Only joined a few weeks ago...have had almost 100 percent acceptance...same day reviews and constant sales...although at a low price...am concerned for their future but removal of images if need be are a simple folder deletion away.

52
It is a very mixed bag...personally I can't see for the life of me why they have most of it on there.

I assume they re-review the full size image once they show interest...?

sigh, i haven't reached that stage yet. but, yes, that seems to be the case. the initial selection is all about aesthetics, not necessarily quality. i don't send anything typically stock to them. you should check out the getty flicker collection to get an idea.

53
From my experience Getty are pretty good at chasing down unauthorized usage...and yes, they do our percentage of the licensing fee that the offender pays...

And in the macro world when it comes to getty tracking down a misused image with its crawler and seeking thousands from the often unwitting small business owner who used one of the aformentioned students to design a website does the photographer get his commission?

Fascinating!

I took a hit on that one too...ruined a relatively decent sales report!

Hi All,

This is a bit of topic but we were talking about how tough it can be in this business. Every photographer that had images with Brand X that was purchased by Getty in the Jupiter take over received a letter from Getty yesterday. It said " We have realized a mistake in our book keeping and you have been receiving 30-40% from your Brand X photos since we took over their control. We were supposed to be paying you 20% so your next check from Getty will subtract the difference in the accounting error.
If you do not get a check this month that is because you owe us more than we owe you. As soon as you have paid back the debt we will continue with your commissions at the standard 20%, Thank you "
What about that, their mistake and we get to pay for it. I realize we did get more than we were supposed to but it was their mistake. I think the damage should be shared by both parties but Getty is not going to do that. Welcome to the lovely world of Macro.

Best,
Jonathan

Is this for real?  I keep reading it to see where I am supposed to laugh??????????

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Anyone shoot medium format FILM
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:09 »
Go for the Rolleiflex...especially one with the Zeiss 80mm f2.8 lens...have worked with them in the past and they are gorgeous. Can also recommend getting a brighter focusing screen as the standard ones are a bit dark to work with. May be a bit pricier but in the long run well worth it!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Nikon to Canon or Canon to Nikon

I've used both with film and digital and prefer Canon for digital...but am going to get some of those lovely Zeiss ZE lenses this year...also shot with Contax 35mm and Rollei 6008 med format film cameras...can't beat Zeiss optics.

Give them a year...see if anyone is pleased with them. Oddly enough they emailed me about submitting macro RF to them...but am dubious about that...especially as I have an active Getty contract.

Submitted 600 images...50% acceptance...no sales yet

Oh... I think I'll stop uploading right now. :(
I never started and don't think I will...lol

Submitted 600 images...50% acceptance...no sales yet, find their upload and submit process very time consuming and have stopped uploading until I see if sales happen. My impression is that they have macro expectations at a micro sales point.

Those of you that are on there...do your images sell that often if at all???

I found your system can be faster than FTP...uploaded over 600 images quickly with no issues at all...it's very good indeed.

Have you thought of allowing uploads through iSyndica?

Thank m@m!

As for FTP...we actually don't allow FTP into our data center due to the security risks involved with FTP in general. Instead, we have a very nice multi-file uploader where you can upload huge amounts of files all at one time with just a few clicks. It will even report the current status so you should be able to fire that up and let it go which really gives the same overall speed and benefits as FTP would.

New Sites - General / Re: The 3D Studio - anyway selling there?
« on: January 05, 2010, 23:17 »
Just uploading my work the past 3 days...what I find incredible is that with just over 500 images online so far I have had over 7000 views...and a sale the second day...lets hope they keep selling...so far am pleased.

63
I believe you can simply delete your account...which should do the trick and delete images at the same time...give it a try...am thinking of it myself.

I was just looking at MostPhotos and it looks like I have to delete each photo individually?  I should keep my account open though, I have a few referrals (who haven't sold anything either).

Snapixel.com / Re: Snapixel... Anyone selling?
« on: January 03, 2010, 17:54 »
Well...it was becoming enough of a task to monitor sites that are selling my images without the extra burden of the non-sellers to have to think about.

Same here...I deleted all my images...not worth the effort

lol You could have saved yourself a couple of mouse clicks and decided not to bother deleting them

You think snapixel is 'an effort' to upload to???

Me: no sales yet - but that was expected, and I admit I do treat the site as somewhere to 'throw' images. Like clustershot I think this is a place where you have to do the selling if you want to - they seem to be going for a flickr with sales thing, and to get anywhere on flicker you need to be taking part - so snapixel might not work for me either. Unlike clustershot snapixel still has work to do, search results are still listed by order of upload date not relevancy/ popularity/number of downloads or some other secret recipe - these things need to be addressed or they will die.

nobody has proven that you can create a stable photo community with photos that people want to browse through (like flickr, jpgmag et al) that also includes sales. when you include sales suddenly the whole motivation for people uploading seems to change - does that break the community??? nobody wants to browse through a catalogue of stock in their coffee break? deviantART have kind of succeed?

2 months with Snapixel, and no sales yet.

Anyone with a different experience?

I never knew about 3d Studio before I read this thread...just started uploading...a nice site to work with...my only comment is that when creating products the screen keeps flashing from dim to bright...a bit headache inducing...but otherwise simple to submit...fingers crossed they get the sales...

You have been spared!

We should email this wanna-be and ask them to provide their business plan, current government-issued identification cards of their owners, financial statements, and ten of their best images for us to inspect. Only then would I even consider uploading to a new site.

What other red flags? Keywords don't bring up any images. (Kinda goofy to show a February launching with a search box active but no images yet approved). No marketing info -- not even the customary hype. No background info on owners. High payout of Euro 50. Really unattractive web site. Feel free to add to this list.

However, I do respect their honesty in the name.  Workingtitleimages really says "not ready for prime time".

Oh, and I am insulted about not getting my invitation yet.

iSyndica credits are 1 cent each...monthly charge of 4.99 includes 200 credits and monthly charge of 9.99 has 400 credits...you can purchase additional credits in blocks of 500 I believe...which makes it quite economical

yes, it's a great tool but at $9.99 per 400 credits, it's not so cheap!

400 photos is what I can upload in one night for free with my ADSL connection

using iSyndica it's almost $300 per month: at that price I could choose a different ADSL plan with an higher upload rate and still spend less

I am not talking about the big 6 agencies which is worth spending time and money to upload: I am talking about the very small new agencies which would take 10 years to regain what I'd spend to upload using iSyndica or PhotoShelter or similar

I have a liability policy with the Hartford...here in California you can't get a permit to shoot without the liability cover...and in a country where lawsuits are prevalent you'd be insane not to have it.

Mostphotos.com / Re: Images disappearing
« on: December 27, 2009, 23:00 »
Recently uploaded 122 images through iSyndica and they have vanished...but I was going to wait until tomorrow, a normal working day, to see if they appear...am also having the same problem with Yay...except they re=appear then vanish again.

Try sending an email to [email protected] ...that worked last time I had a problem and they sorted it out.

An elephant is a mouse designed by a committee :)

I've just joined StockXpert and am uploading my port...there is a box to tick to opt in to my images being made available on the new Getty sub site...so I'm assuming they will be available for sale on there...perhaps my also being with iStock, opted in to the partner program, will be an impediment but I'll wait and see.

After 3 months with SS and several others I'm finding that new images sell well then drop of a little...but also that my original uploads are still making sales even though I feared they would drop off the radar.

I can only reinforce the thoughts of others that you need to give it time and upload to as many as you can and see who sells for you. Already I'm finding that sites that work for others do nothing for me and vice versa.

All the best and don't give up

If you keyword all your images in Lightroom or similar before uploading to iSyndica then they appear just fine in all the sites you distribute to when you come to submit the images. If you want the full service then go take a look at Lookstat...but be prepared to pay per image for the service.

iSyndica do many less important things but don't do (maybe can not do) the most timetaking thing: keywording. without submission prosess, iSyndica means nothing. multiple uploading can be done with fxp methods with much more cheaper. "analysis your earning" is just a "financial masturbation". Lookstat says they do everything in their site but only with 2 sites. it is also another story..

Is there any company can really do all the processing? I would like to give my photos and expect to see them online in every sites that I want. Whenever there is a ready company for that, I can pay for it. (even much more what iSyndica ask for now) Until that happens, Sorry but iSyndica is a waste of money.
