123RF / Re: 9 days and still pending..
« on: December 10, 2011, 01:34 »
Sorry but, although there is merit in your statement which reflect general sales at specific sites, I can not agree with your conclusion. You are now telling 70% of the members here that they must basically just shut up about their sales, because they are not "the big guns" who "really" can talk about sales.
It was nothing personal, just the observation that "BME" is statistical noise by the small sample.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Interesting Featured Contributor

Member since August, 27 dls, port seems to be entirely red carpet.  I like how DT really does feature all kinds of contributors and doesn't just focus on the superstars!
I see it as an attack on Getty/Celebs/Edstock. Perhap's it is Getty, venturing out. In any case, this isn't a "normal" contributor.

Hi AttilaTheNun, thanks so much again, tried to send you a heart but need to have at least 10 posts ... so will do later. We ended up coding it in java but your post was really helpful.
Ah cool. I just wanted to make sure. Good luck with the library!

I'm using Firefox with Adblock and third-party "harvesting" cookies blocked. Moreover, daily AVG goes through my history and deletes those that get through (the "smart" ones?) like the doubleclick parasites. I don't use IE since then hell breaks loose with ads and trackers all over. That's why I don't use Chrome too since it's probably one big tracking and spying machine as Google has direct access to your browsing behavior and your IP at the same time. Apart from the fact I don't like to be followed by creepy shadows at my back, all these invisible reloads cost me money since part of the time, I'm on Wifi volume billing.

But nevertheless, thanks to SLocke for the explanation.

Fair enough. I'll submit a few tickets then for those images rejected that sell well at other sites.

MSS is based in Easter Europe.
Ah! So they outsourced. That would explain they have a tendency to reject my good sellers at other sites. Their reviews seem to be purely technical while they seem to have no clue about saleability on microstock. I'm still convinced that reviewing should be done in-house with own people, just like a contributor should do his own keywording. But that's the way it is...

If I could afford it, I would hire people to do my cleaning, cooking, ironing, some one to give me a good massage, drive and park my car
This sounds more like having a good husband. ;-)

I'm new to PhotoDune, but where did you see who the reviewers are or where they're from?
Reviews tend to come in around 9am Ozzie time. That would would be an indication that most of the reviewers are down under.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Google Analytics
« on: December 07, 2011, 19:41 »
Anyone using Google Analytics for their site?  Do you find it useful?  Google says it is free.  What is the downside?  What are the alternatives?
Yes - Very - It is - None - None.

61
I already do (keywording) but not for micro and not in all cases.
Only uppercase?  ;)

Microstock Services / Re: Recomendations to outsource keywording

It's a service that where considering providing [...]  what about  post-processing, such as  Photoshoping?
We are, Photoshopping. Wallah. Geez. Grrrr.

Tabimura : this user is currently ignored.
What part of "plonk" was unclear? There is a wiki page about it but I'm too lazy to look it up. But I suspect it's well known;D - Over and out.

Thanks for all your help people, but I am not looking to rake over the old debate re similars nor am I even questioning the policy.
Well if you upload to DT, be aware of their level mechanisms and just upload the best. Every site is different. If you strive to maximal revenue just uploading what you consider the best of a series wil be the best policy. If those are online for a while, just upload the lesser (or different) ones later and see if they get through. That's how everybody does it I suspect. You will get another reviewer probably then. Complaining with support makes no sense since you will be forwarded to the same reviewer anyways and nobody likes to lose face. That's how it is.

66
if you're not too lazy, do a search on this forum and you'll find enough information to vanish any doubt you might have, regarding absurd "too similar" rejections.
My dear, I don't feel the urge to look on "this" forum for remarks of some disgruntled tiny portfoliers. Normally I block people with firm stands that have no links to back those up. Nothing personal, and you can do the same with me. (I advise you so). I didn't make any claim though, I just observed the level mechanism. That's how it works, and that is it.
But you ARE very aware of this, and you know it.
I'm always thrilled with people claiming what I should know or think.  :P
Even if you submit 3 shots in a series, significantly different one from another, you have a good chance to get at least one rejection.
I never had that, but then again, amount of similarity is a matter of opinion. To be honest, I had a rejection lately in an Editorial series that told a story. They blocked me at the 5-th and I had 20 or so ready. Normally I upload Editorial only on DT and exclusive, but this time I removed the exclusivity and the shots are for Alamy. I didn't lose a minute sleep over it. If they don't want it, fine to me. There are more fish in the sea.
It's not about competing with oneself.
It is my dear, it is.
They take this to the extreme and this is not good, they're exaggerating. As are you, I noticed that after being dropped from SS you came back with a strong love for DT, defending them in every possible topic. Things are not that rosy ;)
Well my dear, DT makes me the most money in microstock for now. That might change if some other stalker is going to attack me, and that's fine to me. RM made me much more the past year, RM you don't know of, even if you seem to have an obsession of poking into things you're ignorant about. I have several lives, most not related to photography that I consider a pretty low grade vocational job but happy snapshooting is fine. Could it be that you have none (lives I mean)? Kind regards and plonk.

67
Don't worry. Dreamstime has a well known record to reject the best shots in a series, on the reason of what they call "too similar to others".
In my previous job (science) mentioning "well known" in a submitted article meant "I was too lazy to research the facts". I'm not aware of that "well known" fact. All I know is that if you submit only the best in a series, taking the decision process out of the hands of the "illiterate" reviewer, you won't have your best sellers elsewhere rejected on DT. You forgot about the level system. Your revenue on DT will not come from loads of level ones, but from a few level 3-4-5's. Competing with yourself on DT is very unproductive. On other sites without a level system, it might work fine.

68
I would definately outsource
I would definitively not outsource to someone that can't spell English well. Good luck.

69
No.

If you were the chef in a Fugu restaurant, would you ask the fisherman to cut out the liver of a globe fish?

Yeah he cracks me up. He's the same bloke that tried to pay one of his bills with a drawing of a spider. That one went viral a year or two back.
Missing Missy too. Thanks to OP for posting the original site.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Cutting off their nose
« on: December 06, 2011, 21:47 »
I was just about to post a note in the keywording forum about it when I noticed that my two most recent posts have also been deleted.
What on earth is the point of that?
Why do I even bother?
Is this a rhetoric question or are you really a masochist?  ;)

As usual, we will be fair, and equitable - ESPECIALLY to contributors who have good sales, productive and a proven track record. *hint hint*.
Ah! The plot thickens. Is this an undercover announcement of a sort of level system? Like new contributors starting at 30% then climbing up the ranks when they produce good sales? Nothing is more rewarding than that. It makes good business sense for the company too since consistent long-term contributors are very low maintenance. I'm more than 6 years with 123RF and I never needed to send an email. Payout is automatic, unlike FT where you have to threaten them (Baldrickstrousers) to get your money. I'm curious what the hint-hint will be ...

Thank you All for all the feedback on EXIF and IPTC! It works now, we are reading the data!
You didn't even send me a heart for the code.  :P
Please start uploading.
Not so fast. Where is the release library?  ;)

123RF / Re: 9 days and still pending..
« on: December 05, 2011, 10:02 »
Can't really complain, I've just had my BME at 123rf - in fact I've more than doubled my previous BME - yay  ;D
If that is the case, you must really have a small portfolio on 123RF to get such an increase (statistical artifact). The point has been mentioned in another thread by Rinder. Don't mention portoflio's under 1-2K. I get tantrums reading people on the DT forum yelling BME when they had 50 sales. Only the real big guns here can tell what's happening.

Is the second from the last image one of Lisa's?  Looks familiar
Yes of course. Her family is all over the net and she cries all the way to the bank (joke). She has a superior talent to direct amateur models and I'm sure they love it. Everybody loves Lisa! (no sarcasm intended).
