Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock Creative Cloud Bonus Program
« on: August 19, 2019, 03:34 »
Hey Mat,

I'm also confused. Can you please help me with this:

I've received the "Creative Cloud Bonus" code last year. I haven't activated the code yet. I tried to activate it now and it says it's expired.

But here is the email I've received from Adobe:

"Dear -------,

Last August the Adobe Stock team launched a Creative Cloud giveaway program to reward our top contributors. Congratulations, you are one of them!
You were awarded a 12 month free Creative Cloud subscription, and received an email from [email protected] with your redemption code. We noticed that you havent redeemed the code yet to start your free access to Lightroom CC, Photoshop CC, and more.
In case you overlooked the previous email, your code is -----. You have until July 2021 to redeem it. ..."

So as stated in this email I've received from you, the code should still be valid.

Can you please help me with this?

Thanks!

Yeah, same here. I was going to use it after the current one but the expiry date appears to have been changed after first said 2021. When I found out they were awarding new ones I was going to send it to someone else... glad I didn't  :D

Exact same thing has just happened to me. Just tried to activate my first adobe cloud givaway from last year and it says it's expired. About 6 months ago an adobe employee emailed me reminding me that it expires in 2021. Whats going on Matt???

Spacestock : I really wonder about your sale strategy. You produce very sellable content. My clip average 25$ return per sale. Obviously you sell more if you participate in subs but I still have doubts that you are making more being in SB and Envato subs scheme(don't know if you supply to Getty/Istock too) than to stay with the pay per download options (Videohive Shutter P5 Adobe and Storyblocks).

Is it always difficult to predict and subs seem to work when there are not many players in the market. This is what made Shutter photographers happy back then where there were not millions of files added to the library per week. Even at that time I decided to stay exclusive with Istock when there were no subs there. I was making 12-13k month with 3000 images (no model at that time). Situation has changed alot but in the subs game contributor always loses at the end even if at the start it seems a viable option.

Video sales are very far away in volume than those of images so a return of pennies (Getty) or fractions of a dollar is not going to make it up in volume.

In any case good luck with your path. Your content deserves to make a healthy income.

Not since May, but I'm sure some people are. Now I'm receiving payments from the exciting new Member Library Program! It's a new opportunity for me to make as much money as possible from my content! Did you know that contributors are making more money and Storyblocks' customers are gaining access to great content?!

Please tell me how many clips do u have in the Member Library and how much money do u get ? an average per clip ? Thank u.

Early days, so hard to say for certain, but I'm on track to earn roughly $1.50 per clip this month. I have 340 items.

I sit on both sides of the fence here. I've not joined the storyblocks members program but kinda understand SpaceStocks thinking. All my conetent is on Getty and although the big sales are drying up the smaller (partner program) sales still add up each month and that alone pays the mortgage and bills.
I haven't seen any conflict of sales between the agencies with my content on Getty. Shutterstock / Adobe / Resolve / Pond - all have extremely consistent monthly sales. I could tell you how much I make within $100 each month. Scarily consistent which makes me want to ask other conspiracy questions :)

So I think there is a need and place for a members collection, and sales can be pretty good. I personally don't think buyers shop around as that's not what I've found.
I can see some agencies could be taking the piss though and I'll need to look into Storyblocks members program more before making a choice.

78
The payments they send out on the 15th of every month to people who've earned in the previous month.

You're still getting marketplace sales?

Yes mine are marketplace sales although they have slowed down a lot past 6 months.

I got my payment yesterday

UK - I assume National Security is the same as National Insurance (covers NHS and pensions but... this is pittance really). It's also compulsory in the UK.

I'm talking about what people are investing in for when they retire. Stocks? Bonds? Crypto? Housing? or just cash?

I feel it's important and yet not spoken about really?

Also can you see our portfolios still bringing in money in 20 or 30 years time? My best seller is now 8 years old and still brings in a decent amount each year? I find it all fascinating...

81
Hi Everyone. Been at this full time now for a while now (video) and trying to figure out pension ideas?
I've been putting a % away into crypto for a couple of years and that is doing OK. Keeping it long term for retirement.
I've been toying with the idea of either a private pension or second buy to let home for a future retirement investment too?

I'm also hoping my portfolio will see me right too as I'm hoping it will bring in $$$ even when I stop producing (if I ever do?)

What are other full timers doing in regards to pensions???

82
I am uploading roughly 50 clips per day

Don't burn yourself out bro. I find I might have a mega spell then need a few weeks off (month) to calm the mind and creative soul. Plus key-wording 50 a day is a right bit*h.
You might find it better to drip feed it in to get better results in the algorithms?

Key-wording and selective editing is a skill in itself.

Today I found my videos from Pond5 on Vimeo Stock page. One of this videos was deleted more than 6 months ago on Pond5 but still selling on Vimeo?! what

I never Opt in GLOBAL PARTNER PROGRAM on Pond5 preferences.

Already send tickets to Vimeo and Pond5!

Wow that's terrible. Pond5 only looking out for themselves.

This industry still needs a main co-op run by us creatives as one of the main industry leaders if u ask me...

84
thought I'd just post some thoughts here...

if footage was "truly" exclusive and desirable, and pond5 reached out to outlets that desired this truly exclusive footage - i.e., what the authors submitted was very difficult to obtain else where and news footage firms wanted, say:
-

Your thoughts?

I look at it as an opportunity for us to take control of the industry. A lot of the Best content producers are putting their efforts into Pond5x, guys like Via Films. I'm doing the same with some of my higher end stuff and will see how it goes. If all of the best content is exclusive then it will drive sales, just dont use garbage footage for P5x.

Sounds like you want it to be extremely similar to istocks old 'Vetta' catalogue. Suppose everything comes around full circle? My 10 year old daughters fashion is highly influenced by the 90's. Mad to think that my generation is now vintage :0

Income has nosedived.

Haven't sold anything through my exclusive account. Strangely, it takes longer for my exclusive clips to get reviewed.

Wow that's awful. Hope it changes for you soon.
I was once exclusive for Getty and I told myself never again will I be exclusive - for anyone. It just doesn't make any business sense at all to me.

86
Thanks Matt, I actually really enjoyed this video. It's not the way I work at all so enjoyed seeing another perspective on stock work.
Not sure on all the criticisms. I know editing vids can be difficult and shooting and scripting. Unless u have a large team behind you (which I expect not) then I think you did a great job.

On a side note please can u ask about changing the video thumbnails in the portal. Kinda driving me nuts that we can't change it.

The Artist.

OMG I loved the video bits in-between. Kinda got me thinking of stock BG's hahaha

88
My short story... In 2011 I started uploading stock footage using my DSLR as a bit of side money.

In 2013 I was making more money in stock than my day job (a media teacher).

In 2015 I quit teaching and went all in on stock.

2019 I've never looked back. I'm now at the stage where I work when I want (not much in the last year as I've been enjoying being a dad to my 3 kids and doing house DIY stuff)

My monthly income is extremely stable and am earning more than I could have ever wised for. I have more free time now than ever before in my life (that means more to me than income).

If you work hard and put the effort in to the right places. Stock is a fantastic career / lifestyle. Just remember content is king, it dosn't matter so much on equipment as long as you understand framing and lighting.

Good luck, hope u join the party :)

Hello.
If I want to create After Effects templates, is there a need for audio? I noticed that the soundtracks that are so popular, though they are not part of the sold product. If I put music into my project that will not be part of the sale, what are the conditions here?
Thank you for answer.

You normally use one from the sites music creators and credit them in the description. Different site operate slightly differently though but that's basically it. I think u link to the music track too but it's been ages since I've made any.

Microstock News / Re: This is hilarious.

Oh dear, hahaha pretty funny though. Glad none of my clips were in there and I haven't ever filmed the things that wee pointed out. I suppose that comes down to my family being so used to me with a camera that they just act natural now.
Nice find...

General Stock Discussion / Re: Video Stock Market?
« on: November 30, 2018, 05:58 »
I'm not sure what to think? So they pay you an upfront fee but then do you still get sales after this on that footage?
It looks like it's for the China market which is interesting but somehow I always think we would be getting a bad deal.

I don't like the fact that they would have a lot of my footage for only a relatively small amount.

It's not for me but still an interesting concept. Quick cash if u need it I suppose.
If they open a western version then it could conflict with your other (better paid) clips off other sites so I'd be careful.

General - Stock Video / Re: "Crossroads" on Shutterstock
« on: November 25, 2018, 04:13 »
What worries me too is shuterstocks rocketstock.com collection. They have basically been watching what sells and make their own versions of it. They have copied loads of my texture video clips. Cheats....

94
Hay Mat don't know if you know the answer to this but I received the video cc package with all apps (including photoshop) and also the photoshop package for the photography package as I'm both a video and photo contributor.
So my question is as I now have 2 photoshop cc packages can I give one to a family or friend. Is my name on it somewhere in the adobe system where they will need to change it?

Thanks

95
Hello. It wont have anything to do with how slow the footage is. Probably more likely is how you rendered the footage to 24fps. It should be 7.5 X slower than real life. If you've calculated it wrong and you have some missed frames or duplicate frames (due to the re-timing) then this can fail the inspection. Also if you're pushing the camera to it's limits you can get artifacts that can cause a failed inspection.
Maybe reopen the clip in your editor and just double check how you slowed it down. That's normally the problem anyway.

Hard to see on your clip as Pond5 puts so much compression on the clip previews.
Nice clip BTW. Golden hour is always the best:)

I had an email today saying I'm invited (hand-selected) - don't make me laugh... to help other contributors with questions and I'll get paid for every person I help. Shutterstock have teamed up with Directly?

Anyone else?
Not sure what to make of this?
I never post in the forums? Must be via sales that they pick people?

Pond5 / Re: 2.5 months no sale
« on: October 11, 2018, 17:22 »
Pond5 has awoken up for me. After a few years of average sales (50% shutterstock) the last few months have been fantastic. Most mornings I wake to multiple sales. A Lot 4K too and some with upgraded licenses for a considerable amount.

I've been getting sales at the same time (must be 2am UK time or something) as I always notice them early in the morning. I think the pond5 system must add up all the sales and send them out at a certain time?

Sorry for not following the doom trend.

98
Matt you music collection is absolutely amazing! That Dave Grohl photo with the sweat coming off his hair! Wow!

99
I cover the camera mic with duct tape to prevent sound from coming in.

hahaha

I think I qualify for the Video part CC as I have met the requirements, have not received a message yet, so maybe in the next few days?

I already bought my Adobe CC Yearly plan so It would be great if I can save the code for renewal next year.  Thank you for giving us contributors this perk, since many of us are loyal Adobe customers it is just one more reason to stick with the platform.     :D

Hi, do u know if you need to upload 300 new clips this year or just have at least 300 in your port? I qualified in the first month if the latter? I'm taking a year off to study and invest in Crypto's so I haven't uploaded 300 new video files this year?

BIN that - I just re-read and it said.. or $500 in earnings. Cool!!!
