Dreamstime.com / Re: keywording on DT

And somebody can flag your keywords - he will not see GOLD or GATE in your photo...

I have not claims to other sites editors, if the site work perfect, only DT: their reviewers have free weekends, holidays, vacations , long pending line and long review time. They have no time for their job, but have time for shooting, postprocessing and uploading thousands of images! Interesting, who review their photos and how many rejections they have...

Dreamstime.com / Re: TIFF additional format uploading

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG write:
The compression method is usually lossy, meaning that some original image information is lost and cannot be restored, possibly affecting image quality.
Simple example - if you convert true color image to 256 color , you never will get back true color from it!
So i think, this DT additional TIFF, made from JPEG, is only for getting more earnings (if the buyers are so naive)!

Who know, are TIFFs created by DT from upsized JPEGs the same quality, as created from original RAW files? I think, it is possible create JPEG from TIFF, losing the quality, but impossible reverse this action. http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/beyond-basics/240202-jpeg-tiff.html i read the next information: Consider the issue that JPEG only allows for a 8-bit tonal depth in each of the 3 color channels: red, green, and blue ( or 24 bits total, 3x8=24), so any JPEG converted to TIFF will also have an 8-bit depth, whereas an image originally made as a Raw or TIFF file can have a 16-bit depth. And upsizing decrease quality, too!

On DT i received funny rejection reason: ...Photographs of people with half closed eyes and wrongly timed expressions are not suitable for commercial use.
It was photo with woman, resting in armchair. How MUST she rest - with full opened or closed eyes? Yes, some reviewers has strange sense of humor... I think, DT recruited new reviewers with half closed ... !

Nice, at last DT team are working, as they MUST! Reason is decreasing upload limit and smaller pending line ( smallest was 6 000). But i believe not - it is on long time! Today pending line grows more as 22 000...

Great. Hope they aren't "fixing" their search engine, ala istockphoto, so as to manipulate everyone's sales.  ::)

In some threads Serban/Achilles frankly wrote - they are doing this ( moving photographers up and down in relevance search results). But for this they need not to switch of their server, it is usual action!

Does anybody know - is Dreamstime the only site, who antagonize contributors between each other with this flagging system, or other sites do the same? It look as in communist times, when peoples was denunciating each other ( today for $0.02)...

istock has a similar system but the contributor doesn't know who flagged the image, only that it is under review.

I don't mind the flagging system so much...so far, when I have politely emailed the flagger, they have given me their reasoning behind the flag and it has always been right. Early on, six years ago, when I first started uploading, the common thought for keywording was to add everything you saw in the picture. As time went on and the search engines evolved, that didn't make sense anymore, rightfully so. But my earlier images have a number of superfluous keywords and I am happy to remove them, if they make sense.

edit: as an occasional buyer of stock photos, I find it very frustrating to have to wade through images that have been keyworded incorrectly

I think a bit other: your images, keywords and mistakes are your matter and i will not touch them. For finding mistakes are reviewers, they get for it the money, it is their job and wrong keywords must be found in reviewing process, not after some years! Cathleen, have you so much time, to check once more all your portfolio? Who have nothing to do, can to remove bad keywords, too! Next - rights to flagging Dreamstime can better give only to competent photographers, not to beginners with zero portfolio. Everybody can make false account and to flag who he want.

You have some valid points and I generally agree with you. The agencies get about 80% of the money, it is their job to check everything. On the other hand, if all contributors were honest and didn't keyword spam, such measures wouldn't even need to be in place. No, I don't have the time to go back and review every single one of my images, that's why it didn't bother me that someone else flagged them. If someone complained, I'd check them and change them. And even after the flag, they got reviewed again. But as Artemis has pointed out, they likely aren't even doing that. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

May be i am too paranoic, but i worry about this, posted by Achilles:
Once a report is validated, the owner will lose the editing rights for that image. Further penalties can be applied if most of his portfolio has serious problems. The whole portfolio might reach for full keywording in the keymasters section, with all expenses supported by the owner. That's the whole portfolio, not only the reported files.
( it is first post http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_7808)
Full keywording, all files for $0.60 every file... It is reason to worry.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Special promotion: 10,000,000 files online!
« on: November 12, 2010, 11:10 »
10 millions is nice for DT, for buyers, too. But we are sellers, what is better for us - full market or empty? More files online - lower our chances to sell something. Why are you so happy?

LOL let's close agencies for new uploads :P

1. Impossible - to close agencies can only their owners!
2. Agencies understand this ( they are sellers, too) and are cleaning their data bases by deleting or mowing to free section files, standing some years without downloads ( 4 years for DT). Accepting requirements become stronger, more rejections, lower prices.
3. On this page right side you see lot of agencies. How much will be here after 5 - 10 years? I think, only some biggest, other will die without buyers and earnings...

This problem have not only you, but a lot of contributors! Read http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_24550 . With DT it is usual thing - some days, and new bug, mistake, error... Year or more ago it was perfect, properly working site, what is happened in last time?!

Mistakes and errors are usual thing for DT (not as for other sites). We can only smile and use this site "as is" ! Have some earnings on DT - good! No - don`t worry, on other sites you will earn more!

I have been unable to sign in to dreamstime today and all that keeps coming up is what appears to be a dreamstime page asking for my old password and for me to create a new password - it does not allow me to go to supprt or any other page without doing this first - also the English explanation is a bit stilted in how it is written which also has me a bit worried - maybe I am overreacting but I am worried DT might have been hacked in some way and they are trying to get at my account?  I have emailed support but it's the weekend. Anybody else experiencing this? It just seems so out of charcter for DT and there has been no notice from DT about changing account passwords?

Try to connect your account in DT from another computer - friends, neighbours, e.t.c. If it will be OK, scan your PC from spyware!

« on: May 29, 2010, 04:35 »
Still no complaints here either.

I hate to keep bumping this thread because I feel the title is so misleading, but my graph is pretty steady, with only slight fluctuations.  March was very good, as always and sales have returned to their normal levels, but not fallen below.

Would I like to see more sales growth rather than steady-as-she-goes?  Sure!  But I certainly think DT's performance is good.

On your graph i see that your sales in May 2010 are lower as in May 2009, but how much images did you upload last year? With bigger PF you have lower earnings and you say - all is OK! And from beginning subscription on DT part of sales are more, more lower price.
