Yes, you get a notification from Paypal AND a duplicate of the email that is sent to the client with a thumbnail of the image and its reference number, size etc

PS we now have our own Symbiostock forum at http://www.symbiostock.org/

« on: September 07, 2013, 07:51 »
Hi Russell - Justhost told me that even if I had had their pro-backup they would not have backed up the files any differently!

I now download to external hard drive (or rather two external hard drives so I can keep one out of the house) .  I plan then to duplicate the download and use Filezilla to just download changed/new/updated files
The files in symbiostock_rf I will not download (to save on time and bandwidth, but will copy from my file on computer to the backup area and rename them with their numbers as per symbiostock files.
The MySql database I download as per Mark's tutorial - http://www.picture5479.com/backing-bluehost/

Hello everyone. Here's a VERY IMPORTANT initial update on the base theme.

First, a WARNING: Do not install this unless you are ready for the quirks of a major overhaul, and a few adjustments on your end.
<snip>

At first glance looks good - works well on my 10" tablet and looks the same on that as on laptop

Many of us us the plug-in "UK Cookie Consent" as this is required by EU law - or a cookie consent anyway and this overlays the top of the page and therefore the search bar until you accept it

I had a quick play on test site at http://tulip.kerioak.com/   - would need more colour editing on my part to get text to show properly but that can be done when I have more time.

Les

Yes, that would work, but you are using your personal home bandwidth three times - once to upload, once to download in the new numbering plan, once to upload to Google drive. I am still investigating ways to go from the webserver to Google drive without having to pay for a service to do that! There is a service called Otixo that I'm looking at now!

Steve

What if, instead of uploading and downloading the full sized images you uploaded, processed,, made a note of the numbers, then copied the files withhin your harddrive and renumbered them. Then you would save time and bandwith by just backingnup the rest of the site Iif you were doing it to home harddrives?

I missed this one when it was posted - maybe we should all add it to our signature links as it is sensible and has lots of useful links attached

I think it would need to be a tailor made plug-in otherwise it would only zoom on the watermarked image, not the original sized one

Thank you for your reply, definitely something to consider once everything starts paying its own way

Also: I read a lot about people spending money for wordpress backup solutions...I wonder if this is a better solution and I am missing something or if they are aware that backends like cPanel offer a free and complete backup module in most cases...

A lot of the backup threads were due, I think, to my problems with lack of backup from host - they do not do complete backup in cPanel

The link at the bottom of leo's first post explains the problem and gives you code to add to the bottom of your htaccess file (in root folder).

Or
the link at the bottom of Leo's post gave an explanation if you understand it.  I don't have a clue what it means or which code is applicable and so it is probably safer not to touch anything ?

You are welcome Alessandro, pleased I could help.

Hi Amos, thanks for joining in

I looked at lots of options, including yours over the last few days and eventually settled on backing up to external hard drives via ftp download so I can see exactly what I have and replace, in future, individual files as required and if anything goes wrong it is now totally down to me and I am not relying on anyone else

Does blogvault provide the dropbox space or is that an extra cost?
Can you see and restore individual files?
30 days is not long, are files automatically deleted after this time or can it be extended?
No size is given for the standard plans, even with the $99 a month for 50Gb I think this could soon be filled with larger sites ?

For Leo's plug in - have you activated the Related Posts Taxonomy plug-in ?

Why are you deleting images and uploading them again? If file is missing from symbiostock_rf, have a look at thumbnail name, for example "1088-minipic.jpg". Then use ftp to upload big file to symbiostock_rf folder. After uploading (or before, if you like), change its name to 1088.jpg and that's all.

Thanks for the tip.
I guess that would work also if one wants to upload an improved image version without the trouble to go through the "Process" procedure.

Yes, and after that you can go to Bulk Actions->Reprocess, to make improvements visible in thumbnail and preview.

Unfortunately (for me) this does not work, the thumbnail and watermarked version were still present, I uploaded main image again, adjusted number, did reprocess via bulk edit but nothing changed so it looks as if there is no short cut

Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /h......................//rf-custom-post-functions.php on line 163

I turned off bad behaviour as it prevented pp payments.

I notice that wordfence is currently throttling a user though (again) as they are exceeding the maximum global requests permitted -would this be a similar thing?

91
I suspect you are using syxtra similar images rather than Leo's ? Plrang has instructions on his site for the syxtra one, help for Leo's is in this thread.

« on: September 06, 2013, 00:59 »
Why?

I am probably the wrong person to reply as I was the one that originally requested other currencies  so we could use our own,  thus not having to pay an exchange fee on overseas transactions.  The amount gets shown to customer before they pay

The original symbiostock thread is still on Alamy - try not to get that one deleted  ;)

I had just worked that out (didn't work though I don't think when I tried it a few minutes ago) .  Most of my files - 1,102 disappeared during the JH downtime at the beginning of August but I did not realise as they still showed up.  That was the cause of the "white" writing and inability to edit images I had been asking about.   Unfortunately I have been deleted most of the missing images as they were only thumbnails and watermarked images anyway.

Symbiostock - General / Re: Backing up
« on: September 05, 2013, 11:42 »
that was going to be more complicated than I thought, not just a case of replacing the files - probably because other things have changed since they "disappeared".  I just wish I had realised earlier but because the thumbails and watermarked previews were still there I had no reason to suspect exactly what was wrong.

Symbiostock - General / Re: Symbiostock script - VAT, TAX question

As I am unlikely (unfortunately) to reach 79,000 this year or next year there is no requirement yet, as I understand the UK  site to register for VAT

I am an idiot!

I have just realised what I could (probably have done) instead of reuploading and seo'ing etc all the images.  If I could have worked out their numbers I could have uploaded them straight to symbiostock_rf then edited the numbers as the rest of the data was still intact  :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

Wow!   I am having problems keeping to my target of 50 a day

Me too. Im lucky if i get 10 a day done.

Mine are not new ones though but re-uploads.  Unfortunately most of them do not have descriptions as I did not need them so it seems to be hard going with yeost as well
