Crestock.com / Re: Crestock - new owner?

This is what they are saying in their blog.
I've always liked Crestock but they have damaged their reputation with contributors tremendously this past year. Hope they can win us back!

What the Crestock Acquisition Means to Contributing Artists

To Crestock's Contributing Artists:

In a separate notice, we advised you that the assets of Crestock were acquired by Masterfile Corporation, a Canadian stock photo agency on July 1, 2010.

Here is some additional information of interest to photographers and illustrators contributing images to Crestock:

Masterfile is headquartered in Toronto with a European headquarters in Dusseldorf, sales offices in London, Milan & Paris and agents in over 100 other countries. The company is big enough to compete with the giants, but small enough to be responsive to all its stakeholders. There are 80 employees in Toronto and 24 in Europe. The Toronto office sells directly into the USA - in fact, only 10% of Masterfile's global sales are to Canadian clients.

The new Crestock Corporation. Crestock's founder, Geir Are Jensen in Norway, will continue to work with the company as a senior advisor. Gudmund Aarseth, in Scotland, who has been responsible for day-to-day operations since late 2009, will also continue with the business. He will transition back to his preferred role as a website design consultant for Crestock. We plan to add a number of people to the organization in the coming year to improve service levels and bring more global microstock experience to the company. Steve Pigeon, Masterfile's president and founder (that's me) will oversee the transition. Of course, we will be drawing on Masterfile's management experience and some pretty talented staff to help build a better Crestock.

What's in it for you?

1.Payouts. The first order of business will be to get all unpaid royalties (a.k.a. "commissions") paid to artists who have previously requested payouts. This process will be completed within two weeks. You can rest assured that payments will be regular and timely from now on.
2.Image backlog. Crestock currently has a considerable backlog of new images in the editing queue. We will get that cleared within two months. In the meantime, we are adding experienced image inspectors and editors to our team to handle larger volumes - so we will welcome your new image submissions and will move them through the process quickly.
3.Quick Response Time. Over the past year, Crestock operated with reduced staff which restricted their ability to respond to questions and problems. Effective immediately, you can expect a response to your e-mail inquiries within 24 hours (weekends not included).
What else can you expect to see from Crestock?

Advertising and promotion. Look for a lot more media buzz as we work with our ad agency and marketing staff to build Crestock's sales aggressively.

Globalization. We will expand Crestock into a multi-language, multiple currency business in the course of the coming year, in line with the capabilities of Masterfile.

Legal improvements. We have updated the general legal terms on the website, added a membership agreement and replaced the content upload agreement and the image licensing terms and conditions granted to clients for our mutual protection. We have also added new model and property releases to the site for your convenience (and legal protection).

The new Artist Image Upload Agreement is a fairly lengthy document compared to Crestock's old one, but it spells out exactly how we are going to work together and clearly defines your rights and ours. In my considerable experience at Masterfile, I've learned that good contracts make good friends. You will be required to read and accept the new agreement before you can upload any new images to Crestock but you can still request and receive a payout without approving the new agreement.

Crestock went through a rough patch over the past year and we appreciate that you hung in there with them. We think you'll see a considerable improvement under Masterfile's guidance, but talk is cheap: ultimately, your continued relationship with Crestock will depend solely on our ability to do a good job for you.

And that's our goal: We're going to give this company our best shot... so you can give us yours!

I've always done very well at Crestock but am not happy with the way this site is going.
I have several payments pending since February and still nothing. Won't be uploading anymore. >:(

« on: June 17, 2010, 12:05 »
It's easy to do...no hassle. I'm thankful it's an online form and and we don't have to fax it.

I agree...very easily done and approval was within 3 hrs.  :)

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia and Witholding Taxes!
« on: December 03, 2009, 09:28 »
I have contacted FT support with the following question:  "I am an individual living in a tax treaty country. If I submit a W-8BEN WITHOUT AN ITIN, will Fotolia deduct tax on my US sales at the reduced tax treaty rate?"   It seems like a simple question.   I'm waiting on a response.

I previously contacted them with the same question, and they responded that I should contact my tax advisor to find out how to fill out the forms. ???  That was NOT what I asked.  This is a question about Fotolia policy.

This time I hope they answer the question with a simple yes or no.

I submitted the W8-BEN without an ITIN, and have now received the following email from FT:

"Dear Contributor,
We are happy to inform you that your U.S. IRS Withholding tax form has been validated. Thank you for providing the appropriate tax information. By complying with the U.S. IRS tax law and submitting the tax form, you are not subject to automatic tax withholding at the appropriate rate. Rather, withholding tax, if applicable, may be at a reduced or zero withholding rate.
Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Best Regards,
Fotolia Team"

So, that seems to indicate that FT (like SS) will deduct tax at the appropriate tax treaty rate, without the need for an ITIN.

Hi Robyn,

I also submitted the W8-BEN without an ITIN and received the same email but it is also the word "may" that  Sharpshot quoted that I have a problem with.
It is very unclear. I can't believe how little help and responses we are receiving from them. The FT forum is practically empty over there with little help and advice. We criticized SS at the time but they were a lot more helpful.
If we do need an ITIN they are sure not giving us a lot of time to get it.

« on: October 02, 2009, 09:55 »
I'm not a big fan of the changes done recently with MostPhotos 3.0 but I have to say sales have really picked up.
I'm having at least 1 sale a day this past week.
Before I was having about 2 sales a month so for me there is something definitely changing over there!

Veer / Re: Losing my enthusiasm for Veer
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:54 »
Well, I'm encouraged by sales so far. I've had about $20 in sales, 7 downloads, with 245 images online and 10 rejections.
They are new and I remain quite positive by what I see so far.

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!

I've uploaded 30 last week and all were approved with about 83 still pending.
Very frustrated with 100 upload limit  :(

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!

Yes Lisa, it's Weekly... for now. They said they will revised that number as needed. My guess is they don't want to overload the system and the reviewers yet in case something bad happens. I'm sure they beta-tested it but I think we could say we are in open-beta mode and things will probably change again before the launch around the end of july.

Thanks a lot for the response, Talanis.  :)

100/week is extremely slow going if they are serious about building a collection.  Hopefully they will increase the upload limits once they get their bearings.

FWIW their submission process is one of the easiest around.  Totally hassle free other than the limits.

I'm hoping it will change also!
Very easy submission process like Lisa said and I'm anxiously waiting to upload more.

Veer / Re: Veer Marketplace Opens for Submissions!
« on: June 09, 2009, 09:45 »
They image processing does not work properly. Gives an error on a half of images I tried to upload. These images has been submitted everywhere so I do not think they are broken.

I'm having the same problem

I had the same problem. Only one of the 10 images uploaded successfully without an error. After many frustrating hours of re-uploading I discovered that the keywords of all the images that return an error were entered with Irfaview. The one that made it through I used PixVue. I had to edit all my images using PixVue to re-enter all my keywords and after this the files uploaded with no problems.

All 10 images were since accepted.  :)

Thanks Eco, deleted keywords and descriptions from files that I used infraview and loaded okay. Waiting for review

Brian, I believe infraview is a very common keywording tool, can whatever bug in reading IPTC data be fixed to allow upload of files edited with infraview ?

I'm having the same problem. I decided to upload with FTP  about 15 images without keywords attached. All uploaded successfully and then added keywords after.
If I try to upload images with FTP or one at a time with keywords attached I get a message saying images loaded unsuccessfully unknown error.
I guess I will wait to upload any more until this issue is resolved. I upload to over 10 sites and this is the only one I'm having FTP problem issues with...

Canstock is starting to do quite well for me right now!
Reached a very good payout this month!

If you enter your SV user name in the search box for Veer Marketplace the search will return all of your images that have been transferred from SV to Veer.

-Don

I did a search that way and my port showed  up.
Thanks Don!

My images have been moved over and are showing up on VM but of course I can't log in yet.

Congratulations, I'm sure you will do very well there.

I can't see any of mine yet, I received the 'marketplace' acceptance email from SV, I'm starting think this may have been an error. I hope not. :(

Massman,thank you.
I couldn't find them at the beginning but did a search for "champagne"  for one of my better selling images and found them. For now I think this is the only way to find if your port has been moved.

Yaymicro / WOW! That was quick!!
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:54 »
I just requested a payment from YayMicro. I swear this is true, within 10
minutes it was deposited in my PayPal account!!
I don't think that has ever happened for me before on any site. Usually it takes a few
days first before it is deposited into PayPal.
Thanks YayMicro!!

I am over the payout limit largely thanks to a deal they did with a 3rd party site.  Hopefully they can do a few more like that, if we support them and give them some time.

I'm also over payment limit (over $60.00) from a 3rd party site. I have and will continue to upload.
I hope they do well and have great success for the future!

I am the author of ( http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-2180741-abstract-background-of-holiday-lights.html) There was no plug-in used in that photo. It's a blurred focus of christmas tree lights with a few stamps of little stars. That's all...

I probably used the wrong word in choosing "plug-in" because I could not find a good way to describe it.  Thanks for posting some info about it.  It's a beautiful photo!

I think I came across a little too harsh. I meant to add a smile face at the end of my post!
Anyway, thanks for the compliment! ;)

I was doing a search on this topic because I saw a bokeh photo with starbursts and wanted to know how to do it lol.   (never thought to search for "plug-in" duh!)

Anyway - do all sites accept this combination of photos and plug-ins?  I saw this photo on shutterstock today

 http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-2180741-abstract-background-of-holiday-lights.html

and that is what got me thinking about this.
