the EL license on this partner site price is not $22, it's more like $6-7, yes this is the answer i got from them when questioned. it's the lowest EL price among all the sites i'm submitting to. we should together do something about it.

No one pay's for models.
are you kidding? i insist to pay my model even if they want TFCD!

I pay my models AND give them a cd of all images from the session, downsized to 1200 pixels on the long side. It's large enough to make a decent sized print.
I really don't have a problem with my models posting images to facebook. No legitimate buyer is going to lift them from facebook, and so far the models aren't really interested in posting the stock concept stuff anyway. They mostly just post the portraits.
The only prohibition I place on their using them is that they can't sell them or post them for free download on a stock site, deviantart, flikr etc. If you won't let them post the pictures anywhere online then you have not given them any value at all for their time.
If you aren't paying your models, and their only compensation is the photos, then they should be able to use them how they want, short of redistributing them themselves.
Lisa, I'm 23 y old and I have around 130 photos in my portfolio, only way for me to pay a model is to ask mom and dad to give me the money All of my models are my friends and family and I'm trying to be fair to them as much as I can
friends and family seems to be GREAT idea at first, but soon you will realize that it's the WORST idea for shooting stock, especially if the photos start to appear everywhere like billboard, tv, mag, ad etc and you are not paying them.

just want to ask you guys who gain "quite a lot" from DP, what value we talking about here? so far this month (23/aug) i have made more than $750 from DT, and DP only $70, DP is no way near DT.

There's plenty of blind photogs in the world..........just sayin'. My daughter, who is blind, has a handful of RM photos on Alamy.
I really feel very sorry for you when I read this, it must be hard to raise a blind child. how does she take a picture?

Certainly not more than 100,- .If I spend more I don't put it on microstock but even for macro I would be very cautious to spend a 4-digit-sum. I hope and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work out for you some people need to learn it the hard way!
i hate to disappoint you, but as of today i have fully recovered my expenses of $1085 for that shoot, after 4 months. yet i still cannot believe that you hoped that this doesn't work out for me, how dark is your heart?

are you saying that Andresr didnt upload his "flight crew on a plane" series on DT?
I'm saying there are material ... differences ... between the two ... that would make one more desirable to a buyer looking for something ... particular.
sure, i have no doubts that some buyers will search within one or few contributors portfolios for the uniqueness. but just some, not all, let's say that i'm one of them, i just did one search and had no success to achieve the following tasks as i never buy anything from IS and dont do a lot search there either: 1. in search result only showing "exclusive" images. 2. in search result only showing sjlocke's images.

« on: May 09, 2012, 15:57 »
then what? do I need to open an IS account now? or buy it straight from DT account where the similar high quality image is there for cheaper?
Point being there is no "similar" image on DT. Cheaper or not.
are you saying that Andresr didnt upload his "flight crew on a plane" series on DT?

Ok, say I have an account at Dreamstime. I need a picture of flight crew on a plane. There is nothing usable in the search ( aside from one really over the top series ). Now what do I do? Look somewhere else. So I look on iStock and find a more "realistic" series from some guy named sjlocke. I don't need another account, but dang, I want that one image and it isn't available elsewhere. So I open an account ...
eta: I see that other recent series is also on IS, and from Andre... Sorry!
then what? do I need to open an IS account now? or buy it straight from DT account where the similar high quality image is there for cheaper?

Frankly, the only way I could see this becoming a significant issue for the agencies would be if he became yet another agency, taking in all the files that all the others have. If he did that, then he could probably get into the mid or upper tiers quite quickly. but he would have the problems of inspections, storage space and bandwidth, accounting, etc. etc.
Even if he did that, it would still be a one-off Yuri thing, not the start of a new movement with everyone going to make their own agency.
have to agree with this one. and i don't think inspections, storage and accounting etc are the real problems to yuri, it's just not the business direction he's taken right now. maybe now is the time for Andres or a few world's top contributors to form an agency.

I've visited top 3 stock photographer teams in Beijing(Yuri is a team as well, isn't he), they are all in traditional world, while one of them joined microstock via iStockPhoto Agency Collection.
The traditional world is not as transparent as micro, although the trend of micro is going up, the big money still lies in traditional world.
name?

... agencies take far too much in commission and therefore we would hope for a fairer distribution of our images' earnings. If Yuri is successful in this venture then it may represent one small step in the right direction....
this will make much more sense if Yuri's new site accepts other contributors and offers "fair" commissions. the bottom line is that selling images at micro price through agencies whom takes 70%-85% commission is not sustainable for a proper BUSINESS, Ron Chapple realized it, so did Yuri.

Lot's of interest that is for sure. We just had over 1000 visitors in one hour and about 200+ visitors constantly on the site. Small numbers for big stock agencies, but it's still pretty nice.
had first sale yet?

curious how "everything" happened in the last 48h..
1 - Yuri website/agency "leaked out" and oppened before time 2 - iStock raised exclusives pricing 3 - SS has a new logo
all seems good so far got feeling that not only the logo changes at SS

Thanks lisafx!
In no way does my book glamorize this business (unlike a few of the glossy ones on Amazon!) I just explain how to do it, how to make yourself efficient, and cover things that people can find out if they read forums long enough (like faving on 123RF), but they are missing income if they don't do it. I learned a lot on this forum in particular, but it can be a slow and painful process.
Steve
does anyone actually believe that stock photography is a way of getting rich quick? i hope that your book covers what it really takes to become a fairly successful stock photographer in today's market.
