It is getting to the point I am afraid of what I will find here when I sign in. DT has always treated me well. But hell no you can not give my images away for free.
I opted out!
I think what so many people are failing to understand is that DT's endgame is NOT out to give our images away for free!
They are conducting a small, limited-time test with the "big fish" partner to make sure the partner is satisfied with how it will work. If partner is indeed satisfied, a deal that could be quite lucrative will be entered, and we could benefit greatly.
DT has said they would try to retroactively pay us for those images downloaded in the test period, but I'm guessing those will be pennies compared to the many dollars that will come once the full deal is in place.
Once again... the images are free only during the initial beta test (and perhaps not free at all, if we are indeed retroactively paid)... don't throw away future dollars worrying about a few pennies you may drop along the way!
how do you know that? which agency have done any good for you/us in the latest years? IS? DP? FT? DT? your statement shows how we are in the verge of accepting anything from agencies, guess you are forgetting that hope doesn't pay bills how can you be so sure that this deal will get us many dollars in the future? and so many that you are willing to give them away for free now sorry to say but I have never expected such thought from you, I know I cannot make decisions for you but staying happy with FREE thinking of a wonderful wealthy future isn't going to help contributors and agencies as well once the buyers left will be ready to pay zero maybe you know something we don't once I see no reason to believe this will be positive

Yeah, I didn't have problems with those on my old rig (Core2Duo), I'm saying performance wise it's probably smarter to buy an Intel if you're a heavy user of PS/LR.
And still nobody ran the benchmark, funny.
how about a simple test instead of a 3 pages one?

Surprised the DT admin posted here, but even more surprised he thought this is a good deal for us. It screams BOHICA to me!
he is the CEO/founder/owner of DT

why can't we know the details behind the deal?
if not why dont you work on the deal and let us know after, ain't that more simple? why don't you try it with DT admins pictures?
I have always heard that we should read an agreement before signing

I have wasted 2 or 3 weekends uploading over 400 pictures to them and:
1 - not worth the hassle 2 - shameless 10% "commissions" 3 - won't upload anything more unless there are drastic changes (that will never happen because there are too many folks delighted with 10%)

If someone buys a mac "because it looks good on the desk", there is no point in telling that person anything about the processor or the storage.
Anyway... most people would be completely fine with an i5 pc with an SSD drive (for 600$).
Do you really think Apple is buying seconds from Intel or getting technology only after Intel or whoever doles it out to the home builders for PCs?
Once again, it is worth the extra cost for the product to look nice. People spend extra on clothes that look nice, they spend extra on furniture that looks nice, they spend more on homes, and on food that tastes better. They go to places that have more excitement of things to do and they spend more money doing so. And oh, I've even heard stories where they will spend more on unique and special images.
Strangely, I don't look at my computer. I generally look at what's on the monitor...
Yes, and with the iMac you look to your image reflected by the monitor
Well, it is less true with the new versions of the iMac, but I don't understand why they continue to not propose an alternative with a matte monitor.
For this my advice was to buy a Mac Mini + the monitor you want. You could buy a MacBook Pro + the monitor you want too, it is probably one of the best solution if you have not too much problem of cost
ok there is a few glare, I would say not much and zero if you close the window curtains, then it becomes perfect I must say I have never had a mac computer before, I have/had all the other stuff they sell and I must say I am quite impressed with the iMac apart from the wow impression sitting on the desk, still soon to draw many conclusions but you should really see one in action on a dark room to talk about glare

Anyone wants to run some benchmarks?
I can run something on my PC (like a complicated PS action) and we can compare times, so we have a quantitative measure, not just anecdotal data.
go ahead
Ok, done.
The test is from here and it contains both the file and the action:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/photoshop.php
My overall result is 128.1 sec. My configuration (without the monitor) was 955 euro, which means I paid 7.45 euro for a second.
what a big page man, not ready to read it all, how about a smaller version?

Most agencies I know charge on their European sites (for example de.dreamstime.com or Shutterstock) Euro for credits, but still pay out the credit in USD.
Or maybe only if the language is set to a European language other than English, or maybe they track the Geo-Location via IP, but the conversion issue persists.
Edit: So if you want to see it the other way, Fotolia might be one of the few agencies that favors the European photographers regarding the Euro/Dollar-Gap.
you must be getting EUR that is why

All true Beppe. Not really a fair comparison.
While I love my iMac, I don't like having to wait for service. Generally you have to go to a store, schedule a technician to look at your system before they will even consider repair. That can take days. I just had a malfunctioning Apple keyboard and took it back to the store. They would not exchange it until I scheduled time 2 days later with a technician. I waited and they exchanged it. Then my new one failed. I threw it in the trash and am using my old windows keyboard. That is an area where Apple needs to improve.
a lot of bad luck man, just got mine yesterday, still going strong ahah
Don't spit on your monitor...lol
hahahah now I have to clean it

I am included in this wonderful thing and YES I love it to bits!
and as usual agencies can't change these great features because they have some filthy clauses on their agreement contracts...
