Is the ability to edit keywords post-publish on the agenda for Veer?
This is definitely still on our radar. Its something we discuss often, but is a more complicated business decision than is likely apparent from the outside. We do consider cleaning up old SnapVillage keywords a particularly high priority, and are aiming to focus on those specifically in the coming months. We want to make sure your images are searchable, and dont want to place the clean-up burden on you since the errors that were created as a result of the transfer were out of your control.

Opposite to the others here I agree it is your job to clean the keyword-mess that you made with Snapvillage. But it should be more than high priority I delivered high quality material to you and you did just three keywords or so to them and best of it these keywords were wrong - go figure!!!!!
REALLY GET THIS JOB DONE before you send this keyword-mess to your partners!

Hi grp_photo,

Are you referring to images that were transferred from SnapVillage, or recent uploads? If they were recent uploads, please send the image skus in question to [email protected], and we can take a look to see if they were mis-keyworded, or if there may have been some other error. We certainly aren't aiming to make your images unsearchable, as that doesn't benefit you or Veer.

Hi everyone,

You'll also be receiving this information via email, but I wanted to stop by here to give a quick update about the Veer partner program.

We're pleased to announce that Snapfish is our second partner to adopt the reseller API. Snapfish's web site hosts consumers' images and sells stock images, along with merchandise. The site has 95 million members, which equals plenty of new opportunities to sell your images.

You can view the Snapfish stock library here: http://stockimages.snapfish.com/LicenseStream/index.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fLicenseStream

We'll continue to share updates as new partners sign on. Your feedback and questions are welcome. Feel free to respond here, or contact [email protected]

Cheers,

Veer / New Extended Customer Protetction Plan
« on: March 23, 2011, 13:09 »
Hi everyone,

We'd like to let you know about a new extended protection plan we're offering to our customers.

Veer customers can now get extra peace of mind when purchasing images. Options to extend licenses are listed on every product page, and the extended protection plan is now included. Veers Customer Protection Plan comes with free coverage up to $10,000. Now, customers can purchase additional protection for 100 credits. With the extended plan, they receive up to $250,000 coverage if a claim is made against their use of Veer content (as long as they stick to the terms of the End User License Agreement). Unlike license extensions, this option has no affect on your royalties Veer assumes all the risk.

This is a great new development in our product offering. If you have any further questions, please dont hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Cheers,

Chelsey

hello Chelsey,

a bit off-topic, but now that you're here on the line...
i noticed my royalties on Veer now show like this: 3.5000 and 0.3500  etc. Is it intentional to have that many digits? It seems a bit useless... (no biggie though).

Hi Artemis,

Likely not. It could be a glitch resulting from some site updates this past weekend. I'll pass your observation on to our developers.

Thanks!

Veer / VeerContributor is live on Facebook
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:25 »
Hi everyone,

You may already be part of the Veer community on Facebook. We're pleased to announced that we've recently added a new page devoted to contributors at http://facebook.com/VeerContributor.

We've already uploaded all of Shawn's video tutorials so they're easily accessible in one place. In the coming weeks and months, we'll be bringing you more information about creative trends, popular searches, new tutorials, and other resources to help you improve your work.

We'd also love to hear from you! We've included a discussion forum, and are kicking off the conversation by asking for your feedback about Member pages. We've got some changes coming to veer.com this year, and want to know what you'd like to see. (Do feel free to post those ideas here as well--we certainly plan to stay active on MSG, since this is such a great forum for interaction!)

We hope this will be a great additional way for you to connect with us, have access to new resources, learn, share, and provide feedback.

Enjoy!

Hi folks,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you found the detailed breakdown helpful; we wanted to make sure that the changes were as clear as possible.

With respect to not sending this info out via email--big oops. Definitely an oversight, and I'll see to it that all contributors are notified about these changes either in our next newsletter or a separate email.

Cheers,

Hi all,

Thanks for the continued discussion. I'll address your follow-up questions and comments in order.

lightscribe - Thanks for the additional thoughts. We are familiar with industry standards, and while I can't speak to the specifics involved in our decision to include or exclude various features, I'll reiterate that all of your feedback on the matter is important, and we will consider it as we refine both the API program and general site functionality. (Leaf and cclapper, thanks for your additional feedback as well.)

lisafx - That's probably a safe assumption, though I encourage you to email [email protected] if you have questions about any specific items appearing in your dashboard.

masterpiece - cclapper is correct; you'll need to contact 123rf directly. Veer doesn't have any relationship or partnership with them, so I unfortunately can't provide any insight as to why your images from your 123rf portfolio are available via Photogenica.

Cheers,

Chelsey

Veer / Re: Veer Reseller API
« on: February 14, 2011, 19:12 »
Hi everyone,

Appreciate the feedback (positive and negative) and dialogue. Ill answer as many questions as I can now, and provide further information as it becomes available to me, if there are still outstanding inquiries.

Ill try to respond to everything in one post, so as not to clutter the thread too much.

Why is my real name showing on a partner site, if I use an alias on Veer?
This may be a bug, and our developers are investigating. If you use an alias on Veer, the intention is for that to be mirrored on partner sites.

Phil to show an alias instead of your full name, click Edit in the Contact Information area of your Veer Member Page (right-hand side of the page). There are fields there to enter an alias and, if you wish, a custom URL.

Do the partner sites resell to other partners?
No. Your images will only be sold through the companies weve partnered with directly. We know that trust us can be a dangerous phrase and may be asking a lot given that some of you have had negative experiences with this kind of thing in the past, and thats understandable. We hope that some reassurance will come from the fact that, as I mentioned previously, the sites were working with are partners with whom weve had established relationships on the traditional side of the business for many years, and we see this as a way for you to increase your exposure and revenue.

How will the royalties/sales appear on my dashboard?
Sales acquired through the API will be processed and shown once a month, at months end. Sales will look the same as your regular Veer sales; they will not be broken out as API sales. Were able to track this information in our own database, and will be working with the developers attempt to add more details to your own dashboard. We know this is an important issue for you.

What does an EL sale through Photogenica net the contributor?
Thomas, the simple answer to your question is, yesyou earn the amount listed on the contributor rate card, as if the image was sold at Veer. For example, even if the price of a multi-user EL is lower on a partners site than on Veer, you still earn $17.50the royalty indicated on the Veer rate card.

Are licensing terms the same for partner sites?
Yes.

Which partner sites are we working with?
The API is currently only live on Photogenica. Well update you as more partners sign on.

Regarding having an opt-out optionyour feedback on the matter is valuable, and we will still look at this as a future possibility.

Im happy to answer further questions. Thanks again for your feedback.

Veer / Veer Reseller API
« on: February 11, 2011, 19:55 »
Hi everyone,

Were excited to announce a new opportunity for Veer and our contributors that creates more visibility and sales for Veers microstock images around the world, via the new Veer Reseller API.

For years, Veer has had an established network of trusted localized resellers that market and sell our macrostock images in areas we dont sell to directly. Now weve created an API that allows us to offer Veers microstock images to our global network of resellers who want to provide lower-priced content to their customers. The API allows our resellers to easily integrate Veer microstock images into their localized websites.

The royalties youll earn for sales of your images in the Veer Reseller API are exactly the same as if youd sold the image on Veer.com (see our current rate card here: http://contributor.veer.com/images/pdf/Veer_Contributor_Rate%20Card_%28020111%29.pdf). Its just like selling your image on Veer, except that the sale happened on a reseller website.

The first partner in our reseller network use the API is http://photogenica.pl/, based in Poland. Were currently exploring opportunities with our other partners, and will notify you about other partners to adopt the API in the future.

Based on our current technology, there is no opt-out feature. However, as the royalties you earn via the Veer Reseller API are exactly the same as selling your images on Veer.com, and as our reseller network increases visibility and sales opportunities for your images, this program is a great benefit to contributors.

We do apologize for not providing more advance notice that wed be implementing this program. The timing wasnt coordinated accurately on our end, and we feel bad that this caught many of you by surprise. I hope our track record with regards to communicating updates to you speaks to the fact this isnt something we make a habit of. :)

As always, questions, feedback, and discussion are welcome.

Cheers,

Chelsey

Hi all,

Not to worry--the site Monica referenced is a legit Veer partner. We'll have some more details for you next week, but in a nutshell, we've been working on some ways to create exposure for your images in territories Veer doesn't access. Next week's communication should answer any further questions you have. We appreciate your patience!

Cheers,

Veer / Credit Pack Price Changes
« on: February 08, 2011, 19:36 »
Hi all,

Following on the successful re-launch of Veer last July, weve had some time to review the performance of our credit pack sizes and pricing.  Based on our positive growth and demand for higher volumes of credits, weve decided to make a few changes to our credit pack sizes and pricing as we continue to ramp-up our business in 2011.  Wed like to share the changes with you and what it means for contributor royalties.

Introduction of two new large credit packs

Veers larger customers have expressed a desire to purchase images in higher volumes, which is great for Veer and our contributors as well see even more downloads this year.  In response to this demand, we have added two new large credit packs of 6,000 and 12,000 credits.

These large packs have our lowest price per credit to date, of $0.82 and $0.78.  Previously the lowest price per credit was $0.88 for the 2000 credit pack.  Now, with the lowest price per credit at $0.78, it means the largest potential share of royalties is increasing from 40% up to 45%.

Price increase for eight USD/CAD credit packs (GBP/EUR excluded)

With increased customer demand for credits, weve also decided to increase the price of some mid-sized credit packs in US and Canadian dollars only.  This increase is between 1% and 14%.  See the table below for the breakdown.

Contributor Royalties

For simplicity and transparency, Veer pays contributor royalties at $0.35 per credit regardless of the size of credit pack purchased by the customer.  With the pricing changes to our credit packs, contributors still earn the same royalty per image.  For example, just as before, if a customer downloads a Large image for ten credits the contributor gets $3.50.

Because royalties are currently set at $0.35 per credit and because the credit pack prices have changed, this means the contributor percentage share of the price per credit has changed as well in some instances.  For some credit packs, there is no change. For others, the contributor share goes down between 0.2% and 5%, while for the new 6,000 and 12,000 credit packs, the percentage share increases between 3% and 5% above the previously largest pack of 2000 credits.

Since there are similar sized increases and decreases to royalty rates as a result of these changes, the overall royalty rate for most contributors will be largely unchanged.  As such, we are maintaining the contributor royalty per credit at $0.35 for this credit pack price change.  If there are future credit pack price changes, we will review the contributor royalty per credit, as we have done in this case, and make adjustments based on the given circumstances.

See the updated Veer Contributor rate card here.

Questions and discussion are welcome. Feel free to respond here, or email us at [email protected].

Cheers,

Chelsey

Veer / Re: A new opportunity for Brian
« on: February 03, 2011, 13:06 »
Hello!

Thanks to Brian for the kind words. Were certainly going to miss having him as part of our Community Content Editing team, but know that hell be a huge asset to the macro contributor platform project. Hes been an outstanding leader for our editing team and his new colleagues are lucky to have him!

While Im new to most of you, many of you are very familiar to me, as Ive been reading the forum for a few years since becoming involved in Veers microstock strategy. We truly consider the community here a very important part of the development and evolution of our vision. We love hearing your feedback, for better or worse, and do take all of it into consideration. I hope that many of the strides we made last year reflect that, and I hope youll be inspired to engage in further dialogue with us in 2011 and beyond.

I came to Veer with a formal education in art and photography, and my history here has included time spent as an image researcher, editor, and most recently, Content Curator. In that role, I worked closely with our editors to shape image selection guidelines that aim to balance the needs of both contributors and customers, and reflect the essence of the Veer brand. Were continually refining our practices, and want to help inform your decisions about what to shoot and submit by providing more resources and guidance this year.

Ill leave it at that for now, and welcome your questions and comments. I look forward to getting to know you allif youre planning to be at SXSW in Austin this March, please come by the Veer booth at the tradeshow to say hi in person.

And please dont hold my Canadian accent against me. ;)

Cheers,

Chelsey
