General Stock Discussion / Re: October 2012 Earning Thread

BME for me. Video sales were way up, and helped by a great month on Alamy.

Excel. Track monthly totals from each site - separated for both photo and video sales, and track various stats from that.

Came flying out of the blocks this month on 123rf for the first few days, then stopped and nothing since.

Over the last few months, while my photo sales have been plummeting, my video sales have been well on the up. So they are averaging themselves out. iStock has been especially evident of this.

No movement there for me.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Mayor sites going down

<DAYDREAMING>Until now Asia does not seem to be a big thing in the stock industry (correct me if I`m wrong), but imagine a 2 - 3 Billion People market opening up suddenly without experienced and yet skilled competition.</DAYDREAMING>
I have found several images of mine illegally on far east Asian websites (i.e. RM from Alamy), and I haven't had any success in getting them taken down.
Not for a minute that all Asian sites would steal images, but people worry about sites like Pinterest and at least I can always get them taken down from there if I find them.
That said, iStock were particuarly targetting Japan a while back.
The other thing is to provide content relevant to that market if you want to sell there.

Or you can just go to the mall here and buy a DVD with thousands of the best stock images from all your favorite stock photographers for a couple of dollars. Right next to your $5 copy of Photoshop. Still a long long way to go here in Southeast Asia.

Pond5 / Re: First Sale on Pond5

How are you guys managing to add 2 model releases to photos. For me it always only accepts the first release i add :/
I've alas just one solution: create a new files with the releases attached...

I just stitch them together in Photoshop and save as new files for each combo, and use the combined file. Same as for iStock.

The past 3 months have been really slow for me there. Also happens to be ever since I queried the really low royalty on a video with support.

Pond5 is still right up there. Most people I talk to it is either Pond5 or Shutterstock that is currently their best earner for footage.

Review times at Pond5 have blown out a lot lately, but you can either sit and wait for your clips to be reviewed. Or you can spend that time shooting and uploading more. The latter is usually a lot more effective.

Shutterstock seems to have the quickest review times for footage lately. Revostock is also usually within a few days.

1. With regards to sales, we're looking to more than double the figure. 2011 was great for us, we're looking to make 2012 greater. Ultimately your sales as a whole will more than just improve. We are having month after month of improving sales, spurred on by the growth - We are spending more on advertising and promotions than ever before with more campaigns coming up soon, we're allocating a large proportion of sales revenue into various marketing channels and this is bearing fruit - I believe that most have enjoyed the increased sales throughout 2011. We're not slowing down on this.

So they're earning more and more and still that isn't enough for them, so they have to take money from our own cut. Does he know he doesn't make any sense? Does he even care if it does, since he knows the vast majority won't quit.

Sounds just like iStock, report increasing and fantastic profits, but to help us survive, we're going to need all you contributors take a pay cut.

I was having decent steady sales there, but then all of a sudden they all stopped 3 weeks ago, and nothing since.

General - Stock Video / Re: 123RF footage - how are sales?
« on: June 29, 2012, 09:26 »
Had a couple of footage sales this month. Including an HD for $14. I had a long back and forth with support trying to work out how I could get such a low royalty, when the cheapest credit is $0.78 (cheapest for footage sales), so the minimum I should get is about $25, as I have opted out of the API Partner sales.

Long story short, the final answer I got was:

Quote
These credits come from our PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES such as the case of giving away CREDITS to prospective clients whom we think, require a bit of a test drive on the 123RF system before they make their first purchase.
A demo if you like, we give these out at our discretion.
The client DID NOT PAY for these credits, it's given to them courtesy of 123RF.com.

Therefore, seeing as 123RF is giving away these credits, it comes out from our Advertising and Promotions Budget
and there is a cost attached to it - 45 cents per credit given away.
I do hope you'll see this a bonus from your business partner 123RF as the prospective client did not pay for them in the first place.

Which still doesn't compute... unless they are taking their 50% cut out of the money that comes out of their budget to pay me.

I emailed support, and they said that they are having some "temporary technical problems" with the FTP. Will be fixed, but they suggested using the multi-upload in the meantime.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Konova Slider
« on: April 23, 2012, 07:44 »
Does anyone have any experience with a Konova slider? Or do you have any recommendations of other slider options that have worked really well for you.

I am looking for a slider that is relatively portable (in size and weight), yet well made and with the option to hook up a motor drive to it.

I recently setup my own website. Currently it is just showcasing my stock photos and videos. Will see where I take it in the future.
