Pixmac / Re: Pixmac reaches 1,000,000 images?!
« on: October 26, 2008, 21:16 »
What are prices compared to FT?  And commissions?

As I posted above, the site seems to sell per image sales that range from 1 to 15 credits.

But I have no idea what the commissions are.

Also, I have checked a few of the larger contributors and they haven't sold much of anything yet.  Out of the three contributors that I checked, there was only 1 sale among them.

If I understand correctly, we are paid what we normally would get paid from Fotolia. Reference the earlier posts on page one. The answers from Pixmac.
[/qoute] Hello,
Pixmac is a new microstock agency. Beside our own collection, we also feature on our website the Fotolia collection because we have an affiliation and are Fotolias reseller. This is the reason you see your photos on our website, we are another distributing channel. We have no hires of Fotolias pictures - you will see all your downloads as well as your commission in your Fotolia account. In case there is any download of pictures you have uploaded on Fotolia, you still will get the same comission and you will be payed by Fotolia,  like you would be by downloads through Fotolia directly.

Yashica MG-1 (age 11)
Various 110 and Disc cameras
Rebel G
Digital Rebel
Powershot S5IS
Wondering when we get a full frame Rebel. But will end up going to a 50d or 5d mk2 soon. I want more lenses first.

I did notice in my wife's Woman's World Magazine that credits are given on each page where a stock photo is used. I haev seen credits from SS, IS  and DT. Also credits from some of the Macro sites. They even give credits to the designers and make up people. Even food makeup people. The credits aren't realy connected to the pics but it would be easy to find them.

New 50D--15.3 mp. Maybe an upgrade to the 5d will come soon too. It has actually been around for a long time compared to the 30d or 40d. It seems to take longer to shop for a camera than for them to produce new ones now a days.

What about commissions on the photos? Or pay plus commission.? Would this be more work than it's worth?

I would also go to a store and pick one up.  It has to be somewhat comfortable. Unless you plan on doing everything off a tripod.

Adobe Stock / Re: Rejections, rejections, rejections...
« on: June 29, 2008, 22:32 »
Haven't had a problem. 8 of 8 accepted on last try. 38 of 38 on try before that. Each attempt with the same subject.  If you do not like the rejections try contacting support for an answer.  If you don't like the answers you can always leave the site and go to another. This did give me an idea for some subjects. Boots and towels.

So there are some forums to go to that the level of censorship is low or void.  Those are the areas that should be used then. If you don't like a forum don't use it. Nothing catches my eye quicker than going to a forum on a stock site and seeing that the last post was made 2 or 3 months ago or even longer. If the forums are used by both buyer and seller, the buyers may be turned off by the lack of activity by the sellers.  Bottom line,,if you don't like a sites business practices,, don't support their efforts. Just my opinion.

Found out about ShutterStock through it's ad in Popular Photography magazine.

Credit conversion

I'm sorry! You have not reached the minimum number of 50 credits to cash out yet.

To learn more about cashing out credits please review the links below.

How will I be compensated if my files are purchased?

From the Fotolia site.   Never had to cash out at 50 before.

Had 2 on SS but I have a small portfolio. One isolation and one that is not. None in awhile though.

Some people will always believe that if it's on the internet it is free for the taking.  Especially when sites like this do nothing to prevent such theft. And in fact tell you flat out they are not responsible for the content of the website. I am sure photobucket is being kept busy with complaints though and appears to be taking care of the offenders if the original owner steps up and complains.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia or IStock?
« on: March 04, 2008, 23:06 »
Many more rejected photos at IS but many more of the accepted photos sell. Even had one rejected at Fotolia for cropping and is a flamer at IS. Every site will be differant. sometimes it seems it just matters who reviews them. Just do both.  IS has strict upload limits also. Usually reviewed in a week or so. Good Luck.  8)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: image stolen Flickr and sold on Istock !
« on: February 10, 2008, 23:11 »
There is an Article in Feb. Pop Photo magazine on just this subject. It is no secret that photos are stolen from Flickr.  If they do nothing to protect you, why stay with them? If you live in a bad neighborhood and get robbed because you left your door unlocked is it not your own fault? Protect yourself. There must be a better option than flickr. Clearly not Istock or any other sites fault if images get stolen and used by someone else.

I would think that if the "pros" are having trouble competing with the amateurs then maybe it's time the "pros" to step it up a bit and show us why they are considered pros.  Competition is part of every business. And as in every business there will be someone willing to get paid less to get work. I don't think this writer's plight has anything to do with micro stock photography. He seems to have a decent job writing for a popular show. Getting paid well for something he loves doing. His video didn't impress me. He doesn't sound very professional. You would think a writer could find a better way to get his point across to the public. Just my opinion. Take it for what it is.

Would that only work if the white object is a true white? What would be a good subject for this.

Off Topic / Re: Mail scam
« on: November 12, 2007, 23:30 »
Sometimes these scam letters get pretty personal. I received one for a supposed dead uncle who was a millionaire. Problem was that the name was of a real person who was very wealthy when he died.  Had the same last name as I do also. But I happened to know that the guy wasn't related and that his kids received his estate, and run his company to this day. There are always people who believe money will fall in their lap.  Some of these scams actually will get you money for a little while until the checks come back bad a month of two down the road. Then you are got holding the bag and possibly looking at prison.  Always remember if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. It is fun reading them sometimes. Especially when they try to use your own name to entice you.

The first week they were out here in Wisconsin(USA),they were selling faster than they could stock them, they were even selling the floor models. Now everyone seems to have them back in stock.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: On a $1200 Budget, what would you get?
« on: October 07, 2007, 10:36 »
Watch the ads you might be able to get a mem card even cheaper. I bought the SunPak Platinum Plus 7500 Pro from Best Buy. It is very sturdy. But very heavy also. It works great indoors and out. It's heavy to carry around though. I think it was about 100 bucks but I got it cheap because my son was working there at the time. If you know someone that works there they have good emplyee discounts. Not much on the cameras but other items have good ones. Lenses are over priced at Best Buy. Cameras seem to be competively priced. I would also invest in some kind of shutter release. They are worth the money. Have fun with the new camera.

Dreamstime.com / Re: newest rejection reason at DT
« on: September 06, 2007, 21:50 »
:D  I don't think you will find any more trademarks/logos than in the world of sports.  The Adidas stripes makes perfect sense, DT must reject any kind of detailing on shoes.

If I have this much trouble with a simple soccer photo, I doubt I'll be submitting many hockey portraits this winter either - likely 75% of the kids and equpment are covered with some kind of logo.
Bottoms of the shoes may be trademarked also.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 30D on ebay
« on: September 02, 2007, 20:47 »
A local store (Best Buy) carries it for  $1499 with the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. But as said previous I'm sure it will come down in price once the 40d is out.
I would also look for a dealer with better feedback on ebay.
