Shutterstock.com / Re: SS sells mostly outside US?
« on: September 08, 2009, 14:49 »
Curious - where did you find these stats on the site?

Not spectacular for me so far anyway.
I did enjoy a very good August so I can't complain.

Fingers crossed, sales should become steady enough from here on.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Image Effects - Do They sell?
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:16 »

depends what you mean by 'image effects'?
I have seen photos that look to have been colorized and are in amomg the most popular.
Also seen pics where effect frames have been added.

Do you submit photos with image effects and do they sell for you?
Which sites are the best bet for submitting to?

New Sites - General / Re: The Great Silence
« on: September 07, 2009, 03:03 »
Has anybody noticed the great silence coming from Pixamba?
Not a peep here on MSG and still no Forum on site.
dumb question, under the assumption that your work is there, is anything selling?
Yes - I have some images there but so far no sales.
I dont know if anybody is selling there either.

Seems to me that:

   1) You can never properly evaluate your own work and
   2) In general everyone gets a few accepted that should have been rejected.

Few have any room to complain.

I agree Fred - "you win some - you lose some" and the game goes on.
We all have been through bad patches of rejections but you learn to live with it.

What I find - for me anyway, is that new images that have done really well when first uploaded have continued to sell on a regular basis.

If they "shine" at the start, they will have established themselves and will continue to do well as they have pushed themselves up in the 'most popular' search.

At the moment, it appears as if the search doesn't lean as heavily as it did in the past towards new images.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Microstock or not?
« on: August 31, 2009, 14:43 »
Well, this artist may have some images that you might not consider microstock, but if you go further into the portfolio, there is ceratinly a lot of micro stuff there as is evident for the number of sales made.

I have always considered DT to be more open to creative work and I like that.

General Stock Discussion / BigStock Raises Payout To $50
« on: August 19, 2009, 14:50 »
Iv'e just learned that BigStock has raised their payout to $50.
Well, at the moment that is a bit of a backstep for me as my sales there are not all that great.
What do you think?

New Sites - General / Re: Tuwemei - FT reseller?

Also found a few of mine there.
Maybe FT can come on and explain if it is related to them.

I'm not sure but there could be an option there where you agree that refused can be considered go into free images.
It's worth checking your account options.

July was my BME there.
August is a bit slower, but can't really complain.

Things have gone very quiet at Pixamba - have you noticed?
And still no forum.

Is this supposed to be answered from the perspective of a buyer or a contributor?

That's a good question Whatalife -I suppose, it's for whoever is reading this topic!

General Stock Discussion / Best Designed Site (Poll)
« on: July 31, 2009, 08:43 »
Which of the top micro sites do you think has the best design?
Not talking here about how easy it is to upload etc. but just the general and best  overall appearance and one you find most pleasing.
Also, if you have any comments on how certain sites could be improved.

My vote goes to DT.

If you could set up a Poll we could have a vote.

Have sold quite a few on Redbubble - but to promote yourself there you really have to keep pretty active in the community.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Up surge in your SS On Demand sales?
« on: July 24, 2009, 15:34 »
Seems more like a smooth spot in the road to me ;)

Unfortunately I don't have the same experience.  They are still only 4-6/day for me.  Subscriptions are still ruling in my SS sales.

Hope I catch some of what you have, though!
Same here - just as normal!

Bigstock.com / Re: How are you doing at BigStock?

Sales are very few for me these days at BigStock.
Sad to say, it's presently my worst performing site.

David, your forum construction is taking some time.
Is there a hold up with the cement delivery? :D

Would be nice to have it so that people could interact more and get ideas etc going.

cool, thanks.

I always liked

Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop by ansel adams

Three or four in a lifetime would be my way of looking at it!

Nice update-  but I wish it would translate into sales for me! >:(

Sales depend on several factors: How many images on line. What type of images. Size and quality of the images.

You do not have a link to your BigStock port so nobody can offer suggestions on improving your sales.

Why hide links to sites your on (or anyone else for that matter) is it only so a person can talk here anomalously without fear of reprisals from the sites thay are on? If yes, make nice remarks about the sites earning money for you and let others see what you do.

Best of luck to you,
-Larry
Larry, I was merely trying to say that sales at BigStock were not so good at the moment. I didn't set out to be critical of the site as I have sold quite a lot of images there.
As regards links, I dont "hide" them - I just dont publish them - a personal choice.

Thanks for your response.
