Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock down - again ?!?
« on: June 12, 2013, 07:32 »
I personally find new images on Shutterstock go nowhere fast. In my experience with vectors FT, DP and 123RF  my new images start getting sells faster. In fact Shutterstock makes just slightly more then most of my sites. I'm always so shocked their ranking is so high. I'm often wonder if the results for vectors and photos would be much different. Maybe the Earnings Rating chart should have  photos and vectors split. I think the vector chart would see a very different result.
Because for the majority they are the top seller. You and a few others got hit hard, but for many its still good business. My second earner is FT and thats 1/6th of what I do at SS. My 3rd earner is 123 at the moment, but thats 1/10th of SS earnings.

I'm sorry Ron I think you may have misunderstood me and run off the track with my point  :)  My FT, DP and 123rf have grown very well and SS went down slightly. Making the difference between site earnings for me personally much closer. I'm a lvl 5 on 123rf if I did indeed make 10 times what I make on 123rf on SS well then....that would be crazy town awesome.  I was not "hit hard" by anything. Microstock is still a very good business for me as a whole.   :) My point was and still is....I think photos and vectors would see some very different results on the Earnings Chart :)

I'll say it again... 123RF is top tier.   They'll officially be one of the "Big 4" in four to six months.

I very much agree with you!

I've been with them for more then 6 years and this year I've had a couple BME and this month I made BME on the 19th. I feel 123rf is a fantastic site!

My review times on IS are about 12hr-36hrs far better then the 12-14 days I have to wait on SS.

12-36 hour wait time suggests you are exclusive....that's my wait time and I'm exclusive (for another week).

I'll never go exclusive anywhere ...ever...(unless someone pays me 7 or 8 figures :) ) I do vectors maybe that has something to do with it.

I upload weekly batches and see very good returns and bumps.

I also feel they have an easy uploading process with fast review times with high approval rates. A Solid middle tier earner for me.

Thanks a lot. Although this constant analyzing tend to be quite a costly affair for many of us. ::)

Agreed......and maybe his title should be investor success?

Yes. shareholders my friend. Shareholders. Nothing else matters.

Yes new shareholders with small ports that do not generate much income seem to be the happiest about these new search changes.  Never mind the many people who used to believe in SS.  These are the same people who were instrumental in SS's success. I am talking about the real people who used their own funds to buy tens of thousands of camera & studio equipment, not to mention software, props ect. so that they could work hard year after year to provide SS with quality content.

Over the years they worked hard to produce images and vectors that would reach the top50 so that they could feed their family.  They made a good income because they worked hard for years and their families depend on that hard won income to eat and pay their mortgages/rent.

Now SS turns their back on the very people who assured success for those working for SS. We made it possible for SS's employees to enjoy good incomes and perks such as gym memberships, massages, free breakfasts, free drinks and weekly pizza parties.

Maybe they should come to breakfast, lunch and dinner at some of the houses they are robbing of shelter and food so that they can reduce cost of sale and bring up RPI sold.

Wow that is the best post I have ever seen anywhere! I'm sharing this with every graphic artist I know! thank you! I printed this post out and it is now on my studio wall. thank you again!

I really don't have any best sellers on SS in recent years.......Now in the last year on FT  I have files that have sold hundreds of times each pushing ahead from the pack in my port. Oddly this does not happen any longer for me on SS.

SS is like rolling dice for me now.

66
So far today I'm making more on Deposit then SS.....so for that I'm very thankful.

67
BS is my lowest earner.

Congratulations on getting your batch approved Erik...now you can start getting 0.186 / 0.216 commissions for your hard work ;)

The bulk of my sales are between L and XXLMH. I get some Subs but more then half are larger sizes. I'm happy with 123RF :)

Hey Scott I think a more believable meaningful response needs to be created. I understand you may not be in the immediate position to create that response today.

Hi guys,

When people come to the forums, they're usually commenting about a group of images that took much longer than normal (i.e., people rarely come to the forums to say "my review was fast and efficient").  Therefore, it builds a notion that everyone is experiencing the same thing or that the worst-case-scenario is the mainstream scenario, which isn't the case.  Of course that still matters to us greatly, since everyone should be getting fast and efficient service.

Submission volume has been high across all of our queues. There are two queues that have -- very admittedly -- spiked for us lately: one is our vector queue; the other is our queue of batches of images that have issues (this secondary track).  Hence, we've come out with various policy communications to make sure that the images coming to us meet our standards and are less likely to be problematic.  For example, blog posts on marking illustrations accurately, our editorial credential policy, standardized releases, property releases for illustrations, etc..., all of which are designed to prevent problematic submissions from happening in the first place.

Its probably obvious, but every contributor has an interest in other contributors providing frictionless submissions, because the most time-intensive submissions slow things down for everyone.   As with the Contributor Success Guide and our numerous blog posts, our goal is to increasingly invest in internationalized educational material, contributor tools and policy simplifications (as well as our internal processes) to reduce turnarounds for everybody.

Best,

Scott

Thanks for the fast response :)

"Therefore, it builds a notion that everyone is experiencing the same thing or that the worst-case-scenario is the mainstream scenario, which isn't the case"

So why does my wife who is a top tier vector artist have the same problems on her account :) Maybe lighting striking in the same house hold ?

I have an interesting question scott.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Answer for long reviews
« on: April 21, 2013, 15:46 »
intresting Scott may I ask why this image below with these ref images has taken more then 10 days now?

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=470031976398618&set=a.310515332350284.71655.310236269044857&type=1&theater

Or this image with ref?

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=470777679657381&set=a.310515332350284.71655.310236269044857&type=1&theater

These reasons below do not apply in my case....I will not speculate about the problems SS may have .....so I must ask what is really happening at SS?

Incorrectly labeled images.  Blog post here.
Event images lacking credentials (i.e., those taken on private property, etc...).  Blog post here.
Images with problematic model or property releases. Greater release support and numerous languages here and refined policies here.
Images with more complex trademark or copyright determinations
"Spam"-type submissions where the commercial value is unclear (large submissions of abstract backgrounds, etc...)

123RF / 100% rejetcions on 123rf now!?
« on: April 18, 2013, 23:08 »
I just got a 100% rejected batch...is there a new criteria, process or standard for vector art now?

They must be just dumb....this hurts them as well. They make less we make less = real dumb FT.....no one wins   :o  I guess we have to see if this leads to a higher volume of sales.
