I'm finally able to do that. I've finished uploading and am happy with my site for now. Now I can work on new content.
Same for me here - all set up so far and time now to produce new content again. Will be on two exciting trips over the next 3 weeks so I am sure there will be plenty of new content on the way. Leo, I wish you good success with the new version, cant wait to check it out! Thanks for your great efforts so far!

It abandons Processing Files somewhere between 200 and 300 files - I receive no more mails after the second one (200 processed) and if I check back (even after 10 hours now) only the last 200 something submitted images display related ones on their image detail page.
Hence I could imagine either we find a way that the script continues to run or it could check maybe upon start which images were processed recently (<24h should be sufficient) and start with the next one. That way I could process all images by calling the script several times - might also be saving resources for other users that upload frequently and do not need to process all images each time?
....
it really does sound like a script that times out, but without an error being displayed
a simple fix would be to process the images from most recently updated (this can be done in the sql select that sets up the processing) then, if the script fails, the next time it would process new items rather than the ones already done
sorry, I've been offline over the weekend... :-) I tried it again this morning and again, I only received mails for 100 and 200 images being processed. After checking my images online it became obvious that only my latest approx. 260 images feature the "similar images" widget. Hence I guess we need to find a way for a less resource-hungry processing - since in my case (2,800 photos online now) the processing of hundred photos takes about 6 minutes, I figured a complete run (give it would work) would take about 168 minutes (about 3 hours!) - even if the server would allow a script to run for such a long time, I doubt this makes sense every time you upload new images. Hence the approach of processing images that were not processed yet - that way if you start the script enough times, all images will be processed. Maybe add a second option "process all images" so that from time to time you can build the whole references from scratch?

Indeed, a very good point! Especially when you use the "latest images" widget and do NOT want that similar images appear together. So far I used to publish images from draft at the desired time, but setting the date of course is a much better approach, thanks for pointing out!

I might be confused. Did you say it abandons the files after a while - or it just stops sending emails? ie, after a certain point files do not get updated.

Ah, this might be the difference to Steve: With my 2700 images available, I guess this might be the problem. And now? Here's a little tidbit for you -
The more image you have the more time it will take per image.
For instance, if you have 1000 images, each of those 1000 images are checked against those 1000 images.
If you have 3000 images, each of those 3000 images are checked against 3000 images.
See a pattern? It multiplies your time.

hm, timestamp between my mails of 100 and 200 images is 4 mins, I also have about 40-50 keywords. Seems that my server is much slower then, although also bluehost. Might this be part of the problem? Is the script simply taking too long to process more of my images? Looking at the email timestamps, it takes 4 minutes to do 340 images and I normally have around 45 keywords per image.

nope, it does NOT complete, the wheel keeps on turning forever (I did wait for about an hour each time) and if I check which images feature related images, they end up each time about the last 200 ones uploaded, older ones do not have the related images module on their page. So just to confirm - it does complete the task, but it stops emailing you after so many?
Its possible your server takes methods to avoid spam.

One question: The generation of related images for me always stops at around 200 images - I gave it several tries and each time receive the confirmation mails regarding 100 and 200 images being processed but thats it then, no matter how long I wait. Site: franky242.net/shop/ - about 2.800 photos available. Has anyone being able to process more than 200 images? Memory should not be a problem since I have plenty allocated (bluehost) and everything else works fine, even processing large amounts of uploaded images.
Cheers, Frank

Here you go http://www.symbiostock.com/free-files/widgets_and_menus.swf
Hi Leo, you are great (I guess we all know that! :-), the mobile menu displays well in smaller resolutions. HOWEVER the menu itself does not seem to work properly, I tried using several browsers (desktop and mobile) and the problem seems to exist everywhere: No matter on which page you are, "home" does not seem to work and menu items with subitems also do not seem to work, for example on your site: Select "The orange man", then on the page select "home" (no action) and then "illustrations" (jumps to top of page the orange man). I hope I could make myself clear and you can fix? In that case the mobile menu indeed would be a great feature! :-) Good luck, thanks, Frank

Hi all, after updating both the main theme and the child today, unfortunately I had to discover that both still feature the bug that on smaller screens (mobile devices like the iPad) the main menu is missing. See http://franky242.net/shop and reduce the size of your browser window: At a certain size the main menu under the logo (about, categories, best of, ...) will disappear. Since the site is quite difficult to navigate through on these devices/resolutions, a fix would be highly appreciated. Anyone found a fix/workaround? Thanks, Frank

Hi Steve, thanks for your feedback, they are fixed now. Bloody German Umlauts in the keywords... Glad to be able to link to your site - after all it was you who gave me basic support - remember the 1&1 issue? I am now with bluehost thanks to your recommendation! :-) Cheers, Frank Hi
I came across some errors on the site. For example, look at Brands and Properties under Editorial and then go to page 2.
Or, go to Sights and Landmarks under Categories.
Thanks for including me in your partner network. I've now got 150 images online after my recent trip to the Washington DC cherry blossom festival!

In the meantime I finalized my site in a way that I can release it to the public now: MSG name: franky242 website: franky242 photography url: http://franky242.net/shopyour photo topics: Large portfolio including travel/landscape, objects, people what you're looking for: Complimentary images around the world portfolio: 2,700 online: 2,700 Since I have my complete portfolio available now (all keyworded, not all categorized however besides "all photos"), changes are high that I can provide search hits once you link to me. Currently I linked to the following sites for testing purposes: http://www.travelwitness.net/http://photo.travelling-light.net/http://stompstock.com/http://www.backyardstockphotos.com/Of course I would be happy if you include my site in your network. Please feel free to provide feedback as well - highly appreciated - thanks!

since I am done now with setting up my site http://www.franky242.net/shop for public access (thanks a million again to Leo for support regarding the categories and memory issues!), the only open item is optimization of the (child) template for access through smaller screens (iPad for example). Additionally I want to share with you some items I discovered as potential additions for the near future together with priorities I would see: Images functionality: Prio 1: Editorial Images: Since I have a lot of editorial images in my portfolio, this is my highest priority: We should be able to tag images as editorial, a red warning (customizable red text editorial use only) should be displayed in the image description, editorial images should also be labelled in the users download section and on the receipt the user receives. Additionally a label (red E?) for images on the category and search overviews would be great. Prio 1: Randomize Image Order in Category view: Each time you open a category, its contents are displayed in the same order (latest addition first, I guess) might be a bit boring for returning visitors. Randomizing the order for every call might be a welcome change? Prio 2: Display of related images on an image detail page to be honest, I have no idea yet how this might function since the user wouldd need to define images related with each other first? Prio 2: Amount of images displayed in category view: Let the user select, how many images he wants to see in one go since 32 might be a bit too few for larger collections. Prio 3: User can change sort order (downloads, latest uploads, views) in a later release it might be an idea to let the user sort his findings on the overview pages. Other functionality: Prio 1: Image Statistics List per image its views and sales to give us an idea about popularity Prio 2: Most searched keywords - compared to most used keywords that give an indication of the contributors perspective, a gadget showing most searched keywords from the users perspective might be nice. Prio 3: Vouchers users should be able to enter a voucher code upon checkout in order to retrieve a discount. This would serve two purposes: a.) a fixed discount for returning high volume buyers and b.) the abilitity for promos, for example on Facebook enter code xyz for a 20% discount. What do you think , do you have the same needs? Please feel free to comment! Symbiostock is a great development and I am eager to use new functionality in the future...

Have you guys got safe mode on? Check in Symbiostock > Testing, as that can cause processing to fail.
no, safe node is off at least for me.

Steve, unfortunately you are right with your assumptions: I also tried uploading a very small image and the processing works fine, no luck however with anything >100KB! Thanks anyway and good luck with bluehost! Leo seems like there is indeed an issue with processing larger images with several hosters, 1und 1 ( https://www.1und1.de), one of the largest German hosters seems not to support processing of images largen than 100kB. Anything you can do about that?

Steheap, many thanks for your quick and clear response! Indeed I am with 1und1 (how did you find out?) and did now place your ini-file in all the folders I considered to be relevant. Now the process script does not throw any more errors - but unfortunately nothing else happens after calling the "process" function. Anyone experienced the same? Thanks again...

First of all: Excuse me if my error report sounds sounds stupid or can easily be fixed, I am not an experienced programmer! :-(
I installed Wordpress and Symbiostock earlier today and while most things seem to work fine, I receive the following error message when trying to process the images uploaded:
Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in (I removed full path for this post)/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/wideimage/lib/WideImage.php on line 194
Warning: file_get_contents((I removed full path for this post)/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock-watermark-small.png) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in (I removed full path for this post)/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/wideimage/lib/WideImage.php on line 194

Can anyone give me a hint what I need to do? Thanks in advance, also for this great venture!

Hi Paul,
my compliments, with the latest version, the App is performing much better, I think it was a good idea to move the logic outside of the App - which gives you much more flexibility in case platforms change their format or other issues occur. I use and enjoy the App a lot, please continue your good work!

Until recently FT was performing well for me, given my still rather small portfolio. But then in April my status got updated to silver (thousand sales) and since then my sales dropped tremendously, they are now 50% of what the used to be before the "upgrade"! If I remember correctly, someone stated that FT places photos of higher ranked contributors lower in searches - if that should really be the case, then I'd be happy to downgrade again...

Hi Niakris,
is there a problem with Shutterstock at the moment, HTTP submit seems to be disabled, FTP submit does upload but not actually submit photos? Thanks for a quick update/fix...

Cool, I like it - looks very modern and gives a good idea about your work - which is great as well btw.
Some observations however:
* I find it quite disturbing that if I click on a photo, I do not end up with the hires version of that one but with the first one of that series only!
* I do not get the difference between portfolio and gallery - the latter one being quite empty anyway.
* whereas the portfolio works well on my iPad, I have issues with the other sections which are 'hidden' behind the navigation - for example need to close the navigation First before I can read "about mat'
* I was irritated by the fact that the text on 'about mat' is written in third person, not really personal communication I think - however the quotes are hilarious!
Besides the issues above, I really like your site and wish you a great success!

started a few months ago there, they are very helpful and the upload is great (files on FTP and done, not a single click afterwards)
a few sales too but still very low
I can only support that: Applied with them three days ago (this discussion made me curious) by simple sending a mail to [email protected] and stating that I want to join them. Then only hours later Alex Shcherbinin, Head of contributors management sent me a friendly mail with a well elaborated contract and after signing this I got immediate access. Upload via FTP is a breeze indeed and then the team of pressfoto.ru took care of localizing description and attributes of all images in lightspeed. Now most of my portfolio is already up and I head first views. I will be happy to keep you updated in regards of sales and other experiences, so far I can only say that they behave really professional and therefore I am more than willing to support them.
