Topic / Re: where is the $ heading??

There is a solution. A dollar is still worth a dollar here.  ;D

not if you want to buy something in other parts of the world  ;)

but on the other hand... making a vacation in the USA (or shopping) has become verry cheap (from an european point of view).

The submit all button is on the way, but as long as you have a title, description, and keywords and you click the save and submit button on the bottom, all images will move to pending.

Not exactly. First you have to tick each file individually - which is the boring part. After that, you can click the save and submit button; it's 11 clicks instead of just one, or about 1000% more clicks than necessary.

TO ALL SITES, NOT JUST CC: sorry but I am continuing my battle for streamlined processes: the only hope for minor sites in my opinion, since we cannot afford to spend more time than necessary on 20+ sites. We are photographers, not bots. The only button I want to click is the shutter button.

Yes, a "check all button would be great.  :)
This is exactly what I am looking for.  Checking ALL images with ONE click.

For me, FTP is working fine now. :)

But I have 2 short questions:

Well, I know it sounds lazy, but do I really have to click on every single image in the Edit and Submit Files menu at cutcaster? On average I need more than one click per image to get my images pending.  I still have a couple of thousands images to upload and I dont think that I want to click them all.. :)
I also have a second question: is there a way to set another standard price (so that I dont have to change the price every time)???  ???

thanks a lot  :)

You should accept at least 6mp...

Hi All,

Thanks for your feedback, we've lowered the requirement to 6 MP for the foreseeable future, although the pages on the site still says 8 mp. All files that were previously accepted or is currently in the review queue will remain as they were.

Thank you very much.

for 123RF.com

« on: November 19, 2010, 13:15 »
Had this problem for over a week now,  uploaded thumbnails, simply wont show, worse, it looks as if its corrupted somehow. I normally work in Firefox but have tried Opera and Explorer:  No, same thing, no thumbs, which makes it impossible to edit, keywording, etc.
anybody else with similar problems?

Bigstock.com / Re: What's happening with the uploads?
« on: October 11, 2010, 00:45 »
Almost 3 weeks ago I had some difficulties in uploading by FTP (I use Dreamweaver FTP tools). The thumbnails didn't appear and I thought that the system hadn't yet had the time to assimilate the images. I didn't wait for them to show and blindly edited categories backed up with the photo descriptions. One day later, the thumbnails were still missing.

Surprisingly, the images got accepted but all I was seeing in my port was blank squares saying "image not available".

Searching for the images, they did not appear is search results. Then, I wrote to support and they replied that they were having some server issues and that my thumbnails would soon be visible, which they did some days later. The problem is that by then, my images were already buried under hundreds of new ones, with very small chances to be found in searches again...

Last week I uploaded a new batch, this time avoiding FTP. I've chosen the HTML forms, and, guess what,... no thumbnails again, only "image not available"... I'm going to delete them.
I have just tried to upload one image a few minutes ago. The problem remains.

What I'm finding very strange is that I don't see anyone else complaining about this. Not here, not in BS forums.

Maybe I should contact support again, but as they have confirmed me the first time that they were having server problems, I'm waiting for them fix them!...
But isn't 3 weeks a little too long? And why don't they announce something about this?!

Or is this just happening to me? what's your experience?

Thanks in advance for your responses.
Carlos

hey when I was at uni/college I didn't have any money to buy photos, I had to spend all my money on beer.

same for me - but beer wasn't free, why should photos?

well... sometimes beer is free  ;)

Interesting question!  :)

In my first 18 months in microstock I spent about 15 percent of my revenue for new camera, lenses softboxes and props. But now I have all important equipment, so I think I will reduce the fraction of money I am going to invest to a level of about 5 7 percent for props and replacement investment.
I just try to keep the monetary investment (besides labor) below a maximum of 2-3 $ per image. Assuming a RPI of 1 $ per month I will start earning my wages after the image is 2-3 months online.

I also got some sales in my first month at deposit. I got sales almost every day. But now the sales are gone. Nothing!

I wonder if they give new photographers (not new images) an advantage in search placement to encourage them to upload more images!?
