Alamy.com / Re: Alamy exclusive - Is there a filter?
« on: February 18, 2019, 11:07 »
I hope there will be an exclusive filter soon.
You can at least do your most recent 500 uploaded all at once by ticking the 'Newest 500 passed' in AIM. (Takes a while for the system to select them all. Make sure you don't untick anything else!)

Thanks! Alamy support also suggested this option. Oh well, still a lot have to be done one by one.

I was able to have them make everything into RF from RM, but the whole, don't forget to tick exclusive images, is kind of absurd. Lets say someone has 2,000 images and ten are not exclusive, now what? Go through one by one and change them?

Or maybe I could tell them, please make everything exclusive and I'll tick the 10 that aren't?  ;D

This will be the third time I'll need to got through every image and change something, because Alamy changed their mind about how they should be tagged. Not pleased.

I made everything exclusive (I'd been ticking the box since it became available, then did all the previous ones by batch.
Then I saw the bit about statues over 1/3rd of the image can't be marked exclusive, so I looked up 'Statue' in AIM, guessed the proportion by eyeballing, and just made that small group non-exclusive (I think one by one, but it was very few, so no hassle in my case).

I admire you for thinking ahead.

If all your images are exclusive, (by their definition, meaning no photos of old flat artwork, prints, book illustrations, etc,) you can ask their support to do it for you.

Otherwise, you can tick the button yourself by upload batches (one tick per batch).

Yes, all my images are exclusive by their definition, which comes in an email today. I emailed support, but the reply was not relevant to my question.

The following is a partial quote of what are considered exclusive:

Selling direct

Images can be sold through your own website or directly to customers and still be marked as Exclusive on Alamy.

POD sites

Images that are available via POD sites can be marked as exclusive as long as theyre not offered for additional licencing through the POD site.

My entire portfolio is exclusive to Alamy.

In the past, because I was not sure if prints/products sales would disqualify some, I only marked a part as exclusive.

Now Alamy has confirmed that prints/products are exempted. That's great!

Do I need to go through the entire portfolio to mark each photo as exclusive?

My hands and shoulders have already been severely damaged due to over-use.

Hope someone can tell me a smart way. Thanks.

Sometimes, my clips are sold higher than my asking price.

Is it an EL sale?

Your message made me want to check my Alamy account.

The good news is, I also made a few small new sales.

The strange thing is, the pages for sales and balance are not working.

« on: January 14, 2019, 22:08 »
I have a question.

Since you are a very productive video producer, this somewhat deviation to YouTube worries me a bit - does it mean that you are seeking a new direction? Like you and others said, it takes a lot of energy and efforts to make a good YouTube video. Your clips will have to be watched for over 4000 hours and by 1000 subscribers in order to be entitled to make advertising money. I could be wrong with these numbers, correct me if I am wrong.

Well, I haven't sold anything from SS for 1.5 months, which is a bit unusual. No sales from P5 in January.

I hope it's just because of the holidays and not a trend.

I had this kind of rejections once or twice, but never tried too hard to figure them out.

Most of my clips are at 30 or 29.97, which have always been accepted.

December is the  worst month is SS Ive evperienced since Feb 2014, which was the second month I was on the site.

SS sold 0 video clip for me in December even though I have made into over 1000 list.

Hope to have better luck in the new year.

Happy New Year!

I have used both, but stopped using Payoneer.

Payoneer claims that it charges no fee when you make an online purchase, not true. They charge something called cross-border fee. Since they are located in Berlize, there is no way that you can buy anything without having to pay the cross-border fee, plus the conversion fee.

« on: December 19, 2018, 20:49 »
Does anyone know if we can sell "RM exclusive" through Alamy, and prints and so on through FAA and by oneself?
Someone who asked that question privately was told 'no'.
However, that was before the current proposals. James West said on the most recent video that the details of exclusivity would be shared during the first quarter of next year.

Great to know! Thanks!

I rarely bothered to mark my photos as exclusive in Alamy. If I do it by hand one by one, it will take forever. I have asked if they can set all as exclusive, if I am still allowed to sell prints and products.

I must confess that I make far more selling prints and products myself than through Alamy.

A revolution against someone who is still paying the highest rates (but not so high anymore) and that is trying to invest in growth to get more end customers should find contributors considerate and not angry, offensive or insulting.
That's completely ignoring the fact that we already went from 60% to 50% to fund the US office. According to Alamy, that expansion went "far better than we expected", though most (of those who report) haven't seen any uptick in sales to the US. So most of us lost money to boost the earnings of a few (and, apparently, Alamy's bottom line). Despite them saying that expanding US operations at our expense surpassed expectations, we didn't get restored to 60%.

I agree. Their capital investment should come from their own pocket.

Perhaps we can ask Alamy to take a cut because we have to upgrade our gears.  ;)

« on: December 13, 2018, 16:39 »
Thank you so much for your help!

Done! :)

Just did mine yesterday so it is still fresh in my mind. When you go into the Tax Interview it gives you a list (country by country) of what number to use if you are not based in the USA. For example, here in the UK, you put in your National Insurance Number. Suggest you go back in and see what is listed for Canada and then use that. Hope that helps! Regards, David.

On a side note I also did my Adobe one yesterday and was impressed that the moment I hit Submit, I got an email back saying my form was validated :)

I just completed my tax interview.

Then I got an urgent message because I did not have a TIN so I am not eligible for tax exemption.

What is my TIN? Is it the same as Canadian SIN?

Thanks a lot!

General - Stock Video / Re: "Crossroads" on Shutterstock

Is it possible because Crossroads uses top expensive professional equipment? The clips were shot with Phantom Flex 4K and Red, from what I saw. That could affect rating I speculate.

Never sold anything under the old structure. My port is only 200. No uploading since the new commission was announced. Sold two in the last three months. Beginner's luck?

I had a couple of sales which were below my asking prices. I also had another sale which is above my asking price.

Not sure if I am in the testing group.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Buyer's Location
« on: August 22, 2018, 22:50 »
Sue, I agree.

I also found myself in different locations. So the assumption is, if the buyer is shown as from New York, NY, the actual location may not be. Am I correct?

Thanks!

« on: August 22, 2018, 14:20 »
When a print is sold at Fine Art America, it shows where the order was made.

I wonder if it means the buyer's actual location (through registration), or just the IP address from the computer or digital device where the purchase is made.

Anybody knows?
