iStockPhoto.com / Re: Latest sales - down quite a bit
« on: May 22, 2020, 05:57 »
After an average start to the year, this month on Getty was particularly strong beating the last 2 Aprils by quite a lot. I seemed to have a lot more sales in the Royalty Free Footage section. I think that may be the istock side of things or clips selling on Getty and not through the premium access? Anyway hope it continues?

52
Maybe I'm just lucky? I don't want to jinx myself, but I don't seem to be getting many low priced clips. In-fact I'm getting more higher priced clips from Shutterstock as of late. Like back in the old days. All are HD and nothing related to Corona.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Selling 3D Animations
« on: April 25, 2020, 04:10 »
I'm working in Cinema 4D. Rendering time with Octane render is a bit faster than directly in C4D, but it takes around 10 minutes for one frame in FullHD. 4K takes a lot more time. I have Intel i7-7700, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1070.

I've been using C4D for donkeys years. I moved to it after my 3D Max training in 2001. I've always been a moderate modeller/animator,nothing professional.
I've never used Octane or Redshift ever. Been thinking about it for years. IS Octane the one you can rent monthly? What's it like? Worth the money?

Cider Apple, Octane worth all the money, simply... THE BEST rendering engine and easy to use, easy to create materials...etc Redshift also a good one but slower in my opinion.I am using both of them.

Thanks, I'm going to try the demo today. The monthly subscription I was thinking about was Arnold. Might try that too?

you add to the main url slash photo slash your image's photo ID. e.g hyperstock.com/photo/123456789

Can one's videos be found in a similar way be replacing 'photo' with 'video' in the url? I tried that with a few of my videos (typing in their IDs) but nothing came up.

Yes you could a few months ago but they have turned everything off for now. I found a few of mine that way but now they are no longer searchable.

Adobe Stock / Re: 2020 Adobe Stock Artist bonus program
« on: April 05, 2020, 08:32 »
Hello friends, my question is how can I see my sales on the dashboard between the dates of  Jan 1 and Dec 31, 2020 ?

Thank you in advance!

On the dashboard at the top left corner is a time frame box. I've been selecting This Year as I'm assuming it's from Jan 1 to Dec 31.

Matt may i ask you ,why a videographer needs to earn around 20000k  to get all plan apps and a photographer needs around 2000$(depending on rpd)???
It's huge difference..
Btw i really appreciate the bonus..

I also only upload video (full time job) and got to say that 625 downloads is an impossible (or extremely unrealistic) target. Maybe film factories can easily do it but one man bands is near impossible. Now I've got to figure out if I'd prefer After Effects or Premiere?

This just came out from SS. It makes no sense as reviewers work in their homes on computers and no computer has ever given anyone a virus.     "PLEASE NOTE: Our review teams are taking the necessary steps to continue operating safely and at full capacity. However, you may experience longer than usual wait times for review due to the global impact of COVID-19."

I think that's garbage. It may be just for video - but I suspect:

a) It is outsourced in India/Phillipines
b) By SOME reviewers (not all) - A combination of laziness, probably reviewing on their cellphone while watching t.v. (so don't feel like using data) - so just go through the 'motions' of reviewing so they get paid when in fact they are doing nothing at all. (I've actually hired/outsourced workers from those area - and it's been my experience unless you really watch what is being done - that is precisely what happens. Had some data entry/review jobs outsourced where I could "see" what they were doing - and it varied from doing it 100% incorrect to simply waiting 10 seconds per item, then clicking 'reviewed & accepted' without actually doing any work).

It's just *really* annoying. But it seems to be some (not all) reviewers are just automatically rejecting 100% of items.

I'm holding off for now too. Ive gone from a 99.999% approval to 50% at the most. All for noise artifacts where there is 0 noise or artifacts. Shooting in 4K RAW on a professional Sony cam. Editing them in Pro Res. I've even tried submitting the 4K as HD - still get rejected. If I re-upload them I might get 50% through but it's wasting my time too much. Sales have tanked since COVID-19 so putting my time into other creative digital areas.

The only thing keeping me afloat at the moment is template making on membership sites (only upload templates) Without these sales I'd be finding it difficult. I'm a full time stock producer.

I wish shutterstock could make it easier for us in these troubling times....

Pond5 / Re: Hyperstock
« on: February 15, 2020, 09:55 »
Hyperstock is an unlimited subs program. A customer pays a modest fee, say 20 dollars a month and can then download whatever he or she likes without limit.

And pond5 has not yet explained how much contributors will earn per download.

I am not part of the membership program, but from what I have heard you get a money for every sale. The membership plan is nit jnlimited and supposedly will work out to be 2-8 dollars per file for the customer and I suppose artist get a normal subs commission. I have no idea how much that is.

Again, I am not a member and reporting what I heard.

But membership is a plan with a monthly  limit.

But if Hyperstock goes live again why should anyone buy your files from pond5 or Shutterstock when they can download thousands or files for a small monthly fee?

For years pond5 has raged against such sites and scolded all artists who dared to take part in such agencies.

Now they are doing it themselves and hijacking contributor content without asking them first.

And the reason they are not asking is because they know the individual contributor will not make any significant money, but for the agency owners it will be a goldmine.

Unlimited or cheap sub sites get significantly less uploads and have much smaller libraries than normal agencies. Because people are not stupid and see no reason to upload a 1000dollar production to a site where at best they can hope to earn a few cents per download.

But my main gripe, is that they did not ask artists before taking the content.

Send an email to everyone, direct them to a page with information and a large Opt In button and all is fine.

Then the artist can make an informed choice.

But until now...they havent...and they force you to opt out TWICE before removing your content (or not selecting it).

Thanks Cobalt. Yes it is worrying to say the least. Do you know when Hyperstock will be live / or how long it has been?
It all seems very secretive!

It reminds me of Getty's Premium Membership. And that sucks!!!

If you participate in membership/subscription, you are lowering price of stock videos.  Don't do it.

I'm not in the membership thing on pond5, but whilst doing a quick search on hyperstock, I've found some of my clips.
In a nutshell can someone explain the difference between what pond5's membership is compared to hyperstock? I thought the membership was the same as a hyperstock model?

Off Topic / Re: have I been in the wrong industry for years?
« on: January 24, 2020, 04:16 »
OMG that's incredible.
Scary to think of over half a million similarly designed websites out there. Success is  all about design, opportunity and timing I suppose.

I've been thinking that I should have been designing AE templates too years ago instead of just AE clips, think I've missed that boat.

I'm thinking like you, maybe the way forward is more specialized content? Harder to do with less competition (although many talented artist's are doing this).

General - Stock Video / Re: Should I submit or not?
« on: January 20, 2020, 14:01 »
No it was like a rendering glitch I had in CS6. It would just glitch out a random frame every now and then. A lot of my stock work from around 2011 must have a random frame sometimes in the clip as it was a good half year before I realized  ::)

General - Stock Video / Re: Should I submit or not?
« on: January 20, 2020, 10:54 »
If the clip runs smoothly on your computer then it should be OK. Years ago any renders I did using After Effects I would get a glitchy one frame duplication that made the clip twitch. You could go through the clip and make sure each frame is OK?
I would just say be careful when down converting from 4Kto HD using 3rd party software. There are different sizes in 4K so you may get letterboxing on the HD clip (black bars on the top and bottom). Also make sure you are keeping the original frame rate or you will get frame blending or it could look choppy when playing back.

Are you on a PC or MAC?

None of these issues are, well, issues, if you know what you're doing. All software is "3rd party software" unless you use the camera manufacturer's own, which no one does (well, Blackmagic users might). ;)

If you want to change the frame rate in After Effects, just choose "Interpret Footage" and set it to whatever you want. If you don't want to change it, just create a new comp from the clip and the original settings are kept.

You don't get frame blending unless you tell AE to blend frames. And you don't get duplicate frames unless you drop a clip with a different frame rate into an already created comp with another frame rate. Or if you change the speed.

To the OP:

Your old computer can render 4k footage just fine - it just takes longer! Work with proxies if you're having playback problems.

My opinion is that you should use good commercial software if you want to get consistent results. That means After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut, or DaVinci Resolve.

My opinion only. :)

Mate I've been exporting frame rates for years. Thanks for the AE info but I'm an old hat at it. The software actually had a bug (or my comp) that the odd frame now and then would just glitch out. The latest CC has fixed this.

3rd party software meaning video convertors and not editing software like Premiere or FCPX etc.

Also if using video convertors then yes you will get letterboxing depending on the original 4K size. The op mentioned 16-9 so should be ok.
My 4K sony records in 4096X2160 but most cameras record in 3840X2160

Hi, I feel your pain, it's a pretty scary idea. I was exclusive from 2011 to 2015/16.

How many clips do you need to upload? I think I had around 6000 at the time and it was a bit of a slog to copy and paste all the keywords and titles over.
Being non-exclusive has taught me better techniques on how to store and library my clips at home and how to create .csv's for all the sites.

Yes all the sites accept Getty / istock releases. I actually still use the old istock template as I never got around to changing it.

In a nutshell I'm pretty confident that I'm earning a lot more being non-exclusive than being exclusive. I still have my files on Getty/istock and in truth brings roughly the same as my shutterstock sales each month. (I wouldn't delete yours as the amount of time and effort taken to upload them wouldn't seem right). I haven't really seen a drop in my income from Getty but the premium membership sales are driving me nuts.

It is hard work being non-exclusive. I spend half my time uploading and csv(ing) compared to before. I'm ok with that. I do this full time but if you are part-time - it is a lot of work.

There are companies out there that you upload your footage to and they do all the uploading to all the sites. I don't personally do this but you could check out https://www.blackbox.global/

Good luck!

Wow Tyson this was really stunning. What an amazing place you live. You guys must be so fit to walk up a mountain in deep snow like that + carrying all your gear. respect man!
Loved the narration, some how it works better with a British accent (must be the David Attenborough thing?)
This was really well thought out - given it was all stock work too.
I especially loved the end titles:)

General - Top Sites / Re: 4096 x 2160p vs 3840x2160
« on: November 16, 2019, 19:35 »
Most sites do not make HD versions based on 4096 footage. I personally shoot 4096 and crop it to UHD. That gives me some flexibility to slightly reframe the shot if I want.

I've never experienced this Forrest? I've been uploading 4096 to all the major stock sites for years and they scale down to HD fine.

69
I would not call it exclusive. You can not duplicate files on other sites, you are free to say upload to Getty if you wish as they do not submit to them.

Hi John, does black box still submit to storyblocks? If so how much do you get for a download as it's now a members sub site?

Newbie Discussion / Re: Shutter stock rejections arrgghh
« on: November 08, 2019, 05:24 »
After a nearly spotless record of acceptance at shutterstock in video I an now getting 4 out of 5 rejected for ridiculous reasons like noise and artifacts when the footage is clean and denoised even when shot at ISO 100 in daytime on a GH5 at 10bits. My workflow has not changed and all of the rejected have been accepted with no issues at Pond5 and AS.  My guess is SS is going to start rejecting most non factory submissions.  16 years of producing footage and now boom SS acceptance wall.

I really find it disheartening after allnthe work I put in creating and processing these videos. I have never had a refund and sell thousands of clips a year on all sites combined.

Anyone noticed something similar in video?
Exactly the same for me James. Word for word. I'm finding it ridiculous.
I haven't thought about only factory submissions are being accepted. Is there any data on this?

71
I've kinda been wondering the same question. I saw a few of my clips on the opening of the Rugby World Cup titles and the opening to all the games. Also on ITV in the UK and probably watched by mega millions.
I'm over the moon as my clips are kinda like the main running theme throughout the opener. Looks like I got $102 for the main clip and 73 for the 2 lesser ones.
At first I was like, OK then that got me thinking as it's been viewed by millions should I double check what license was used?

Years ago I found a clip of mine in a music video that's had over 240 million views on youtube with only a standard license. Maybe I should have asked if this was correct but to be honest my first reaction is always WOW and that's so cool! before I ever wonder about if it's been purchased correctly?

For the PC version or Mobile?
For the PC go into settings and click 'show details' under subscription. They have a cancel option there.
Mobile I don't really use but probably the same?

If all else fails you could cancel the paypal direct debit from paypals side?

« on: October 15, 2019, 03:32 »
I've been getting stupid rejections too. A clip for Brexit and the other for Bremain. Both rejected for similar. they couldn't be polar opposites. Madness.
When I asked why? the support guy said just upload again and leave a re-submitted note. You cant leave a note though just the tick box of re-submitted (so you cant explain why they are so different).
To rub salt in the wound more is the fact you have to re-upload the clips as they can't go back to the reject bin and just take them from there. When you're talking 4K clips over 2GB in size each it's just a waste of time and resources.
So annoying.

Hey Mat,

I'm also confused. Can you please help me with this:

I've received the "Creative Cloud Bonus" code last year. I haven't activated the code yet. I tried to activate it now and it says it's expired.

But here is the email I've received from Adobe:

"Dear -------,

Last August the Adobe Stock team launched a Creative Cloud giveaway program to reward our top contributors. Congratulations, you are one of them!
You were awarded a 12 month free Creative Cloud subscription, and received an email from [email protected] with your redemption code. We noticed that you havent redeemed the code yet to start your free access to Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, and more.
In case you overlooked the previous email, your code is -----. You have until July 2021 to redeem it. ..."

So as stated in this email I've received from you, the code should still be valid.

Can you please help me with this?

Thanks!

Yeah, same here. I was going to use it after the current one but the expiry date appears to have been changed after first said 2021. When I found out they were awarding new ones I was going to send it to someone else... glad I didn't  :D

Exact same thing has just happened to me. Just tried to activate my first adobe cloud givaway from last year and it says it's expired. About 6 months ago an adobe employee emailed me reminding me that it expires in 2021. Whats going on Matt???

Also I've never bought adobe cloud before (still use CS6) so the 'Digital River' thing doesn't apply to me. This is the email I recieved on 18/12/18
