General - Stock Video / Re: 720p Progressive only question?
« on: April 03, 2013, 05:38 »
Hi sharpshot,

Thank you for your reply.
To be honest I don't like a 15% commission on IS.
But how it's possible that they accepted some of my video(which was compressed the same way the others). From what I found on ffmpeg documentation it should be progressive (non-interlaced) by default.

General - Stock Video / 720p Progressive only question?
« on: April 02, 2013, 13:56 »
Hi  all,

I just got a rejection at istockphoto:

"The footage has been rendered as a 1280 x 720 Motion JPEG. However, it is important for you to know that 720 HD is a Progressive Only format.

Please de-interlace and re-render as a 720p file, then compress as a Photo JPEG before resubmitting for inspection."

Here is my pipeline:

1) image sequence in *.tga from Maya
2) ffmpeg for copressing into *.mov on linux (it works for all other agencies but IS):

ffmpeg -r 30 -i sequence.%d.tga -vcodec mjpeg -qmax 1 -qmin 1 final_animation.mov

I would be happy if some one could help me on it.

thank you in advance

P.S. but what is interesting that's IS has accepted some of my videos from the same batch.

I've just found that my Bigstockphoto balance has decreased at 1.50$. And in my "Commissions and Payments Summary" I've got an "Adjustments:    $-1.50" record.
Did someone get the same experience ?

I would only make a collage if they could be sold for more.  I know they might one day reach a higher level but I'm afraid that doesn't make me want to sell several images as one when they're sold separately on other sites.  And they're always going to be available at full size for subs commissions.  That's just not on.

I also wonder what happens to the buyers that don't want a collage and aren't good with photoshop?

I absolutely agree with you. In my case I can't afford to make one collage with all my good sellers and make them available for subs.

I made a test and uploaded some of mine good sellers to Dreamstime. But Unfortunately they all have been rejected with the reason "Please, combine all images from this series in a collage as one file and resubmit. This is not only valid for the currently refused images, but for all images (pending or yet to be uploaded) of this series which you plan to add to your portfolio."

And to be honest I can't combine them in a collage. In my personal experience nothing has changed in a "Similar Policy". It's sad because I like Dreamstime.

Reading this thread really made me chuckle. Linux has come a LONG way.

Software for Images:

Darktable - Raw developer / database management. More powerful than Lightroom at the moment if you're using the current development version. This is probably the biggest reason to consider switching. In 3 years it has had MASSIVE development at highly regular intervals and features requested actually get put in. Imagine that! I've had one included that I requested

Gimp - 2.9+ has 16 bit support. I hate recommending it since it's a project with a bad reputation for ..... staying alive :/ Darktable really picks up the slack in so many ways though.

Geeqie Image Viewer - the fastest RAW file viewer you'll ever experience, and by fast, I mean 100% view loads in less than a second fast. I love it to death for reviewing a shoot. Beats the snot out of Adobe Bridge's 100% CROPPED eyedropper view tool, LOL. I used to capture direct to my laptop and view 100% snapshots using it.

RawTherapee - Raw file developer, a close second to Darktable. I kinda hate the interface.

Video:

Lightworks - a real true blue professional NLE is hitting Ubuntu this year. You can now cut you're super high res Red Epic footage on the same system you composite with

Kdenlive - waaay behind lightworks, but to be honest, the only real alternative that actually works well. It's just not a very heavily worked on project.

All the major compositing programs work on linux.

Hi cardmaverick,

Thank you very much for you reply. You save my day to be honest.
I've just installed Kdenlive and it looks fine.
To be honest, when I moved to Fedora 17 from Windows 7 I felt that I do not need Windows any more. I'm mostly working in Maya(3d) + Gimp and fortunately I do not need to work with RAW files (maybe EXR only).

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi all,

On windows I'm using the mpeg streamclip. I was wondering what software is the best on linux (similar to mpeg streamclip).
I'm working on Fedora 17 + Maya + GIMP

thanks in advance

hi oliverjw,

At the beginning I did upload all my images to many agencies. But now I understand it's not worth it (but it's different for all). And now I'm concentrating only on SS,IS(GoogleDrive deal a big pain for all contributors),FT,BS,DT,CS. I'm doing only 3d images

« on: January 25, 2013, 04:01 »
Hi crazychristina,

From my personal experience in 3d. I would suggest you uploading to SS, DT(I like them, but only they don't like similar images), FT, BS, CS and Alamy. I've got some stuff on IS as well, but my acceptance rate is something about 42%. And I've just started with FAA recently. Almost 99% of my port are 3d renders.

P.S. The only sad thing is that the more I'm working for the Microstock the more I understand that's the simpler the concept the better it's going to be selling overall.(Especially for 3d in my case)

Thank you CD123 for your support.
To be honest I'm still looking for some new agency but now it's become to difficult. And I'm just start working with the FAA(but my port there is so small).

I think you are right. After all problems with royalty cuts and images deactivation issue. I've decided to close my 123rf account.

Don't think you should be holding your breath.

Honestly speaking it's a difficult time for all contributors wright now I think. 123rf cut commission for the contributors, IS+Getty+Google Drive deal. I'm trying not to make a mistake which could cost me a loss of income for the future.

CD123

Totally with you on that, but 123RF will not back out of this move easily.

To be honest, I didn't expect this behavior from 123rf. WOW....

Here is they answer for my request that my images are still available in 123rf search and I even can download them, and possibly not only me.

Hi there,

Thank you for your email.

Since you mentioned that the images you removed are not in your upload history anymore, it means that the images are technically not available for download anymore.
However, if the images you removed from your upload history are still showing in your portfolio, kindly provide us with the image filenames and we will have our technical team
to have them removed from our end.

And here is my answer:

Dear Frank,

I'm sorry but I have no information in my "history uploads" now (about my deactivated images). All of my deactivated images should be deleted if they are not in my portfolio. Am I right?

But here are some examples of my images still available in search and even I can download them :( (but they are not in my portfolio)

and many more.

And if I understand you correctly. Should I need to provide you all of those images numbers which I deactivated recently  by using 123rf built-in an official option for deactivation images?

I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi tab62,
I absolutely agree with you. But I've decided to do it in a 2 step process. First of all I deactivated more than a half of my portfolio. Than I'll wait for a month, and if nothing change I'll delete my port completely.

CD123
on: Today at 14:09
Not sure I follow your reasoning. Do you think after deleting your best sellers that there will be any chance of things changing for the positive for you?

The reason for me was if they might decide to change a bit commission for the contributors in a near future(for a bit better of course). I would reconsider my decision. I'll keep my account and some images on 123rf for a month and than if nothing changes I'll close my account.

And here is an official reply from 123rf (for my question about why my deactivated images are still available for sale):

Hi there,

Thank you for your email.

It may have been a technical glitch on our website that may have caused the image to be available again after you removed them.
However before we can conclude that, may we know how did you have them removed? Did you removed them from your upload history?

We understand that this might be troublesome for you, but if it is possible for you to have them removed again? It may actually take about
3 to 5 days for the images to be completely removed from your portfolio but they will be no longer be available for download immediately when you have them removed.

Looking forward for your reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Frank
Best regards, always!

I love 123Rf! I enjoy the upload bumps which are rare on other sites now days. I've been with them for 6 years and have grown each year.

Recently(last week), I've decided to deactivate more than a half of my port at the 123rf.(I'm a level 2 contributor since big cut). And when I've deactivated my images it was fine they've gone for about a week. But today I've just checked and my images become available again  >:(.

I would be happy to hearing some explanation about deactivation images process from 123rf administration here on forum.

Mine stopped on 5th as well.
But after reading all recent stuff about Getty(IS and Thinkstockphoto)+Google Drive. I could guess that they might be in a hurry trying to add some more images from Thinkstockphoto to the Google Drive deal (backdated).

The big problem in my case that's I got more sales but almost 40% less money which is not acceptable. (I'm level 2 after cut)
I deactivated more than half of my portfolio.(yesterday and today)
It's just sad.

for this moth I have 40 sales for 15.36$ (to compare for the December 2012 I had 45 sales for 29.17$). I'm level 2 unfortunately  :(

It's so bad. I'm thinking of deleting my port from 123rf
