And now we have all those snazzy (?) boxes saying the title is unique etc and encouraging long descriptions.

Have we any idea whether the latter in particular affects/helps sales - or whether it is just another way for us to waste our time?

I know which I'd guess. But has anybody seen/heard anything more....official even?

Another change? Just gone from bad to absolutely terrible. Last 3 days.

Brasilnut - for me you are a part of the problem I'm afraid. Brutally honest or not, getting yet more people to play is not helpful to us already in the game.
Yes, I know that stuff about adapt to the market etc etc. But we are now largely commodities in an already oversupplied market so we can do little except hope. Or find other markets and diversify.
I guess your blog is your diversification. Neat.
I'm doing my best to find alternatives too.

on how to make money on microstock and just feels depressed? We're already heading to more contributors than buyers.....

I know this makes me a grumpy old thing, and I should feel happy happy for all these eager newbies and would-be newbies.

But I'm not and that's the truth!

Biggest drop yet in June, though been slowly declining for months.
Down to 2012 levels.
Sold about 25 % of what was a 'normal' month.
Incredible.

Mediocre.
Close to new normal in the end, rescued by an SOD. About 25% down on June 2016.

Same problem. Old releases, new releases. Same outcome.

Used SS own downloaded 2 weeks back so latest edition.
Crossing out/correction - rejected.
Said 2-3 June for shoot (it was over 2 days) - said could only have one date. Rejected.
European ticked in place of Causasian. Rejected.

Old version MR of my hubby who appears from time to time in pics - accepted lots of times - now also rejected.

I haven't been able to get an MR accepted in weeks.

EXACTLY the same as April 2017 here. Down 15% on last May.

So over all sites about 30% down on last year. :(

Does anybody know of a one which satisfies ALL the big 4 requirements?

I thought everybody accepted SS  but on that it didn't specify that the parent's name must be printed - mother wrote it - so it is being rejected by others. And SS itself have rejected it for some reason yet to become clear.

Glitch. I emailed them and last week they were working on it.

Thanks so much all. I was getting really bogged down in all the options while my goals are - at least in the short term - fairly limited.

:)

Gannet77 you are a star! Yes, I've been round Google and even did a one day video course (but they didn't want to get hung up on the technical stuff!)
I at least have a starting point.
Thanks so much, really appreciated.

But it's stock I am interested in (having done stock photos for years).

I don't aim to do mini Hollywood epics with sound effects, snazzy transitions and impressive special 3d animation effects. Which is why I asked here.

It IS a whole new world and some help as to where to usefully start would be nice.

I don't want to be a chef. Just a competent (stock) cook.

I look forward to maybe a more useful reply.

Alamy.com / Re: New uploader stinks
« on: June 05, 2017, 01:09 »
I thought it would be impossible to make the uploading process to Alamy worse than it was, but they seem to have managed it. I suppose it's great if A) you don't want to bother doing anything more after you've uploaded, regardless of how much visibility your work loses; or, B) you upload hundreds of similar images all at once and can bulk process them all at once. However, if you do small batches of different subjects, keeping track of what has or has not been fine-tuned after upload is a nightmare, and trying to fine-tune it batch-by-batch is clumsy and awkward. Everything is going on sale RM which usually needs to be changed, a less-used pseudonym is inappropriately stuck on everything and I have to go through a great pile of batches to try to find anything and work out if it has been updated post-uploading or not.
If you don't keep a note of all the batches and whether or not you have dealt with them, you end up with files on sale with no "super" keywords, which presumable means they have no chance of getting a good search position, ever.
At least the old system kept files off-sale until you knew you had dealt with necessary adjustments.

Totally agree, especially the last bit. Doing mixed batches is a right royal pain. Mainly have to do one image at a time to ensure no mistakes and keep track.

Also, star sometimes reacts, sometimes not. Internet can be slow here. Have to wait each time to check it has registered.

Worse than before.

Thinking of trying footage. I have an OMD EM5. And no video software. And basically do not know where to begin. I have read lots on the internet but my head is just spinning. On my camera alone there are so many options....

Is it possible to give me a starting point:
what format to set on my camera
free or low cost easy to use video software to do basic editing

so I can have a play?

Clearly the objective is to end up with something half decent for most sites.....

or is this like asking how long is a piece of string?

I think most people recognize the extent of competition these days - from all over the world. The issue is how to respond. While we can do our best to do better/more and generally adapt, it is very hard to tell if a strategy is working, not least because of the huge quantity of images being submitted/accepted which bury new content.

And then a simple tweak to an algorithm can just wipe us out.

Not all of us have access to spacemen etc. Unfortunately.

Actually, you do. It's all public domain from NASA.

Yes?

Yes.

ok - you got me there!

Way down. Most sites slightly down, others average but collapse at SS.

Agree to a degree. Just saying. It's odd. Frustrating. Maybe a marker in an algorithm somewhere...who knows.....
Anyway, things are suddenly terrible. Off a cliff. Back to 2013. When I had lots less pics.  :(

It seems a bit like when you are approaching a new payment level......things slow down and it takes longer than you thought.
I'm top tier and approaching another milestone. And downloads have reduced to a drip......
