The problem still not resolved and is the same for me since the weekend. I receive the following error message when I tried to connect (using FileZilla):

Thank you Wim.  :)

Veer / Re: Your Veer portfolio on Alamy
« on: May 26, 2012, 04:08 »
This Alamy issue just added to my growing irritation of Veer. I have yet to make up in sales this month what they have taken from me during the last round of credit card fraud, and all that I see lately is subscription sales as $0.25. Add to that their slow reviews and dwindling sales and very little remain to keep me from cancelling my account.

Veer / Re: Refunds at VEER
« on: April 27, 2012, 09:05 »
Also received 10 refunds for a total of $37.10.  What is worse is that these were all credit sales and most of the valid sales that remain are subscription sales that netted me on average less than $0.30 each. This is pathetic.  Thinking of closing my account there.  >:(

Their subs scheme has increased sales and I get a good average price. [/url]

Unfortunately that is not my experience.  Recently I had 5 sub sales for 0.17 EUR each and a week later one for 0.12 EUR. This is ridiculous for a low volume seller. I have since opted out of the sub scheme.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Another Massive Best Match Shift
« on: December 30, 2011, 12:15 »
Stimulating discussion, especially the comparison between IS and SS.

What I find interesting is that some of the IS exclusives based their defense of IS on their experience of IS in the PAST or TODAY without asking themselves objectively what about the FUTURE. What will it be like this time next year or two, three, five years from now? I get the impression that many diehard IS exclusives is suffering from denial. To survive in this volatile microstock market it is critical to keep an ear on the ground and make TIMELY decisions to counter disasters and to exploit opportunities.  If it is not clear by now that the glory days of IS is likely over I don't know what will convince you.

Everybody for himself, but for me to be exclusive to IS today is comparable to sitting on the deck of the titanic sipping sundowners totally oblivious to the fact that the ship is taking on water fast - that mighty ship believed to be unsinkable. The rest is history. Maybe you can also be a star in a movie one day.

I am not against IS, but I am objective. For me personally IS it the titanic, but I am already on my live boat. Despite the lowest income from IS this December since March 2006 when I started I still manage to increase my overall microstock income on a monthly basis. This is very encouraging and frankly I cannot give a * what IS do with their best match. If I sell something there I will take the money - if dont sell anything (like the last 5 days) I can survive quite handsomely without them.

Envato / Re: PhotoDune Non-ex Rate Increase from 25% to 33%
« on: November 22, 2011, 00:52 »
Thank you Collis

This was a smart move. I am sure Envato will soon realize that they will gain as much, if not more, from this decision as the contributors. Now the next thing that we (or some of us at least) will constantly remind you is the prices that is still too low - but lets leave that for a moment ;)

This is no bug. They are just testing a new future feature :D

It is a misguided assumption that many stock sites don't accept images from the categories you mentioned. I also shoot those subjects and with more than 2000 images in my port at all the major stock sites (except IS) I have an acceptance rate above 90% on all of them. More importantly, those images sell.

What is decisive for acceptance is quality and accurate captioning (accurate identification of the animal/plants with Latin names) and my landscapes is not generic, but a specific location (e.g. National Park). If your images meet these criteria they will be accepted everywhere.

« on: November 12, 2011, 10:17 »
Kindly email your UID and rejected images code to [email protected] so that our reviewers can re-evaluate them.

I tried this option twice and did not even get a response. Is there any other procedure that I need to follow, like posting here first?

111
And after all this trouble they will sell you HD video for $5 and pay you 25% ($1.25). That unfortunately is the hallmark of the whole Envato marketplace. Why bother?

112
I've given up arguing about commissions.  It looks like its too late, I dread to think how low a commission lots of the top contributors will accept.  It looks like microstock will be unsustainable for me, so I might as well upload everywhere and make as much as I can while I'm working on other ways to make money.

I agree with you Sharpshot. It is not the (greedy) agencies that will eventually cause the demise of the Microstock model but the contributors themselves. As long as there is support for agencies such as PhotoDune who not only pay a very low commission, but also undercutting other agencies by their low prices or RPD (revenue per download) will continue to decline to the point that you will need a huge portfolio of images just to maintain your income. This is already happening.

What I don't understand is that from the initial discussion here on MSG I got the impression from Collis (PhotoDune) that they were quite receptive for an increase in the royalty rate. I have no doubt that if we as contributors applied some pressure on them by not uploading immediately they would have increased the royalty rate. It did not happen and the rest is history. I don't think we will ever see an increase in royalty rate because they have the support of many of the top contributors and some even defend the 25% rate and their low prices here.  >:(

As you said - lets get busy uploading to PhotoDune and take what we can from this sinking ship that is Microstock.

113
Sorry Collins I just noticed an error in your message:

The sentence "Contributors get their usual commissions on all purchases." should read "Independent contributors get their usual insultingly low commission on all purchases". ;)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Photolibrary to be moved to Thinkstock
« on: September 26, 2011, 17:18 »
Here is the full story:

"You have probably already heard that Getty Images bought our partner agency Photolibrary which will close in October 2011.

You will probably be pleased to hear that we have now negotiated a partner contract with Getty Images. We can now offer you to transfer directly all the pictures which Zoonar has already activated for Photolibrary to the worldwide Getty market. The pictures will then be loaded to Thinkstock, Photos.com, and Jupiterimages and be sold via the Getty subscriptions. This way you can receive very high turnover rates. That's why we recommend you to accept the distribution via Getty Images. It will pay off for you!

Should you not wish to distribute your photos via Getty Images, we ask you to recall the concerning pictures in your Zoonar partner administration by October 9, 2011. All pictures which you recall from the partner Photolibrary by October 9, 2011, will be removed before the six months' period so that they will not be transferred to Getty Images.

In a later step, we will then offer you to activate more pictures for Getty Images. As further development work is required for this, we will let you know as soon as it is possible. But please expect that in 2-3 months.

Kind regards,

Michael Krabs
Zoonar GmbH"

Well unlike the introductory statement I am not pleased. Sorry.

Veer / Re: veer subs
« on: September 26, 2011, 17:14 »
Also opted out.

I am just concerned that there are many Veer contributors out there that don't read this forum and is fooled by the statement: Were also pleased to announce a higher royalty rate for contributors than youll find at competing microstock web sites, with royalties up to $3.75 per download".

This is utterly misleading and may fool many contributors in accepting this very bad deal.  If enough contributors opt out they might rethink their plan, but if the majority accept it they will just continue and implement it unchanged.

I hope in time he'll put his skills towards something more constructive and less DEstructive.

Such as hacking into IS and FT and increase our royalties to the level that they should be. :D

Envato / Re: PhotoDune August Stats and Update
« on: September 05, 2011, 04:03 »
In the last round of Fotolia lowering our commission they wrote: "With this latest release, we're also revising our subscription plans to align with what's happening in the marketplace. As a result, prices and commissions have been adjusted accordingly".  I think this is exactly what they refer to. Photographers rushing to join a new site that offer a deal that is worse that what they (FT) offer, even after the commission cut.

Don't be naive. MSG is well known out there and I am sure all the major sites follow the discussions here, even if they do not post here. While people complain about "unfair treatment", "undervaluation of our work" and "microstock not worth it anymore", joining a site like PD may create the impression that those that complain about the recent commission cuts contradict themselves by joining a site like PD that offer even less. This confirms their argument that photographers are willing to sell their work for even less. I think we all know what will follow.  I am sure it is not a matter of "will they reduce our commission again", but rather "when will they reduce our commission again".

Envato / Re: PhotoDune by Envato
« on: July 15, 2011, 02:03 »
I am a contributor on AudioJungle and investigated VideoHive (both part of the Envato group) and I can also log into the PhotoDune site. However, if PhotoDune is anything like AudioJungle and VideoHive I will not get exited too soon.

Submission on those two sites are very laborious and very primitive compared to the competition. On AudioJungle it is required to submit both a WAV and MP3 file (other sites will automatically create a MP3 version from the WAV), and I must also submit a lower quality MP3 version with the AudioJungle watermarked on (other sites will automatically create a watermarked preview file). Similarly on VideoHive you must submit a thumbnail jpg image, the HD video clip and a lower resolution, watermarked version for preview. For all this trouble they sell your HD videos for an average of $5 and pay non-exclusive 25% commission. Same with AudioJungle - high rejection rates, ridiculously low prices and low commission.

No thank you. Unless they can radically deviate from this rip-off approach of their other sites I will give PhotoDune a miss.

123RF / Re: Review Times
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:59 »
Mine took 2 weeks. Yes, and prepare yourself for mass rejections. It is a known strategy of 123RF to clear the cue whenever they fall behind in their review of submissions.

General - Stock Video / Re: What fps sells best?
« on: May 10, 2011, 04:28 »
MotionJpeg is best suited for interlaced footage and PhotoJpeg for progressive footage. Since the Canon 5DmkII record footage as progressive the PhotoJpeg codec is better suited.

I am no expert on footage, but as I understand it, it is easier to convert footage from 29.97 (NTSC) frames to 25 (PAL), than the other way round. For this reason it is usually better to shoot at 29.97, unless you specifically shoot for the European market that use the PAL standard.

Albumo.com / Albumo rise from the dead
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:00 »
Some time ago I joined a site Buy Stock Sound to sell my sound effects. Now they have changed their name to Fantero and here is the interesting part: Albumo is now part of their network. Very surprising. I though they disappeared from the face of the earth. I still have bad memories from Albumo. Probably the worst site that I have ever contributed to and I remember all the effort it required to get my account closed.  Now they emerged from the dead. Wonder what is the source of the image that they have online? Here is the newsletter that I received:

Our main news is that the new brand name of our network is Fantero. We will work hard to make Fantero.com one of the best sites for your digital needs. Fantero.com is a positive, young company, constantly brimming with new ideas, and our goal is to make life easier for the online world by providing a one-stop shop for all your digital needs.

We are glad to inform you that site for stock photos Albumo.com is now a part of Fantero creative network. As new owners of Albumo.com we`ll do our best for promoting and improving this site.

Everybody who already has account on Albumo now can visit the site and find photos, withdraw earned money and submit new photos.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Crestock is so confusing...
« on: February 10, 2011, 00:49 »
The Crestock philosophy: The highest standard in the Microstock industry for which we reward you with the lowest royalty in the industry.

Please don't waste your time with Crestock. It is bad enough what IS and FT did with the lowering of our commission. Don't encourage this trend by supporting agencies that still pays 25c subscriptions.

Adobe Stock / Re: Is it just me
« on: January 29, 2011, 00:12 »
Currently I have no problem getting my nature, wildlife and travel images accepted. I think they are very lenient at the moment. At some point last year I also experienced I period of abnormal high rejections. On the other hand I don't know why I still submit to FT because very few new images sell. It is very frustrating to see 'n small group of old (I mean like four years old images) that keeps selling every day, while I know I have since uploaded much better images of the same subject.
