123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: November 23, 2008, 07:14 »
I have almost 3000 images there now and make well over $100 a month.   If IS keeps going like is has over the last 4 months...they might be down around the same in another 4 months  :(

Just to show you how bad IS is getting on downloads........yesterday, I made more on Big Stock than I did on IS :o.....and I'm a diamond on IS......  If your not exclusive....your photos get lost in the great IS Abiss...

I surely hope that they do change it, as my sales have tanked notably since April of this year. I am now down over 50%.  IS used to be my #1 money maker and now they are down to #4 and steadily headed downward.  When you factor in all the heartaches that you have to go thru to upload there and the way they treat us like second hand citizens.......There is becoming no motivation to upload there any more.  I have been diamond with them for several months now, but my sale still continue to plummet.....I used to always have my 35 images in the Queue....put anymore I upload to them last.....this can't be good for them ......??? or can it.   Almost everybody that has posted here is saying the same thing.......Sales are way down.........for nonexclusives anyway.  I don't think this can last....there are a lot of quality photos out there by NonExclusives that are getting buried by junk from exclusives....the buyers are going to get tired of this at some point....I hope.   I never thought I see the day when I started contemplating about not uploading to IS......but it is coming very fast.

I'm in a similar situation as Fotografer....before the summer started I averaged around 60 downloads a day....on a good day I would get close to 100.........NOW  I get around 20 to 30 on the average and on the weekends......wow....one of these days it's going to be zero.  IS used to be one of my best money makers...but they are really dropping now.  The site that is getting better and better is Dreamstime....my income has continued to climb there......all the other sites are remaining about the same with the exception of SS which as always....if you don't feed it....it drops slowly over time.  If things keep going as they are......at some point I may say that IS is not worth the frustration that they cause me >:(.......not yet....but some days I sure am tempted.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: It's not just Alexa.
« on: October 08, 2008, 11:55 »
I tend to agree with Alexa numbers....they show a huge drop in traffic while all the other stock sites remain steady.  My sales at IS have taken a dive over the last 4 months also....right in line with the traffic numbers from Alexa.  Plus Istock's search for best match is SOOOO much in favor of Exlcusives....it gets really frustrating sometimes.  I understand that they have to offer something (some advantage) to get people to go exclusive......but come on........   If you do a search on anything.....here is my example with the keywords "family, mother, child, baby"

 http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&text=family+baby+mother+child&oldtext=&textDisambiguation=&oldTextDisambiguation=&majorterms=&fileTypeSizePrice=%5B%7B%22type%22%3A%22Image%22%2C%22size%22%3A%22All%22%2C%22priceOption%22%3Anull%7D%2C%7B%22type%22%3A%22Video%22%2C%22size%22%3A%22All%22%2C%22priceOption%22%3Anull%7D%2C%7B%22type%22%3A%22Flash%22%2C%22size%22%3Anull%2C%22priceOption%22%3A%22All%22%7D%2C%7B%22type%22%3A%22Illustration+%5BVector%5D%22%2C%22size%22%3Anull%2C%22priceOption%22%3A%22All%22%7D%5D&showPeople=&printAvailable=&exclusiveArtists=&extendedLicense=&collectionPayAsYouGo=1&collectionSubscription=1&illustrationLimit=Exactly&flashLimit=Exactly&showDeactivatedFiles=&membername=&userID=&lightboxID=&downloaderID=&approverID=&clearanceBin=&color=&copySpace=&orientation=7&minWidth=0&minHeight=0&showTitle=&showContributor=&showFileNumber=1&showDownload=1&enableLoupe=1&order=Best+Match&perPage=&within=4

I could only find one non exclusive in the first two pages of photos (and it is a very nice photo) and I could probably go many more pages before starting to find very many non exclusive...but I don't want to waste my time .......some of the photos are really nice and probably deserve a high rank.....but some of them....wow...   Now go to the last pages in the search....300 or so....    Can you find any Exclusive members here????  I don't think so.   There are some very nice photos here.....much nicer than the ones in the first couple pages....or at least on par with them....here is one example that's a nice photo....not a great photo...but nice...surely it doesn't deserve to be on the last page......http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/lifestyle/families/3976128-mother-with-children-on-meadow.php?id=3976128

You really have to have a very very nice photo as a non exclusive in order to get up the ranking .......like I said....it's just so frustrating to be treated like a second hand citizen.  Ya...I make money on the site....but at what point to you say...it's not worth it??

IS reviews can be soooooooo upsetting......I swear sometimes it seems like they are out to get......ME.......!!          Lately I have been getting rejections for all sorts of things.......

Keywords not relevant.....ok...I can deal with this one...they are right...to a point...I need to cut down on the implied keywords...but if you look at Dreamstime and check out the keywords that find a photomany many times people look up things with very general keywords.yet IS does not want these.they want only specific keywords.    I listed JAVA on a coffee bean picture and it was rejected for keywords not relevant..come on..it was JAVA coffee.   I had another picture of coffee beans rejected for the word Cappuccino.   True there was no Cappuccino there..but coffee beans make cappuccinoto me that seems relevant.   I see the point on this..to a degree.but man sometimes I think they are way to picky

But here is a new one   They rejected one with five model releases, because the witness signature looked different in a couple of the releasesthen they noted to me that the Model release is a legal document so they are basically implying that I forged the signatures of the witness.  The witness on all of these is my wife.ya her signature is slightly different on some of the releases.but if you look at the handwriting closely you can tell that the letters are made the same way..  So now I guess we are responsible for how our models and witnesss sign their names.   MAKE SURE YOU SIGN EXACTLY THE SAME give me a break I resend it in and sent a little nasty email with it..I really upsets me that they insinuate that I am forging my model releases.
It makes me feel much better when I see other people complaining about ISs reviewsat least Im not alone.

Are there any Exclusives out there that are having this same problem?????

One other note:   Over the last 2 weeks.IS sales have really slowed down..all other sites are fine..anybody else notice this?

« on: July 29, 2008, 03:54 »
I have always liked StockXpert and the high percentage they gave us....but this does not sound good. If we allow one site to pay .30 for EL equivilant usage.....then all the other sites will follow. We might as well just put all our pictures on Flickr and give them away.  I will give it a chance for a month or two.......but if it starts looking bad...........I too will be deleting all of my 3,000 photos.......

I am soooo tired of all the sites degrading the worth of our photos.....

waiting for a specific day for a specific site would seriously impact my workflow.

I agree with this totally. When I get pictures done, I start to upload. It gets way to confusing to try to upload 2 here...10 here...5 here.  If I have 20 photos done they all get uploaded...to all sites. Work flow is everything to me. I have a system and it works so I stick with it. Sometimes my photos get approved on SS on Saturday....sometimes on Monday....it doesnt really seem to matter they still get downloads.  I'm sure there is some advantage to upload your photos for they show up at the beginning of the week, but if you upload a lot of photos all the time.....it's not worth worrying about timing. Just put quality photos up and they will sell continuously....no matter when you upload them.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Best match woes...
« on: February 27, 2008, 03:55 »
Well, I just figured out another item that drastically effects your placement in the best match search.   Big time.....  If you opt out of Extended licenses you will all but disappear off the radar on best match....regardless of how many downloads a photo has or how popular it is.

That was what my problem was. Last week i decided to opt out of Extended licenses due to the small amount that we receive from them...WOW a whole 20%......  that is when all my photos disappeared into the abiss.  Yesterday i changed it back and opted in for extended licenses....and guess what....today my photos are back in view.

So i guess that IS's way of forcing you to allow EL's .....no matter what the price.  If you opt out.....your sales will fall off dramatically...  tough choice....I guess I grin an bear it.. :-\

Interesting insight  hatman....I didn't know that....people are always trying beat the system :)

« on: February 26, 2008, 13:31 »
Istocks best match really...really sucks.and  favors exclusive people to the MAX, in fact it might as well not even include us non exclusives. It is one thing to pay exclusive more for being exclusiveok I can live with that and it make good business sense, but if I have a good photo then it should have the same possibilities of being found as every other photobut NO..not Istock.

I have lots of Education photos on the site...I just did a keyword search of  Education Childhood   if you search by most downloaded I have photos on most pages starting with page 3. My best photo has 405 downloads......but if you search by best match....Holy.sh*%^&*  I cant even find my best sellerI looked thru 50 pages and not even 1 of my photosbut if you search to the very very end.starting on page 290 and counting backwards youll find all my photos in fact many of theses pages have only my photossuch as page 289.  How is it that ALL my photos are in one big group.  Pretty simple..I am not exclusive so pick up the table scraps. >:(

I sure hope buyers dont use best match too much, cusus no exclusives are going to get the short end of the stick.

In contrast sites like DT seem to much fairer on the best match search. I hope they pick up more market share so IS will be forced to get off their high horse and treat us a little fairer.

But have you noticed that many of the big time sellers have thier EL prices set VERY VERY low????  I'm not sure why....I would think that setting the EL price at $25 is way too low, but maybe they sell 10 time more that way.....any thoughts?   I have mine at $100, and get a couple EL's every month....

YIPPE!!!!!!!!!   :) up and running and the new model release setup is now in place. This is GREAT.....now if only IS would do the same....figure the odds of that.. :o

thanks StockXpert.........this will make my life much easier and save me tons of time.

With another site, the buyer sometimes leaves a comment to say what the image is being used for.  I can then see it in action, if they are using it on a website.  That is useful.

I'll second this...it always nice to get comments from the user and they sometimes tell us where it is used. The site I get the most comments and feedback from is DT...something like that would be great.

It would also be really nice if you could make your thumbnails views larger...sometimes...actually many times it is really hard to see the quality of a photo with the current thumbs. I think it would help on DL's ...if a buyer is confident on the quality...they are more likely to download it..... FT probably has the best veiw for that now...with a wonderful zoom...

« on: October 04, 2007, 05:23 »
what's really odd about this is that if you look as some of the big players they have thier EL prices set very low????? some at $20........I don't understand that.  Are they getting that many more EL sales because of the lower price to make up for it???

 beats me...

I have set them all to the max price $100 .....if somebody wants it......I think $100 is not going to stop them from buying it....I still don't like getting only $37 out of $100, but oh well.   I wish EL's were 50%...they should be.

that's crazy.........if you have a $250 sale....it would be basically the same as an extended sale elsewhere.

StockXpert.com / Re: Subscription Coming Soon to StockXpert
« on: October 03, 2007, 09:21 »
Ya......I'm not to keen on the subscription sales myself.....but I must say that it hasn't effected my sales at DT very much...so we'll see.  I would feel much better of having a tiered system on the subscriptions as mentioned before.   say .25 for small, .40 for med, .60 for large. ect...ect.

I really don't like it when I have an XL or XXL photo downloaded and I only get .25 cents....it just doen't sit right.

If they offer a opt in opt out option that will be great. I will try it for a while and see.........before I opt out.... :-\

Has anybody else recieved a message in your email on Istock as follows??  Not sure what to make of it...........

Greetings,

we are looking for sources we can buy photos from. If you own the photos that you are legally able to sell please read the following.

1. We are not looking for exclusive or transfer of all rights.

2. We must be able to use purchased photos with the rights for any of our needs with the exceptions:
- we will not be re-selling actual photos as computer files in any way;
- we will not make these photos available for download or rights transfer.

3. We will be using these photos on our online sign-design engine. Photos will be shown and manipulated only within our web based sign shop. These photos will be also used to produce different kinds of signs, banners, and other visual advertising products.

4. Files must be high-resolution JPEGS, TIIF, EPS or AI with DPI - 150-300 dpi 1000px minimum

If you own any photos you may be interested in selling on these terms please find the way to show us these photos (maybe like a thumbnails or on your website, etc) so we could pick and choose the ones that we'll like.

We will make our best price offer depending on the quality, composition and the number of the pictures we may be interested in.

« on: October 01, 2007, 12:19 »
This one has downloaded once or twice a day for 6 months and suddenly it has stopped at 320 dls on IS.  Still resonable sales and does very well on SS too.

Wish I could adjust the levels in it, but oh well.

You can.... I contacted IS and asked to do it on my best seller, they told me to send them the new file and if it was better...they would change the file....so that's what I did.

Crestock.com / Re: are you submitting to crestock?
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:35 »
I have next to given up loading to Crestock. They reject far too many and the effort to upload outways the number they select.  I have over a 90% acceptance at all the other sites, but I have somewhere around 40 or 50% at Crestock.  I have also only had .25 downloads ....never any more....so after a year...I have a whole 20 some dollars.

If I ever get bored and have free time I may upload one here and there....just for the laugh if they reject it.

One photo that they rejected in my first batch was an Italian vineyard photo...probably my favorite photo .....It has sold several times now for EL's for unlimited copies....yet they didn't want it????  go figure.

Everything looks like it is working properly again, well at least for me. Would've been nice to have been informed that we could upload again though.

Ya....I uploaded 100 images last week and only about 10 had keywords and decriptions come thru....what a pain !!!!!! It took me way to long to add the keywords...even cut and pasting.  I wish they would just let us know.

I uploaded 5 today and they all worked ok....so I guess it up again.....???  maybe.
